The British director Guy Ritchie never finished school and didn't attend film school either but by the time he was 28 he was on his way to making cinematic waves. His short film The Hard Case (1995) attracted the attention of financiers and his debut feature Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) was a scrappy success. Sudden fame for new directors is usually somewhat invisible since it's their names rather than faces that get the publicity. Not so for Guy Ritchie. His rise went meteoric via a marriage to global household name Madonna before people had even really learned his name. They famously wore each other's new products on t-shirts; he pushed her album "Music" across his chest in 2000 as she paraded Snatch, his second film, around on hers.
The marriage soured but his movies got bigger and bigger if not always more successful. Like any regularly working director he's had both hits and misses.

(Hollywood Grind is a column that examines filmmakers working within the studio system to produce and/or distribute their work.) Guy Ritchie and Brad Bird hail from very different backgrounds, which is what makes it so fascinating to compare and contrast their approach to big-budget action scenes in their new movies, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, respectively. Born in the U.K. in 1968, Ritchie decided he wanted to make movies from a young age, skipped film school, and instead worked his way up in the world of music videos and television commercials. His 1995 short film The Hard Case, paved the way to Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, his feature directorial debut, and that led to Snatch. Both...

"Snatch" director Guy Ritchie has shut down his London pub to give the 260-year-old building a makeover. A-list stars and locals regularly flock to Ritchie's Punch Bowl pub in the British capital's Mayfair but its doors have been closed in recent weeks to update the Georgian establishment, which dates from the 1750s.
A message posted on the front door explains, "As this particular old lady has been around since 1700, we've decided to give her a brush-up. She will re-open very soon." Ritchie's revelers will be able to check out the pub's new look from Monday, November 1.
Professionally, several movies which are directed by Guy Ritchie include "The Hard Case", "Swept Away", "Revolver", "RocknRolla", "Sherlock Holmes" and its sequel "Sherlock Holmes 2".

June 30, 2010: English filmmaker Guy Ritchie is planning to make his next Sherlock Holmes movie in 3D. The director has even started work on the script and wants to appoint some of the crew members of James Cameron’s Avatar to create the 3D effects.
The director, who debuted with the 20 minute short film The Hard Case, had talked about this 3D effect dream earlier too.
Ritchie had said, “Despite my love for 3D, I am not sure whether a movie would work on 3D or not. Usually, the films which are turned 3-D did not appear good always. However, I am a geek as far as technological innovation.
