Your basic documentary but with lots of rare footage.

Excellent A&E documentary features an approx. 50 minute presentation on the rise and fall of the last czar of Russia, Nicholas II and his family. The majority of the documentary focuses on the lifeline of the czar and family, using rare film, previously inaccessible documents, photos, and living witnesses to the Bolshevik revolution, including Yurovsky's daughter. Sporadically hosted by splinter descendants, it surprisingly doesn't dwell too much on the line of ascension; or other usual Nicholas II topics such as Gregory Rasputin, who really warrant documentaries of their own. "The Revenge of the Romanovs" seems to be the title of the documentary because it eventually debunks the myth of Anna Anderson/Anastacia by presenting recent discoveries such as the unearthing of the imperial family's bones and the subsequent DNA analysis confirmation. This recent development, plus the continuity of narrative, the (sometimes very candid) film footage, and outstanding authentic music scoring makes this the best documentary on the subject to date.
