A dutch movie on a typical? family. The start of the movie immediatly sets the atmosphere. Something is wrong for this family. The plot thickens and, unlike other other dutch movies, reaches its high at the end. A definite must-see, but don't read anythring about the plot.

At first I thought this was some sort of Dutch version of Festen, the story has major similarities with that movie, but when I saw this film that didn't bother me, because I was almost immediately drawn into the story. Granddad plans a reunion for the divided family in the Austrian Alps, because his wife hasn't got very long to live, and off course things go wrong between the family members... Pay attention to the sons under influence, very good acting.
And with some very memorable lines, like "Mother, please do us all a very big favor and please die as soon as possible".

Grandfather plans a small holiday in the snowy mountains. This movie is just covering arriving there, and the first night. It appears that grandmother is dying of cancer very soon.
Things should be said by now: We don't love each other (within this family)! That's when "l'aventura" starts.
A must see! If you like alcohol, you'll like this movie. If you like talking, the same. If you have problems with your close relatives, probably this will show you why and how.
The story is no fun, but worth looking at. Absolutely no fun, but done in a excellent way!

Breathtaking

Familie is one of those film that leaves you breathless at the end. Not because of the action sequences, or the mindblowing special effects, but because of its honesty. Familie shows a family that goes on a trip into the snow. During their stay all the family secrets will be revealed. This is a movie which looks at the other side of family life, not the sweet side commercials show us. If you see one movie this year, see Familie. It will change you forever.

It has always been the family that shelters us and gives breed to all possible conflicts. And of course the family carries the potentiality for real surprises. Great film ! Great cast ! Wish it will sell in other countries, too.
