Marking the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination continues to cough up good numbers for TV networks, though, as with that old Fox one-off reality hit Alien Autopsy, it’s unclear whether viewers flocked to the “JFK” — he being our very first made-by-tv president – or the “assassination.” PBS tastefully went with “John F. Kennedy’s legendary charisma” by way of explanation this morning, while discussing the fact its early JFK-assassination programming has cumed nearly 12 million viewers. Related: The Day JFK Was Shot: 50 Years Later, Hollywood Remembers Across Monday and Tuesday last week, JFK — a two-night, four-hour American Experience special that focused on the president’s life and achievements, reached 8.6 million viewers and averaged 2.7 million of them, PBS said. But a Wednesday night Nova broadcast, Cold Case JFK, in which viewers watched contemporary forensic techniques applied to the 50-year-old murder, performed at a whopping 40% over the 9 Pm season-to-date average. That program averaged about 2.6 million viewers.

Secrets of the Dead is a collection of three documentaries from PBS including “Death on the Railroad,” “Caveman Cold Case,” and “Bugging Hitler's Soldiers.” Each documentary was produced by a different team of writers and filmmakers with the only common thread through each film being narration by Jay O. Sanders and a ridiculous opening credits sequence that inspires more laughter than fear.
The first segment follows a cold case from 1832 of Irish immigrants who were assumed killed by a cholera outbreak but might have actually been murdered. The second segment explores the possibility of cannibal Neanderthals and examines a tomb full of Neanderthal remains. The third and best segment features shockingly frank conversations between some of Hitler's top officers who were held as POWs by the British. The British government covertly recorded their conversations, some of which had not been made public until this documentary.

The season finale for "Body of Proof" is on tonight and I mention it only because I've seen that there's something of an informal trend happening on TV right now with Medical Examiners in heels. "Bones" has one in the lovely and somewhat inconsistently written Camille Saroyan, "Rizzoli and Isles" practically writes half the show around that premise, and "Body of Proof" appears to be doing likewise. I'm not saying that one cannot be a whip smart and professional lady in stilettos, I'm saying that as someone who wears them on occasion I definitely wouldn't be wearing them anywhere near decomposing bodies. They like to sink in soft soil and you would run a high risk of getting corpse juice on your feet and I don't care how used to dealing with bodies you are, that's extremely icky. Also I'm pretty sure squatting down to get a better look at...

Not that I should have to tell most of you the big TV news tonight but just in case; tonight is the season two finale for "Justified" so all of you out there who love you some Raylan Givens (I consulted IMDb for the correct spelling of that name since I've seen like three different versions in the comments) are going to be very sad for a while. I missed the beginning so I've got season 1 in my Netflix queue now and only recently (like, today, when I consulted IMDb) became aware that Jacob Pitts of EuroTrip fame is on this series which makes it extra intriguing to me because I love that movie so much that "Scotty Doesn't Know" was my ringtone for almost a year. And will be again, once I get around to putting it on my new phone. Anyway, here's your Wednesday night TV:

There's a bunch of NBA playoff stuff happening which always takes me a little bit by surprise and reminds me why I'm bad at watching sports; I just don't have the attention span for it. And is hockey still going on? I think it is, which seems absurd to me. I like watching the Olympics and the World Cup because both of those take place in reasonable chunks of time. You spend a few weeks obsessing and then you can get back to your normal life! The concept of remaining rabidly devoted to sporting events for months on end just seems totally exhausting. Are any of you really into the NBA playoffs though? I was under the impression that most basketball fans prefer the Ncaa and that no one really cared about the NBA Playoffs except people whose teams might win. And on that note, here's your Wednesday night TV:...

Woke up today with the sniffles and I'm not sure what that's about and it's about the last thing I need at this time of year. This morning I was woken up nearly two hours before my alarm was supposed to go off in such a way that I knew I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep in time to make it worthwhile. It's a special kind of frustrating, realizing that you're up too early without enough sleep but that trying to get back to sleep will only be a pointless and frustrating endeavor that will probably result in you falling back asleep 20 minutes before your alarm goes off which will just make you cranky for the rest of the day. Instead, I got up which will assure that I'm just kind of slow and tired for the rest of the day. Yay for no-win scenarios! Here's your Wednesday night TV:

It's raining today in Miami which is actually not all that out of the ordinary for an area of the world that is subtropical. In fact, about half the year here it can rain at any given moment even if it appears to be perfectly clear and sunny right up until that moment. Or sometimes even after, the experience of getting poured on while the sun is brightly shining is not unusual. The way the drivers in Miami handle rain, though, would lead you to believe that they had all recently moved here from the Sahara and didn't actually know that water could fall from the sky. I remember something similar happening in Maryland each winter when it would snow. As I head out into the mass of insanity that is my commute, here's you Wednesday night TV:
