Pop superstar Beyoncé has released the tracklist for her latest album, a foray into country music titled Cowboy Carter, which is set for release on Thursday and will include a cover of a beloved Dolly Parton classic and a guest appearance from genre legend Willie Nelson.
The tracklist was revealed on the singer’s Instagram account Wednesday in anticipation of her follow-up to the smash hit Renaissance album, released in 2022 to universal acclaim. Named in the graphic image that displays the new album’s tracks is “Jolene,” one of Parton’s most beloved and covered tracks, having previously been covered by the late Olivia Newton-John, The White Stripes and Miley Cyrus, among others. The rodeo poster-style track confirms its inclusion and also touts guest Nelson on a track titled “Smoke Hour.”

Promotions for Beyoncé’s upcoming Cowboy Carter album made its way onto New York City museums Wednesday night, nearly a week ahead of its highly anticipated release.
Advertisements for the album, which is set to drop March 29, were seen projected on several museums, including the Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum, New Museum and the Museum of Art and Design.
However, Guggenheim shared in a statement with The Hollywood Reporter that the institution “was not informed about and did not authorize this activation. However, we invite the public — including Beyoncé and her devoted fans — to visit the museum May 16–20 when we present projections by artist Jenny Holzer on the facade of our iconic building to celebrate the opening of her major exhibition.”
The promo displayed on the outside of the Guggenheim Museum featured the phrases “This ain’t a country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album,” as well as the album’s title and release date.

Beyoncé is getting candid about what led to the creation of Act II: Cowboy Carter, which is a continuation of her record-breaking album Renaissance.
The 2022 Grammy-winning album has long been rumored to be a part of a trilogy, with the upcoming album being the second installment. The artist announced Act II in a Super Bowl commercial and dropped two songs: “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.”
Beyoncé shared the cover art for the album on Instagram, along with a lengthy caption, celebrating the 10-day countdown to the Cowboy Carter release. She also thanked her fans for the support they’ve shown for the two songs that were released on Super Bowl Sunday.
“I feel honored to be the first Black woman with the number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart,” she wrote. “That would not have happened without the outpouring of support from each and every one of you.

The disco horse on the cover of Beyoncé’s dance opus Renaissance has come to life on the cover of Cowboy Carter, the second act of her ongoing album series set to arrive on March 29. Perched on a white horse, the musician holds the reins in one hand and a flowing American flag in the other. Her wrangling of control in the artwork is reflective of the place from which Cowboy Carter emerged.

So many Beyoncé songs have changed the world — and one in particular changed Rihanna’s world. When the “Sos” singer was still part of a girl group, she auditioned for a producer by singing a song by Queen B. The producer in question went on to write two of Rihanna’s biggest early hits.
It’s not clear which Beyoncé song Rihanna sang
During a 2020 interview with Vulture, producer Evan Rodgers recalled watching the “Only Girl (In the World)” singer audition for him while she was still part of a girl group. “My wife’s goddaughter asked if the girl group could come by our villa,” he said. “Rihanna was the last one to show up, she was late.
“She drew all the attention and I was almost thinking maybe she’s just in the group because she’s so striking [to look at],” he added. “Sometimes it works that way. I had...

I throw around the concept of “Grammy darlings” a lot, but what exactly constitutes a Grammy darling? Is it just an artist who doesn’t lose Grammys often, like U2, Adele or Bruno Mars? Let’s go through a few top names.
Beyoncé: Darling
Listen, the most awarded person in Grammy history is definitely a darling. Granted, she has yet to win Album of the Year. However, more impressively, all of her projects have won at least one Grammy. Most have won multiple, including “Dangerously in Love,” “Lemonade,” and “Renaissance.” Beyoncé also gets nominations for pretty much anything she submits, and will likely become the first artist to nab nominations in rap, rock, R&b, dance, pop and country. On top of all that, it’s rare for Beyoncé to miss nominations in the general field, especially with no nominations review committees anymore to potentially force her out.

The Grammys are handed out every year by the Recording Academy, an organization composed of music professionals representing different genres across the industry. For multiple years their nominations for Album of the Year were decided by clandestine nomination review committees, but the academy got rid of most of those in 2021, so now the decisions are made entirely by members at large. Scroll down for our latest racetrack odds, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Those odds are constantly changing, so we’ll be updating this list throughout the season.
SEEGrammy Album of the Year: All the Winners in Grammy Awards History
Not everyone in the industry appreciates the Grammys, though. At the 2021 awards The Weeknd didn’t get a single nomination despite an acclaimed album (“After Hours”) and a song (“Blinding Lights”) so popular that Billboard ranked it as their number-one single of 2021 and the number-one song of all time.

AMC CEO Adam Aron can’t thank Taylor Swift and Beyoncé enough.
AMC Entertainment reported its Q4 earnings on Wednesday, February 28, with the theater chain seeing revenue growth of double digits in the quarter. Aron credited all of that growth — “literally, all of it,” Aron stressed — to AMC itself distributing both “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” and “Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé.” It did this despite box office being down on the whole across the industry in the fourth quarter of the year.
“These two movies added greatly to movie theatre ticket sales across our entire industry, as just these two films represented fully one ninth of the complete fourth quarter domestic industry-wide box office,” Aron said in a statement. “This is a stunning result given that neither of these films were on anyone’s drawing board until mid-year, and that they were the first movies ever distributed by AMC in our entire 103-year history.

Kelly Rowland has endured a disappointing acting career trend, with most movies receiving negative reviews, except those with Beyoncé. Mea Culpa, directed by Tyler Perry, combines legal drama and erotic thriller elements, and stars Rowland and Trevante Rhodes. Despite criticism of unrealistic plot twists and lack of chemistry, some critics praised Rowland and Rhodes' chemistry in the movie.
Kelly Rowland's 2024 Netflix project Mea Culpa has been negatively received by most critics, continuing a disappointing career trend for the singer-turned-actress. At the time of writing, the movie only holds a 20% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting a wider tendency in Rowland's screen career. However, while the 43-year-old's portfolio as a whole has arguably not lived up to expectations, it's important to note that there is a catch behind her movies' reputations.
Directed by Tyler Perry, Mea Culpa is part legal drama, part erotic thriller centered on the conflict between a high-flying lawyer's personal and professional lives.

A. G. Cook began 2024 by releasing a single, “Silver Needle Golden Thread,” followed by the announcement of his third studio album, Britpop. Now, the PC Music founder is back with the album’s title track, “Britpop,” featuring Charli Xcx.
Opening with Charli delivering the refrain “Brit/ Brit like Britpop,” the track evolves in typical Cook fashion, introducing layers of shimmery, bubbling synths which eventually blossom into a full-fledged dance arrangement. Around the midway point, Charli’s vocals drop out and an intricate bass groove takes their place. For the outro, the refrain returns as a distorted echo, roaring over the beat like the whistle of an approaching train. Stream the track below.
Britpop as a whole is due on May 10th via New Alias, arriving as a 24-song project encompassing three different chapters: Past, Present, and Future. Inspired by the time he spent in the Montana hometown of his girlfriend,...

The 2024 Grammy Awards showed Beyoncé in a new light as the “Texas Hold ’Em” singer went cowboy core. Born in Houston, the 42-year-old pivoted from her usual leg-baring bodysuits and elegant dresses to a skirt suit and Stetson cowboy hat.
Since debuting her full country-chic look at the Grammys, Beyoncé has released two new singles with Western touches involving banjos, violins, and a more traditional two-step beat. Then, the “16 Carriages” singer started attending New York Fashion Week.

Robert Randolph was tooling around Florida when the call came. The musician, whose sacred steel slide guitar has powered his own Family Band albums and has popped up on records by Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Thomas, Santana, and Dave Matthews Band, was behind the wheel when his office phoned to tell him that Beyoncé wanted him to record with her.
“I said, ‘Record what — you sure you have the right person?’” Randolph recalls, noting his own jam-band style. “I’m the kind who plays and plays and plays on.

Beyoncé sent her fans a shocker on Super Bowl Sunday, using a Verizon ad to announce “Renaissance Act II” and drop two brand-new country songs. But members of the BeyHive with a penchant for half-hour comedies got a two-for-one deal, as the pop star appeared in the commercial opposite an unexpected partner: “Veep” and “Arrested Development” star Tony Hale.
Hale has spent years of his career playing awkward, offbeat beta males overshadowed by powerful women: “It’s a forte of mine,” he says, reflecting on what his newest collaborator may have in common with Lucille Bluth and Selina Meyer. He felt at home at Yoncé’s side, though, he isn’t totally sure how much she knew about him in return. “We really didn’t have much time to chat,” he laughs. “I didn’t ask her, ‘Have you seen my work?'”

Update: Nielsen has updated their estimate, reporting that Super Bowl Lviii reached 123.7 million viewers, up from the initial count of 123.4 million.
The Feb. 11 Super Bowl game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers brought in an average of 123.4 million viewers — the highest number of people watching the same broadcast in the history of television.
112 million of those viewers were tuned into the CBS broadcast — the largest audience ever for a single network. The rest were measured across Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports and NFL digital properties including NFL+. Per Paramount Global, Paramount+ saw record-breaking viewership that made Sunday the most-streamed Super Bowl ever, but exact data regarding streaming views isn’t available.

Taylor Swift announced her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” when she won Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys. But Beyonce was like, “Hold my beer,” and revealed during the Super Bowl that she would be dropping new music. Beyonce’s “Act II,” her follow-up to “Renaissance,” is slated for March 29, after which “Tortured Poets” comes on April 19. Perhaps surprisingly, that makes this the first time in 15 years that the two superstars will have competing eras at the Grammys. Will Swift win Album of the Year for the fifth time, or will Beyonce finally win for the first time? Or might they both be overtaken by another artist?
Of course, I must preface this by saying that neither album is out yet, so whether they’ll even be any good has yet to be determined. But considering their creative and commercial consistency over the years, let’s for the...

Bust out the blue sequins, polish up your roller skates, and start sending those congratulatory gifts to Taylor Swift. As the country participated in the gratuitous orgy of capitalism otherwise known as Super Bowl Lviii, the real ones know that even though the Chiefs came out on top in a down-to-the-wire overtime win over the 49ers, the bona fide highlights of every Super Bowl Sunday are those super spots. Judging by motifs of the past, some years the commercials are downright weird, while in other eras the bulk focused on heart-wrenching sentimentality.

It was a clean sweep for Taylor Swift at the 2024 Gold Derby Music Awards. She came into our fourth annual event with nine nominations and walked away with nine victories including Artist of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Watch the announcement video above for winners in all categories, and scroll down for the complete list.
In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. But her Album of the Year victory for “Midnights” is only her second in that race. In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. But her Album of the Year victory for “Midnights” is only her second in that race. The Grammys are presented every year by the Recording Academy, an organization composed of music insiders from across the industry. For years their nominations for Album of the Year were decided by secret nomination review committees, but the academy eliminated almost all of those in 2021, so now the decisions are made entirely by members at large without an intermediary to override their choices. Scroll down for our latest racetrack odds, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Those odds are constantly changing, so we’ll be updating this list throughout the season.

It’s a fascinating and complicated time to be an Afropop lover, with so many people outside of Africa joining the ranks. Consider Afrobeats, a broad subgenre under the even broader umbrella of African pop, which earned 2.5 billion streams by the midpoint of 2023, per Luminate, an entertainment analytics company. That represented a 34 percent jump in streams over the year before. All of this newfound attention has made for great music, collaborations, and Irl spaces to jam — from Atlanta to Amsterdam to Abuja — but has also raised concerns around ownership, opportunities,...

Saoirse Ronan was knee-deep in lamb goo on the first day of filming “The Outrun,” a searing look at addiction that premiered on Friday at the Sundance Film Festival.
Adapted from Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir, “The Outrun” centers on Rona, a recovering alcoholic who returns home to the Orkney Islands in Scotland after spending a hard-living decade in London. Eager to escape the temptations of her former life, she helps out on her father’s sheep farm, where she isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.
“I delivered seven lambs,” she said proudly at the Variety Studio presented by Audible. “That was very terrifying. I didn’t know if I was going to kill the lamb as I was pulling ’em out.”

Barbie remains the biggest Hollywood success story of the past year. A union between a beloved Mattel toy brand and the director of Little Women and Lady Bird, there’s a reason star and producer Margot Robbie pitched the combination as comparable to Steven Spielberg and dinosaurs. What you have here is a subject matter that generations of audiences grew up on and an auteur director bringing it to life in a fresh and exciting way. In 2019, Warner Bros. saw Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s vision, much to the studio’s reward four years later.
However, there was a time when such a pitch wouldn’t have been accepted, no matter who the director was. In fact, Sharon Stone revealed in a recent social media post that she could not even get studio executives to entertain the basic idea of a Barbie movie during the 1990s.

Nestled amid a tale of hardship and torment, “Keep It Movin'” is a bright spot in the newly released adaptation of “The Color Purple.” Just as sisters Nettie and Celie (Halle Bailey and Phylicia Pearl Mpasi) are about to be torn from one another, they find a brief moment of respite and optimism as they sing to one another on the beach. “Nothing’s gonna take you down, oh / Just let it go / Life can never break your soul,” sings Nettie, instilling a feeling of hope that flickers and wanes in Celie as the film endures.
As one of the few original songs included in director Blitz Bazawule’s revival of “The Color Purple,” “Keep It Movin'” has already emerged as a focal point for the movie, which earned the second-biggest Christmas Day opening in history following its release on Dec. 25. Beyond its buoyant charms, it’s resonated beyond the...

Choreographer Fatima Robinson fused hip-hop, dance, African history, tap, jazz and even Jamaican moves as she crafted the musical numbers in “The Color Purple,” but there was one person in particular whose energy she wanted to capture: Beyoncé.
Director Blitz Bazawule blends Alice Walker’s text and the Broadway musical to reimagine the classic as a vibrant movie musical. “American Idol’s” Fantasia Barrino plays Celie, a woman who slowly finds her voice with Shug Avery’s (Taraji P. Henson) help. Shug isn’t just Mister’s (Colman Domingo) lover, she is a lounge singer from the big city. Preceding her arrival is a buzz of excitement in the “Shug Avery’s Comin to Town” number. But her big moment is the juke joint performance of “Push da Button,” and for that, Robinson wanted everything about it to “feel incredible.”

The weekend before Christmas only saw one new nationwide studio release, and while it may have underperformed compared to expectations, it’s likely to add to the holiday business as theaters fill up in the week following Christmas Day. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Ahead of the holiday business boom, Warner Bros. opened the family musical comedy “Wonka,” starring Timothée Chalamet as Roald Dahl‘s Willy Wonka, into 4,203 theaters on Friday after it racked up a respectable 83% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Directed by Paul King (“Paddington”), the movie co-starred Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant, Kagan Michael-Key, Rowan Atkinson, relative newcomer Calah Lane and more.
“Wonka” made $3.5 million in Thursday previews and $14.4 million on Friday (including those previews) with an estimated $39 million for the weekend. That may be below some expectations but is par for the course over the past few weeks. “Wonka” received an “A-” CinemaScore, the...

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé is projected to bring in an additional $1.9 million at the domestic box office in its third weekend. This will bring the movie to a cumulative domestic total of $30.7 million. It has fallen behind four titles released even earlier, ranking at No. 9 on the box office chart for the weekend.
Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé has continued to tumble down the box office chart. The concert documentary, which showcases Beyoncé's blockbuster 2023 tour and was directed, written, and produced by the artist, originally opened at No. 1 in the first weekend of December with a domestic gross of $21.8 million, which was a considerable total for a concert movie despite failing to compete with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour's $92.8 million opening from October. However, Renaissance fell precipitously during its second weekend in theaters with a week-on-week drop of 74.9%.

What Happened To Beyoncé's Renaissance Movie's Box Office? Massive Drop & $36M Performance Explained
Beyoncé's concert film, "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé," experienced a significant drop in box office numbers during its second weekend, earning only $5 million. The drop in numbers can be attributed to factors such as the calm before the holiday season and the majority of superfans already watching the movie during its opening weekend. Despite the drop, "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé" is still considered a relative triumph, with positive reviews and a total global box office earnings of $36.1 million.
The box office numbers are in for Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé's second weekend in theaters, and they do not bode well for the projected success of Beyoncé's concert movie. The 2023 documentary film, directed and written by the singer herself, chronicles Beyoncé's 2023 stadium tour, the Renaissance World Tour, which showcases her seventh studio album Renaissance, released in 2022. The movie is two hours and 48 minutes long and includes numerous songs from Renaissance,...

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé fell all the way out of the Top 5 and performed poorly in its second weekend, making only $5 million. The Boy and the Heron claimed the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office with an impressive opening estimate of $12.8 million. Poor Things, Eileen and Origin all boasted staggering per-theater averages in limited release.
In a game of theatrically based musical chairs, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé is clearly out. After the concert movie won its opening weekend in theaters rather handily with $21.8 million domestically (per The Numbers), singing sensation Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s bubble burst. Beyoncé's concert documentary Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé is struggling at the box office, with a projected 77% drop in its second week. It is currently in competition with Disney's Wish for the No. 5 spot on the domestic box office chart. There's a possibility that Renaissance may fall out of the Top 5 after just one week in theaters.
Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé is in danger of falling off the chart completely. The movie, which is a concert documentary following Beyoncé's recent Renaissance World Tour and was written, directed, and produced by the star herself, opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office the weekend after Thanksgiving. Its opening weekend gross of $21.8 million allowed it to conquer other well-performing movies including the holdover young adult blockbuster The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and the new release of the Japanese import Godzilla Minus One.

“The Boy and the Heron,” a fantastical coming-of-age story from animation maestro Hayao Miyazaki, earned $12.8 million in its opening weekend, becoming the first original anime production to top the domestic box office. The GKids release is showing in Imax and other premium large format auditoriums, which bolstered its record-breaking revenues and helped secure its first place finish. It also benefitted from a lack of big-screen offerings, with holiday blockbusters such as “Wonka” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” still waiting to make their debuts in the coming weeks.
“The Boy and the Heron” marks Miyazaki’s unexpected return to screens after being absent for more than a decade — the filmmaker behind classics like “Spirited Away” and “Princess Mononoke” announced he was retiring in 2013 when his previous film, “The Wind Rises,” was released. “The Boy and the Heron” has slowly been rolling out internationally, earning $84 million, with $56 million of that coming from Miyazaki’s native Japan.

Acclaimed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki’s Japanese film The Boy and the Heron flew to a record-breaking $12.8 million opening, making it the first original anime title in history to top the North American box office chart.
The whimsical movie — which earned Miyazaki his first Golden Globe nomination on Monday — wisely chose to open on a weekend when there were no new wide releases from the major Hollywood studios. The first and second weekends of December are generally quiet as the studios prepare to unwrap their big Christmas films.
This year, the holiday action gets underway in earnest next weekend when Warner Bros. opens Wonka, although it debuted in select markets overseas this weekend to a very promising $43.2 million from 37 markets, enough to rank No. 1 on the weekend global weekend chart.

Godzilla Minus One continues to dominate the box office, with a projected 3-day total of $7.9 million in its second weekend, only a 31% drop from its opening weekend. The movie has achieved the smallest second-weekend drop of any Godzilla film, including Legendary's blockbusters in the Monsterverse. Godzilla Minus One has maintained its No. 3 spot on the domestic chart for the second weekend in a row.
Godzilla Minus One has shattered an important franchise box office record during its second weekend in U.S. theaters. Box Office: ‘The Boy and the Heron’ Rises to No. 1 in North America With Projected $10 Million Debut
Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” looks to soar atop domestic charts this weekend after earning about $5.4 million across Friday and various preview screenings. Playing in 2,205 theaters, the GKids release has the benefit of Imax and other premium large format auditoriums to boost those numbers.
It’s another modest win for theaters in a marketplace that may not ever recover to pre-covid levels. “The Boy and the Heron” is the latest in a series of more successful targeted event releases with smaller marketing spends. See last weekend’s openings of “Godzilla Minus One,” staying in third place for its sophomore outing, or even “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” which topped charts in its debut. Then there’s previous animated features from established anime like last year’s “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” ($38 million domestic) or the first “Demon Slayer” ($49 million domestic). Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli generally don’t dabble in IP; but,...

This is one of those weekend’s where you can see the effects of both the covid backlog and the strikes merging together to give us a relatively quiet weekend. We are in the second week of December and the biggest new release on the schedule is Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron. Granted, Miyazaki has earned his reputation as one of the best ever in the animation game with such classics as Castle In The Sky, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo and The Wind Rises (with Spirited Away landing the legendary filmmaker an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature).

For the moment, let's put aside the fact that Beyoncé is a once-in-a-generation talent and one of the best entertainers alive. Let's also put aside the incredible production design, lights, pyrotechnics, choreography, live music, hair and makeup, and sound work that goes into producing her wildly impressive tour and subsequent movie, "Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé." I was stunned by all of those aspects of this movie, perhaps none more than the film's editing. That's not always the sexiest thing to talk about when it comes to movies, but the editing in "Renaissance" deserves a shout out.
The film is relentlessly paced: Aside from the copious amount of concert footage spanning dozens of different shows over the course of the tour, there are so many shots of the crowd, behind the scenes conversations between Beyoncé and her family, interviews with different department heads, and B-roll of the production coming together.

Destiny’s Child is one of the biggest, most influential R&b-pop girl groups of all time.
The legendary troupe first debuted in the late ‘90s, delivering hits like “No, No, No,” “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name” that sent them skyrocketing to superstardom in the music industry.
Throughout the years, the group experienced several member lineup shake-ups, before ultimately landing on their most well-known iteration, dubbed “DC3.” Together, the trio would release fun, empowering smashes like “Survivor,” “Bootylicious” and “Independent Woman Pt. 1.”
