Decent slasher flick
serialslashers5 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Three couples in their late twenties/early thirties drive up to a huge property in the Mexican woods. Alejandra Espejo (who sadly died last year), is very good in the lead role. She's very likable. The rest of the cast is OK, although a couple of them are somewhat annoying. I'm not sure if this was made for video, if it was, the production quality is pretty good. The acting wasn't so good from the supporting actors, but it doesn't matter cause the plot moves along nicely. It has an OK body count. A couple are off screen, but we do get to see a beheading, an ax to the head, throat slashing and a severed leg. If it wasn't for the gore and one sex scene (no nudity though), this could be watched by the entire family as it doesn't have any strong language or profanity to speak of.

Very creepy Mexican Slasher with Evil Dead references.
insomniac_rod6 August 2006
This Mexican Slasher flick is highly underrated, probably, only a few have seen in even in Mèxico! I rented it back when it was released (of course, straight to video) and it was truly creepy.

The premise is somehow inspired by the "Evil Dead" series but this movie is a straight slasher. Three couples decide to go to a cabin in the middle of the woods for some pre-marital sex and party all the night. Unfortunately, "someone" or something is wandering in the woods and has plans for our unhappy campers.

The movie has some bizarre f/x as I remember and I remember some Lovecraftianesque references such as a flying head and bizarre references to evil spirits.

The gore is pretty good. There are some brutal death scenes that worth the watch. If you can find this movie please watch it although it's almost impossible to find it. Wait for it to air on cable.

Mexican slasher

Warning: Spoilers
Three couples - Silvia (Alejandra Espejo, who was 43 when she made this and supposedly playing a teenager) and Cesar (Andrés Bonfigliom, Grave Robbers), Tamara and Raul, and Laura and Adolfo (Andrés García Jr., Cemetery of Terror) - head to a secluded cabin in the woods - this movie's title translates to Forest of Death - a place where one of them, Sylvia, grew up. It's also where her mother drowned and her father siappeared. So if her friends start getting killed by someone in a raincoat, are we to even be surprised?

She also met Forest Ranger Jaguar (Jorge Reyonoso) back then and he's been in love with her ever since, even if she was ten and he was probably in his teens back before but let's just move on. He wants to protect his woods - he shoots a poacher with ammunition so powerful it blows his leg completely off - and her with equal fervor.

It takes an hour and with the last twenty minutes of the movie, this finally becomes a slasher. That said, it has an amazing moment where the killer throws a severed head through a window at two of the girls.

This take a bit long to get going and maybe stays too close to the American slasher formula but it is pretty competent. I just demand that Mexican films get completely out of control and blow my mind, like how Trampa Infernal has a killer who combines Rambo, Michael Myers and Freddy's glove into one ruthless murder machine.

Pretty good

Warning: Spoilers
Watched this on Satellite cable last night. I don't speak Spanish, but my husband does and he loves these flicks. Even though I didn't understand the dialog, the movie was pretty good.

Three couples on vacation and a caretaker are murdered one by one during a stormy night. One or two deaths were off screen, but the rest were on-screen. A guy gets his leg chopped off in the opening five minutes, a girl gets an ax to the forehead, another gets her throat slit, a guy gets his stomach slashed.

My favorite scene involves two terrified girls all alone in the cabin when a head comes flying through a window.
