He’s the king, he’s the boss: Suga of BTS kicked off the “Agust D Tour” in style at the Ubs Arena in New York on April 26th. The first member of the South Korean group to undertake a solo tour, Suga performed cuts from his mixtapes as alter-ego Agust D, along with songs from BTS’s discography and tracks from his new full-length record, D-day (read the review here).
While Suga is hitting the US and Asia solo, he has plenty of nods to his bandmates onstage, like his guitar, which features messages and notes from the other six members of BTS. Meanwhile, in addition to his explosive and emotive solo tracks, the setlist for the concert includes a medley of tracks originally recorded and performed with fellow members of the BTS rap line, Rm and j-hope, the latter of whom recently began his time in the South Korean military.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Stranger Things” Season 2.]
Eleven’s sister may make Season 3 of “Stranger Things” a sibling affair. At the “Stranger Things: Inside the Upside Down” panel at Vulture Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday, the cast and crew of the Netflix series were on hand to reveal behind-the-scenes info from Season 2 and tease what might lie ahead.
In particular, brothers Matt and Ross Duffer revealed that Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) will most likely return for Season 3. “It would feel weird that we would’n’t resolve that storyline,” said Matt Duffer. “Chances are high that she comes back.”
Ross Duffer added, “We’re in very early days of Season 3… That’s not an official announcement.”
In the second season, “Chapter 7: The Lost Sister” was one of the most divisive episodes among fans and critics alike because it was a standalone adventure that took place outside of the action of Hawkins, Indiana. Even IndieWire’s...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Which remaining “Game of Thrones” character would you mourn the most if they died in Season 8?
Kaitlin Thomas (@thekaitling), TVGuide.com
I’ve always been drawn to the most complicated characters, the conflicted people who aren’t wholly good but not completely beyond redemption either, because flawed characters are more realistic and usually more compelling. Too often I find that true villains lack proper motivation and are simply evil for the sake of being evil, while characters who are inherently good also tend to be incredibly boring (sorry, Jon Snow). All of this is to say then that I would mourn the death of Jaime Lannister...

No Korean movie has ever won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Of course, that might have something to do with the fact that no Korean movie has ever been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In other words, Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” — which won a little gold man for Best Art Direction in 2010 — has more Oscars to its name than the entire country of Korea or anyone from it.
That’s odd and rather damning given the self-evident strength of the country’s national cinema, which has been invaluable since long before Shin Sang-ok’s “My Mother and the Roomer” was chosen as their first Oscar submission in 1962. It’s become only more visible on the world stage thanks to the emotionally operatic, auteur-driven melodramas that have defined the Korean New Wave over the last 18 years.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's get to what J.J. Abrams has to say about his cut scene from Rey's "Forceback" moment in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Comicbook reports that in the original scene, Rey was also supposed to see Luke and Vader fighting in Cloud City. Ultimately, this scene was removed as Abrams wanted it to feel "more personal to Rey":
"Touching the lightsaber triggers what we call the 'Forceback.' There were many iterations of this. In one, from the Cloud City Corridor, she looked down and saw Vader fighting Luke, which we ended up cutting. We wanted it to be a more personal story, something that she couldn’t comprehend,...

It’s Monday morning and the numbers are in: Suicide Squad dominated its opening weekend. The film did especially well with women. Almost as if ladies have been waiting for a female superhero/antihero character to be given top billing. Yes, Will Smith’s Deadshot is the main character of Suicide Squad, but you’d never know it from the Harley Quinn-centric trailers. Margot Robbie’s performance was one the film’s highlights for me. The actress was committed to showing Harley as a complex, damaged human being. It’s not her fault the script was written in six weeks and therefore both incoherent and gave Harley absolutely nothing in the way of a character arc. I thoroughly believe that in more capable hands, a Harley Quinn solo film could be fantastic and poignant. Warning: Suicide Squad Spoilers Beyond This Point. There are hints of Harley’s ongoing tragic entanglement with her abusive boyfriend,...

Avalanche used Gamescom 2015 to unveil brand new footage for their upcoming Just Cause 3, and it packs one heck of a punch. The trailer is simply titled “Burn It,” and features just over 90 seconds of the trademark carnage that gamers have come to expect from the series.
After a brief introduction via a new antagonist, the game’s hero – Rico – quickly appears and starts laying waste to General Di Ravello’s forces. Fans will get a welcome glimpse at the protagonist’s explosive arsenal or weapons, as well as some familiar gadgets like the grapple gun.
Expanded features like extended aerial sequences and environments that appear to be more destructive than ever will be immensely pleasing for any existing fans of the series, and may just turn the heads of a few newcomers as well.

The back half of “Sleepy Hollow” Season 2 got off to a shaky start last week, as Katrina’s terrible life choices continued to hamstring the group. But as much as we want to lay the blame at the feet of Ichabod’s wife, it’s hard truth time: the show’s been wobbly for all of the sophomore season. The show has simply gotten bogged down by its own weight. Too many plots, too many characters, not enough truly bonkers one-off villains and too little of the dynamic of Ichabod and Abbie that made the first season so much fun. You know it, I know it. Apparently even the writers know it, because “Pittura Infamante” cut away the festering romantic quadrangles and hand-wringing angst about Henry's soul in a (successful) attempt to right the ship. ******** For the first time in forever, **strains of “Frozen” soundtrack play in the distance**, the...

Over the years, Nickelback have slowly but surely replaced Creed as the most-hated grunge-lite band around. Hell, they’ve even eclipsed Limp Bizkit as a band folks just love to hate on. That may sound like a controversial, sweeping generalisation, but it’s largely true – just ask most of your friends if they’re Nickelback fans, and you’ll be met with either a smug look, or being forced to listen to them launch into a tirade about how much Chad Kroeger and company suck.
Unfortunately for almost everyone who claims otherwise, Nickelback simply cannot be given the, ‘they suck’ treatment. Again, controversial, right? Not quite – all those people who have lambasted the band over the years are the very same who say, ‘Oh man, I love this song!’, when one of their big hits comes on the radio, or just happens to be included on their iTunes shuffle playlist.

1999 seems so far away now. At the fag end of the millennium, it was the year that gave us Stanley Kubrick's posthumous final opus, Britney Spears's first album and Hugh Grant playing the iconic Time Lord in a Doctor Who Comic Relief special. That wretched song 'Blue' by Eiffel 65 was violating our ears. It also saw a micro-budget (reportedly $35k) film creep into UK cinemas on October 22 and change the horror genre forever. The debate rages on whether that was for better or worse.
The Blair Witch Project's financial rewards were huge, with the film grossing $10,931 for every $1 spent according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Yet its cultural impact was arguably more staggering. This lovable coming-of-age drama is one of the year's best releases but there's one sure way of spoiling the experience
Polite note to the marketing department at Universal studios: please take your Boyhood trailer and shove it where the sun don't shine. Burn it on a bonfire or bury it underground. There is no worse movie trailer than the Boyhood movie trailer.
Which is not to say that I dislike Boyhood. Quite the opposite: I love it to bits. Nor am I suggesting that your trailer isn't beautiful, because what else could it be? Richard Linklater's new film is purely ravishing, a painstaking coming-of-age drama that charts a Texas kid's journey from infancy to adulthood and was shot, at intervals, over a 12-year period, so that we see little Ellar Coltrane grow up on screen. Linklater's handling turns every time shift into a small epiphany. He conjures an airy,...

On this week’s Hump Day with Adam Lambert, Adam rules the Glee universe again, and Tweets a … cryptic message.
Adam has really helped revitalize Glee this season, and I hope when the show permanently moves to NYC, they’ll save him a place. This week’s episode bodes well, as he was actually part of the roommate drama, and had some nice scenes with Santana (Naya Rivera). And yes, I did let out a Squee! when Santana responded to Elliot with this:
Santana: “You need money? Maybe Auntie Snicks can help you out with that” #Glee
— therealSnicks (@therealSnicks) March 5, 2014
Adam was part of the two best musical numbers of the night. He teamed up with Rachel (Lea Michele) for a cover of Heart‘s classic “Barracuda.” This is another song tailor-made for Adam, and he crushed it, even if Lea seemed a little out of her comfort zone. But,...

Sing a song of Archer — a whole CD of them in fact. Cheryl’s previously released “Danger Zone” duet with pop icon Kenny Loggins will highlight the collection, which also features three new, unreleased songs original to Archer including It’s All About Me, I’ll Burn it Down and Gypsy Woman. We smell pyro... Country superstar Jason Aldean will hit the road with his 2014 Burn It Down tour starting May 1. The outing, which includes Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr, will alight in 50 cities, including stops at several baseball stadiums across the country, making Aldean one of the few country artists with an audience big enough to play stadiums. Stops include Washington, D.C.’s Nationals Park, Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park, Pittsburgh’s Pnc Park and Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park. “It’s no secret that I grew up dreaming of playing baseball stadiums, I just thought it would be as a first...

'Community' recap: In 'Repilot' and 'Introduction to Teaching' everything changes and stays the same
"Community" Season 5 was never supposed to happen. Shows with low ratings, no awards and a lack of obvious network love don't just get to come back. They definitely don't come back down one star and with a fired-then-rehired showrunner.
Somehow, however, that's exactly what happened. "Community" has returned for 2014 and begins with back-to-back episodes: "Repilot" and "Introduction to Teaching."
The setup
First thing you need to know: Some time has passed since the end of Season 4. Jeff has gone off to resume practicing law -- only now he's a "good" lawyer, vanquishing monster robots and such -- while the rest of the study group somehow managed to graduate from Greendale. They're all off working, leaving the study room to serve as an asbestos-laden file room.
It's too bad that nothing much is working out for Greendale and its alumni.
Jeff is going bankrupt and the school is about to be sued by Alan,...

Stop denying who you really are and all will become clear.
That turned out to be quite a challenge for the "Lost Girl" and her team as they wandered through the jungle in search of their lost boy on Once Upon a Time this week.
Peter Pan gave Emma the tools she needed to find Henry. Why not just show her Henry? Because this is all a giant game to him, and they need to play it by his rules.
But when Emma struggled with figuring out who she really was, I couldn't really blame Regina for resorting to magic to light their way. If it were my child, I'm not sure I could hold back either. Of course it didn't work. There always seems to be consequences when it comes to using magic.
Eventually Snow was able to help Emma look deep within herself and come up with the answer.

Côte d'Ivoire native Philippe Lacôte is making his feature film debut with a project titled Run, which was one of 15 projects selected for the Cannes L’Atelier - an initiative which runs during the Cannes Film Festival aimed at finding financing for projects by upcoming directors that are in an advanced state of development - last year (2012), when it first showed up on my radar. The film's starring cast includes Isaach de Bankole (likely the most familiar to American audiences; he's currently starring in Andrew Dosunmu's Mother Of George), Abdoul Karim Konate (he stars in Bamba Souleymane's Burn It Up Djassa) and Rasmane Ouedraogo (the...

The Strain: The Fall #3
Writer: David Lapham
Artist: Mike Huddleston
Colors: Dan Jackson
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Price: $4
A comic book about the end of the world via vampires, based on a book of the same. Sure, the books were written by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, but I’ve seen so many comic book adaptations of novels fail, my cynicism can’t help but feel a little bit justified. Issues one and two of the series were just good enough to avoid execution, much like the main characters of the series. But let’s see if they, and The Strain, can survive the third test.
The story kicks off with a really wonderful and terrifying...

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen "The Real Housewives Of Orange County: 100th Episode Special."
It's a historic day, America. Together, we forged a society in which a humble reality show, initially titled "Behind The Gates," permeated the pop culture consciousness and made it to this milestone 100th episode. To commemorate this dubious occasion, I'm going to recap the anniversary special in a manner that best reveals the bizarre appeal of these women: in their own (grammatically compromised) words.
Without further ado, I present the 100th episodes of "The Real Housewives of Orange County" in 100 sound bites. Woo hoo!

"He's pretty much keeping me." -Jo on Slade
"Don used to fill up my love tank, and now that love tank is depleted." -Vicki
"Who has a vibrator with a cord?" -Tamra

I sold my soul to Awolnation roughly two years ago once I saw Aaron Bruno’s music video for ”Burn It Down”. The video, which featured Sam Ronson and Willa Ford, epitomizes why VH1’s “Top 20 Countdown” and the slim amount of music videos shown on MTV should not become an extinct fad of the 80s and 90s. Developing imagery is key to popularizing a song and Awolnation has a knack for conveying just that. The outfit’s latest song,”Thiskidsnotalright” will be featured in the new video game, “Injustice: Gods Among Us”, which will be available everywhere April 16th. The video game’s soundtrack will be released digitally on the same day as [ Read More ]

A reminder for our New York readers... You'll notice several titles that have been discussed here on S&A, as well as names of talent, including Ousmane Sembène, who's being celebrated at the festival this year, with 2 of his films screening, as well as a documentary on him. Notables include Blue Caprice, Rengaine, A Hijacking, and Burn It Up Djassa. As usual, I'll return with any individual profiles of films we haven't already profiled. In the meantime, here's the full lineup via press release from The Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The 42nd Annual New Directors/New Films will take place from March 20–31. Tickets go on sale to the general public at Noon on Sunday, March 10, 2013. New...

Everything from street hustlers and school teachers to Nobel prize winners and Islamist extremists in a feast of African film
We have selected eight films from five African countries to look out for in 2013 – the year of the 23rd edition of Fespaco – the bi-annual pan-African film and television festival of Ouagadougou.
Burn it up Djassa by Lonesome Solo (Cote d'Ivoire)
Labelled "a film by the people for the people", Burn it up Djassa is about a young street hustler in Abidjan looking for a break. After shooting his first feature, Lonesome Solo escaped the war torn Cote d'Ivoire and has not been seen since.
Half of a Yellow Sun by Biyi Bandele (Nigeria/UK)
The adaptation of Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi-Adiche's Orange Prize-winning and bestselling epic, stars Thandie Newton and Chewitel Ejiofor. Nigerian investors contributed with 80% of the budget to fellow Nigerian director and writer Bandele's feature debut.

One of 30 features scheduled to screen in the Panorama section at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival... From Ivorian filmmaker Lonesome Solo (Bamba Souleymane) comes what is being described as "a raw, noir-tinged urban legend set to the cadence of slam poetry and the beat of street dance." Titled Burn It Up Djassa, the film has been proclaimed a signal of a new artistic film movement in Ivory Coast, one that will "bring back cinema to the street, to the real speak of folk... in the spirit of Italian neorealism or the French New Wave," as stated by the film’s director. The X Factor and The Voice have concluded their respective Season 2 and Season 3 installments, and with the celebratory confetti swept up and carried off to a Los Angeles-area landfill, it seems like the right time to do a post-mortem on how the reality singing competitions’ final results played out.
In this week’s Reality Check, my cohost Melinda Doolittle and I examine how The X Factor‘s Tate Stevens lost the battle of the Top 3 performance finale, but still managed to win the war. (Hint: An unfortunate duet between his arch rival and an embattled country diva probably helped his chances.

Grappling with a tortured relationship? Burn it to the ground. At least that appears to be the general idea in the new music video for Florence + the Machine's "Lover to Lover," which sees lead songstress Florence Welch stuck in an emotional wrestling match with an aloof lover (in the form of "Dark Knight Rises" thesp Ben Mendelsohn) and ultimately cleansing herself of the torment by building a cozy little bonfire in her front yard. Oh yeah, she also leaps into what appears to be a freezing-cold ocean to complete the "I'm better off without him" purification. (Is it just me,...

Justin Bieber may be Canadian, but he was the all-American boy at Sunday night's American Music Awards.
The pop singer dominated the awards show, winning three trophies, including artist of the year. His mom joined him onstage as he collected the award, beating out Rihanna, Maroon 5, Katy Perry and Drake.
"I wanted to thank you for always believing in me," Bieber said, looking to his mom.
The 18-year-old also won the honor in 2010. He said it's "hard growing up with everyone watching me" and asked that people continue to believe in him.
But the teenager who brought his mom as a date also got in some grinding with Nicki Minaj – who shared the stage with him and took home two awards – and a kiss on the neck from presenter Jenny McCarthy.
"Wow. I feel violated right now," he said, laughing.
"I did grab his butt," McCarthy said backstage. "I couldn't help it.

But another collaboration was the night's most colorful performance: Korean rapper Psy and Mc Hammer. Hammer joined the buzzed-about pop star for his viral hit "Gangnam Style." Psy rocked traditional "Hammer" pants as they danced to his jam and to Hammer's "Too Legit to Quit.

The rule in entertainment has always been that the show must go on, no matter what. And so the 40th American Music Awards will be live on ABC Sunday, Nov. 18, despite the death of the man who created the show.
This will be the first AMAs since Dick Clark's death in April, and Stevie Wonder, who worked with Clark back when he was still known as "Little Stevie," will perform a tribute.
The lineup for one of music's biggest nights is huge and runs across all pop music genres. The public votes for the winners, and some of the stars, such as Usher, Ke$ha, Carly Rae Jepsen and Linkin Park's lead singer tell Zap2it why this live awards show means so much to them.

British boyband One Direction may not have entered the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards with the most nominations, but they ended up having the most wins, taking home each of the three awards they were nominated for. In addition to taking home Best New Artist, the quintet picked up Best Pop Video and Most Share-Worthy Video, a new award this year meant to draw social media voting. Following close behind One Direction were Chris Brown, Calvin Harris, and M.I.A., each winning two awards for their respective videos. Brown earned Best Male Video and Best Choreography for his uptempo dance single "Turn Up the Music", while Harris picked up a solo award and an award for his collaboration with Rihanna and M.I.A. received two wins in technical categories for "Bad Girls".
