Pacific Rim Uprising will run shorter than the original film, about 12 minutes shorter to be exact. Collider brings us the info that the sequel to the robot vs. kaiju franchise clocks in at about 2 hours in length. Director and co-writer Steven D. DeKnight shares his reasoning on why two hours is the sweet spot in the quote below:
“It’s resting right around two hours. I always shoot for two hours. If I was doing Lawrence of Arabia it would be a little longer, but otherwise I think the two-hour mark—this is just for me as somebody that loves movies and watches movies, two hours is always right around the sweet spot. If it’s much less than two hours then I start to get a little suspicious, if it’s much more longer sometimes a movie will support that but sometimes you just get a little worn out.

Director Tomas Alfredson helmed a pair of outstanding films, the gripping ground-breaking Swedish vampire film Let The Right One In, and Tailor, Tinker, Soldier, Spy, a moody, first-rate film adaptation of John LeCarre’s brainy bestselling spy novel. So one has to wonder what on earth happened with his latest film The Snowman, a crime thriller that boasts a cast including Michael Fassbender, Charlotte Gainsbourg, J.K. Simmons, Toby Jones, Val Kilmer, and Chloe Sevigny. The Snowman is not merely bad, it is outright awful. Reportedly, even the director thinks the film is bad, expressing frustration the conditions under which it was made.

The third time will not be the charm for Olivier Assayas and Kristen Stewart, at least not yet. The director is taking a break from working with the American actress in order to reunite with his former muse, Juliette Binoche. Variety confirms Assayas and Binoche are teaming up for the comedy “E-book,” which will co-star Guillaume Canet, Vincent Macaigne, Christa Theret, and Pascal Gregory.

The plot specifics for “E-book” are not being disclosed at this time, though Assayas has confirmed it will be a “full blown comedy” set in the Parisian publishing world.

"In The Third Man, there's no one getting kicked in the face."
Director David Leitch isn't saying the classic post-war thriller suffers from lacking a critical face-kicking element – but let's just say his new movie takes full advantage of that missed opportunity. Set in East and West Germany in the winter of 1989 – the moment in which the Berlin Wall finally came down – Atomic Blonde sounds on paper like a John le Carré novel, pitting weary spies against each in pursuit of a list that could leave them all exposed. For the first time ever, the 2017 Primetime Emmys will hand out an award for Outstanding Music Supervision, acknowledging the creative contributions made by the music supervisors on TV series. For a while, we wondered if Chris Pine would ever be able to escape the shadow of Captain Kirk. Before he starred in J.J. Abrams’ first “Star Trek” film, Pine was mostly known for tween fare like Lindsay Lohan vehicle “Just My Luck” or “The Princess Diaries 2.” Pine proved to be perfect casting in the role that was created by William Shatner, but subsequent starring vehicles didn’t often work: for every “Unstoppable,” there was a “This Means War,” or a “Rise Of The Guardians,” or a “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” or a “Horrible Bosses 2.”

Why one of Hollywood’s greatest living directors will keep tinkering with his franchises until the day he dies.
This past week, director Ridley Scott let slip two updates during interviews that had more than a few cinephiles clutching at their chests. First, Scott confessed that he had no plans to shut down the Alien franchise now that Alien: Covenant is on its way, noting that he could easily crank out one Alien film a year for the next six years. Later, Scott admitted that he was hard at work on a sequel to Gladiator, noting that he even had an idea on how to bring Russell Crowe’s Maximus back from the dead. For Ridley Scott fans around the world, this news was met with anything from confusion to horror. Why would one of Hollywood’s greatest living directors keep messing with his legacy?

The image, which depicts a lone girl – assuming this is the returning Dallas Bryce Howard as Claire Dearing as a child – standing with her back to camera in a museum surrounded by the skeletal forms of dinosaurs. The picture has an unnerving ambience in its structure which keeps fans of the Jurassic franchise guessing at its yet unveiled plot. Could this image also reveal what we can expect from the plot? We are thinking some kind of flashback sequence may just be on the cards, just speculation of course but tell us what you think.

Director M. Night Shyamalan wants to jump on board the Stranger Things creative train and direct an episode of season two. I'd actually be ok with Shyamalan directing a Stranger Things episode, I really liked his last movie, The Visit, and his upcoming thriller Split looks great as well.
There's actually a good chance that Shyamalan could direct an episode as he has already worked with the Duffer Brothers. They were writers on his series Wayward Pines. That was their first real gig. So with Shyamalan giving them their big break, the least they could do is let him direct an episode.
In an interview with Digital Spy, the filmmaker said:
"My boys who do Stranger Things, they did Wayward Pines for me. They were round my house and I was like, 'Well, you can hire me back guys!'"
It'd be interesting to see if the Duffers ask him to direct an episode.

Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" made history at the 74th Annual Golden Globes winning all 7 nominations including Best Picture Musical/Comedy! The film won Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), Actress (Emma Stone), Director, Screenplay, Score, and Song! Previously, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was the record-holder for winning 6/6 and both "Doctor Zhivago" and "A Star is Born" 5 for 5.
A big congrats to Chazelle and "La La Land!"
The biggest upset for me? Natalie Portman's "Jackie" performance was overshadowed by Isabelle Huppert in "Elle." I thought Portman, wigs and make-up included, embodied the role of our former First Lady!
In the TV category, "The Night Manager" was the big winner taking home three awards (mostly for performance for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie), followed by "The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" and "The Crown" each with two.

Last week Kino Lorber launched a new Kickstarter aimed to fund their latest project “Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers,” a collection of important American films directed by women, including Alice Guy Blaché, Lois Weber, Nell Shipman, Dorothy Davenport, and many more, between 1910 and 1929.
The ambitious project will be presented in association with the Library of Congress and be the largest commercially-released video collection of films by female helmers. It will include HD restorations of both the most important films of the era, as well as lesser-known works, including short films, fragments and isolated chapters of incomplete serials.
“By showcasing the ambitious, inventive films from the golden age of women directors, we can get a sense of what was lost by the marginalization of women to ‘support roles’ within the film industry,” reads the Kickstarter page.

With dramas like “Lone Survivor” and “Deepwater Horizon,” Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg have committed themselves to bringing true stories of American heroes to the big screen. The latter is now playing in theaters nationwide, but that’s not the last we’ll see of the pair this year. Hitting select theaters this Christmas, “Patriots Day” finds the filmmaking team tackling the events of the Boston Marathon Bombing.
The film centers around Mark Wahlberg’s Sergeant Tommy Saunders, a composite character based on real members of the Boston Police Department, who leads the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bomber. His efforts are supported by Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon) and Watertown Police Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons).

Joseph Losey doesn't normally make trendy, lighthearted genre films, and in this SuperSpy epic we find out why -- an impressive production and great music don't compensate for a lack of pace and dynamism, not to mention a narrow sense of humor. When John le Carré’s name is attached to a movie or television series, you already know what to expect. An author whose firsthand experience in the intelligence world informs his work, the novelist has developed a singular approach to spy stories. The films and series based on his work have attracted sizable budgets and A-list casts despite the labyrinthine governmental entanglements and devastating, feel-bad endings that come with le Carré’s territory. But where some of those other projects managed to preserve the author’s grounded approach, “Our Kind of Traitor” represents a Hollywood pivot to a film that, while entertaining at points, dilutes le Carré’s potency.
The aforementioned star power here comes from Ewan McGregor, playing unassuming poetry professor Perry (introduced kissing and caressing a woman’s naked back, lest you think he lacks mainstream movie spy bona fides), who becomes an unlikely pawn in a cross-continent informational tug-of-war.

After three days of celebs, slashers, and screenings, the Silver Scream Fest went out with a flourish today in Santa Rosa, Calif. The three-day film festival saw luminaries like Freddy Krueger’s own Robert Englund, director John Landis, seven-time makeup-effects Oscar winner Rick Baker, ambidextrous artist Rob Prior, and Elm Street heroine Heather Langenkamp, among others, come to meet fans and talk about their contributions to horror cinema.
There were screenings of some of the best independent scary cinema out there, in addition to screenings of contemporary classics like A Nightmare On Elm Street, New Nightmare, An American Werewolf In London (on its 35th anniversary), and Santa Sangre alongside classics from the Golden Age of Hollywood like Dracula (On its 85th anniversary! Seems like just yesterday….), Island Of Lost Souls, and White Zombie.

I want to quickly establish that these are my personal favorite movies I saw this year, not necessarily the movies I consider the best of 2015. Every year I wrestle a little with how to justify the distinction between those two categories, and this year the simplest way I can describe it is to say that if this were a list of what I thought were the best, most important movies of the year, Spotlight would be at or near the top. But I like lists of "favorites" better, because I think it shows a more direct line into a writer's personality and tastes instead of having to wonder if someone added a certain movie to a list because he or she thinks it's "supposed" to be there. So with that in mind, let's jump into this.

Well now, another domino in the 2015 awards season has fallen. A few minutes ago, the Golden Globe nominations were announced, getting us closer to the end of the line in the race for Academy Award nominations. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (or HFPA) aren’t a guild, but they function as a notable juncture in the season. The Globes this year will be chiming in on a slate of contenders without many frontrunners, so they may very well have a chance to impact the choices of Oscar voters. It may not end up mattering much to members of the Academy, but the folks from the HFPA never cease to give it a shot. This time around though, they have a more respectable slate to present than usual, which is a real plus. My immediate takeaway here is that the list of nominees is pretty solid, though with some pretty big snubs,...

Hitman films tend to be action-packed and heavy with tropes familiar to that particular sub-genre of thrillers. Yet Dutch filmmaker Alex van Warmerdam hopes to subvert those expectations by crafting an almost absurdist, Beckett-style drama between two contract killers hired to take out the other. Such is the premise of Schneider vs Bax, where two seemingly normal individuals reveal their true colors when put to the test of trying to kill one another. Director van Warmerdam, who brought us the devilishly delightful Borgman a few years prior, also stars as one of the titular leads, Bax, adding a compelling layer of personal subtext to his conflicted on-screen persona. Yet despite being able to create an enticing mood with beautiful cinematography and a deliberately methodical pace, Schneider vs Bax does little to deliver on its auspicious prospects, and all that remains in the end are fragmented concepts that fall to the wayside.

If you've seen Avengers: Age of Ultron, then congratulations, because here's a deleted scene that will add a little bit more depth to a major character's death. If you haven't, run away now.
Still with us? Excellent. In the following clips, Aaron Taylor Johnson's Quicksilver is seen chatting up Sokovian beauty Zrinka (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), giving her a dress and her brother a ball.
Her brother, as it turns out, is the boy that Hawkeye is trying to rescue later on in the film.
This means that when - spoiler alert! - Quicksilver runs in front of a hail of bullets to protect them, it's done in part out of a duty to this boy, and to Zrinka.
It's a nice touch, but when the first cut of the film came in at 195 minutes, you can see why this little moment was snipped out, helping reduce to the blockbuster to its final 142-minute running time.

John Hurt, Samantha Morton and Tahar Ramin star in Sky Atlantic's new original series The Last Panthers - and Digital Spy has exclusive first-look pictures.
From the pen of This Is England's Jack Thorne, the crime thriller charts the aftermath of a daring jewel heist.
A six part series - co-produced by Sky and France's Canal + - The Last Panthers will delve into the dark heart of Europe, where a shadowy alliance of gangsters and 'banksters' now rule.
Oscar nominee Norton plays Naomi, a British loss adjuster charged with recovering the stolen diamonds at any cost.
Hurt is Tom - her nefarious boss - while Rahim has been cast as Khalil, a French-Algerian policeman also in pursuit.
"As Sky continues to invest in more original programming, The Last Panthers is the perfect series to add to Sky Atlantic's exciting drama slate," said Zai Bennett, Director of Sky Atlantic.

Daniel Craig's upcoming fourth outing as James Bond is looking to be both his and the franchise's longest entry to date.
Three British theater chains (via Digital Spy have posted runtimes for "Spectre" ahead of its Blighty release next month. Two place the film's runtime at 160 minutes and another at 155 minutes.
That would put it well ahead of "Skyfall" at 142 minutes and "Casino Royale" at 144 minutes which were the previous longest running films in the franchise.
Director Sam Mendes was said to have locked the film the other week so it's unlikely to be cut back any further. In related news, Naomie Harris takes on the role of Miss Moneypenny again not only in the film but in a new tie-in Sony commercial which has just gone online. Check out that sequence, helmed by Bond title sequence designer Danny Kleinman, below:...

It's fair to say that Fox's latest attempt to turn Fantastic Four into a hit movie franchise has gone up in the kind of flames that'd make Johnny Storm jealous. Director Josh Trank found himself entrenched in battles with cast, crew and studio bosses during a turbulent shoot that resulted in a deeply-flawed film that's a hodge-podge of competing visions.
A critical panning, box office flop and failure to catch on with the wider public (much like the Tim Story movies that preceded it) point to one question: when will fans get the Fantastic Four movie they truly deserve?
Kate Mara's wig and 5 other reasons Fantastic Four flopped hard
The answer lies away from the 20th Century Fox fanfare and over by Pixar's Luxo lamp. Brad Bird's The Incredibles 2 is on the horizon, and if its 2004 predecessor proved anything it's that the Pixar crew know exactly how to do Fantastic Four right.

Grossing an estimated $60 million this weekend, the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton has already been established as one of summer's most unlikely non-franchise blockbusters and bona fide box-office smashes, dwarfing the openings of higher-profile offerings such as Fantastic Four and Terminator Genisys. (And, if that number holds, it will have had a better first weekend than even Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the crowned king of this season's name-brand entries which debuted with a domestic haul of $55.5 million according to Box Office Mojo.) But in hindsight, Compton's sleeper-success story isn't that surprising at all.

Even the most skeptical doubters of the new reboot were expecting Josh Trank's film to at least be an improvement on the two previous films from a decade ago, but some of the reviews seem to suggest we're in for something on about the same level. Here are some excerpts:
"Joining Spider-Man in the annals of dizzyingly rapid reboots, Fox's second stab at "Fantastic Four" comes just eight years after the first try and its sequel, which didn't set the bar inordinately high. Yet if this latest version, with a significantly younger cast (one's tempted to call it "Fantastic Four High"), clears that threshold, it's just barely, drawing from a different source to reimagine the quartet's origins without conspicuously improving them... Ultimately, Fox's stab at reviving...

The creative team for Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man is set now that the Vacation reboot writers have confirmed their involvement.
John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein spoke out over the weekend to confirm reports that they will pen Peter Parker's return to the big screen.
Sam Raimi has his say on Marvel's Spider-Man reboot: 'It's gonna be refreshing'
"We can finally acknowledge that," Daley told NPR. "This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it."
His partner Goldstein added: "We've been saying no comment for the last week… We're thrilled."
It's already known that the new Spider-Man movie will not be a straight origin story, instead focusing on a high-school age webslinger battling new franchise villains.
"He's a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he's an outcast and a geek through humour," Daley explained.
"It is sort of the...

Works for your appreciation with gasp-inducing action sequences and an ethos that has fun with its legacy while moving in a new direction. I’m “biast” (pro): loved the previous film in the series
I’m “biast” (con): really would like to see some new stories
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
If we simply must keep getting the same movies over and over and over again — and that is not a concession that this status quo is unchangeable — they need to be at least as good as Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Though perhaps with less convoluted punctuation in their titles.
Have we see this all before? Yes… and no. Spy action thrillers should be a dime a dozen instead of $21/£18 a pop in IMAX, but ubiquitous they certainly are. Globetrotting gunplay by agents with cool gadgets and a particular set of skills are utterly...

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 76th Hunger Games," Finnick Odair murmurs darkly in the new trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
Though the government-sanctioned Games are officially behind them, Katniss and her fellow rebels find themselves walking once again into a rigged battlefield laden with traps, as they make their final descent on the Capitol to overthrow President Snow.
Below, Digital Spy picks out 8 talking points from this trailer for The Hunger Games' final chapter.
1. Katniss & Peeta reunited
There is hope, Everlark shippers! Despite Katniss being strangled half to death by a brainwashed Peeta last time we saw them, the pair are seen getting close again – and even sharing a mid-battle kiss.
2. President Snow remains a creepy bastard
"My dear Miss Everdeen, I've been watching you, and you watching me…" Shudder. The endlessly sinister relationship between Snow and Katniss feels like a framing device as sorts for this finale,...

While most of us are getting excited for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it's hard to forget that plans are already underway for its follow-up.
In terms of casting, Episode VIII of the sequel trilogy may have found its villain already in Benicio Del Toro.
According to The Wrap, the actor has been offered a role but discussions are still in the very early stages.
Director Rian Johnson is expected to start shooting the movie next year at the Pinewood Studios in the UK once again, ahead of its release on May 26, 2017.
For now the focus remains on Jj Abrams's upcoming instalment in the franchise, which was recently teased at Comic-Con 2015.
Andy Serkis looks set to play the villain as Supreme Leader Snoke in The Force Awakens, although the actor recently told Digital Spy he won't reveal anything about his character.
