Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve tells us why making the sci-fi sequel was the most difficult thing he’s ever done...
Denis Villeneuve looks like a filmmaker with the weight of the world on his shoulders, or at least the weight of one of this year’s most anticipated movies.

Connor Franta made headlines when he came out as gay to his millions of online fans in 2014, but even in a world where self-exposure can lead to fame, Franta, 24, has held back.
For years the Hokah, Minn., native has privately suffered from depression, a struggle he writes about in a new book, Note to Self (his first memoir, 2015’s A Work in Progress, was a bestseller).
Franta‘s latest work centers on reflections he wrote while going through “copious amounts of therapy” to help deal with the condition.

It’s Sunday night, 7:19 P.M. on my clock, which makes the premiere of the 2016 Doctor Who Christmas Special just an hour and 41 minutes away. The long drought is almost over.
I’ve been getting my Whovian fix this week by watching as much as I can of BBCAmerica’s marathon of episodes, which has been running since last Tuesday. It was interesting to watch the progression of Doctors, as it gave me a chance to really compare Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, and Capaldi’s characterizations of the Time Lord.
To be honest, I can’t really say all that much about Christopher Eccleston’s turn – it always seemed a little flat to me, as though the actor rather quickly regretted signing on to the role, and so was doing that – merely playing a role until the contract ran out. (I remind everyone that this is all imho, not, for a change,...

Tyler Oakley will join the ranks of published YouTube celebrities. The wildly popular vlogger, who boasts over 6.8 million subscribers on his channel, just announced his first book deal for a collection of personal essays called Binge, which will be released in October 2015.
In an announcement video, Oakley notes how he was previously offered a book deal in 2012, but turned down the offer because he wasn’t sure if he had stories worth telling. Oakley goes on to explain how he took the next two years to write as often as he could, until he felt like he had a collection of personal essays he felt comfortable enough sharing with the world. The vlogger pitched the idea to Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books imprint in December 2014 and finally signed off on a book deal.

As one of the more enjoyable Ya adaptations and one that skews male in its appeal, The Maze Runner could be a crossover hit this weekend. To be a part of the crowd, you’ll want to go see the story of Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), a guy who wakes up en route to a mysterious courtyard that will be his new home until he can escape the surrounding labyrinth. And afterward, as you try to figure out all the questions you have about the plot and which might be answered in the sequel (and maybe prequel), you’ll want to go through this week’s list of movies to watch, each of them relevant to Wes Ball‘s adaptation of the James Dashner book. First, though, you should also check out Ball’s previous films, all of them shorts. I shared his Student Academy Award winner, A Work in Progress, the...

Mindy Kaling’s single-camera comedy is not only hitting all of its marks in its second season, it’s surpassing them… and leaving New Girl in its wake. At BuzzFeed, you can read my latest feature, "Why The Mindy Project Is No Longer A Work In Progress, But Perfection," in which I write about why The Mindy Project is perfect (and what Fox's New Girl could learn from it these days). The noticeable creative decline of Fox’s once-sterling comedy New Girl — which this season has offered some head-scratching plot developments (who exactly was calling for the full-time return of Coach?) and a dearth of actual comedy — has had a unintentional silver lining of sorts. It’s allowed the show’s winsome timeslot companion The Mindy Project — created by and starring Mindy Kaling — its own opportunity to shine. And, let’s be honest: The Mindy Project is currently glowing with...

Tickets for Ricky Gervais's first musical live shows as his Office character David Brent have sold out in under 60 seconds.
Gervais is playing two warm-up shows for the 'David Brent & Foregone Conclusion Live - A Work In Progress' tour at London's Bloomsbury Theatre later this month, but lots of fans were left disappointed as tickets were quickly snapped up for the gigs,
Ok, so apparently, the Brent tickets sold out in under a minute. How is that even possible? Sorry.
— Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) October 1, 2013
Gervais apologised to fans for the limited tickets, but promised that he would be offering some seats as competition prizes.
He also urged his Twitter followers not to purchase tickets from touts, describing the prices as "f**king disgusting".
The comedian revisited David Brent in a Comic Relief sketch earlier this year and followed it up by launching a 'Learn Guitar With David Brent' series on YouTube.

A few days ago, those who pre-ordered the digital version of GTA V for the PS3 in Europe received a pleasant surprise: a large chunk of data was downloaded onto their consoles, well in advance of its release date next month.
Actually, it's somewhat common practice for a certain portion of a game that's digitally pre-ordered to arrive beforehand, to save time on downloading when the day of release finally arrives.
But the difference is how, unlike most other examples, in which the data is unusable, this particular chunk contained info that could be extracted, to spoil certain surprises.
Folks were able to mine the data, and while no playable bits have resulted, the game's audio was discovered, about 40 hours worth so far. A work in progress tracklist, among other things, can be found over at Reddit.
Also, the following is supposedly the pre-load theme, courtesy of...

The billing for Worldfest labeled The Legend of DarkHorse County a “work in progress.” I don’t know if there is a specific definition of what exactly constitutes a work in progress, but at the very least the label warns the audience that the film is not a polished product. I’ve seen films that were not complete at other festivals, and despite the fact the sound wasn’t perfect, or the color hadn’t yet been corrected, or some of the special effects weren’t added yet, overall the film was complete enough to watch the whole story.
That wasn’t the case with The Legend of DarkHorse County. What they screened was an extended preview, and that was just the beginning of the let down. The problem started because the film was overly hyped. It had a full page ad in the program. It...

Seeing franchise potential from the eight-minute short, Fox is currently in negotiations to purchase the rights to Ruin and the pitch is to turn it into a live-action film.
The creator of the short, Wes Ball, is attached to direct and co-write the feature version of Ruin with T.S. Nowlin. McG is negotiating to produce the film through his Wonderland Sound and Vision company, along with Lucasfilm executive Steve Tzirlin, who oversaw script and story development for Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Ruin debuted on Vimeo in March, featuring a post-apocalyptic North American city that's been overgrown by vegetation. It's been referred to as I Am Legend meets Terminator 2. The film does provide an incredible vehicle for Ball to show off his skills in creating exciting chases. Fox jumped on the opportunity to purchase the rights to the film before any other studio saw it. A high six-figure deal is rumored.

Back in March we showed you an awesomely beautiful animated short action film called Ruin, directed by Wes Ball. The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic North American city overgrown with green foliage. It's really an impressive short, so it's not really a surprise that it's going to be adapted into a live-action full length feature film.
20th Century Fox has made an offer to acquire the rights for the short, and McG (Terminator Salvation) is in negotiations to produce it. You’ll see a few new applications begin to appear over the month or so of with some of them when they’re released.
