You can watch The Big Short on Max, Netflix, Apple TV, and Prime Video.

Director Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is loosely based on a true story. During World War II, Nazi U-boats are slowly cutting off the UK from desperately needed supplies and troops from the United States. As Prime Minister Winston Churchill faces increasing pressure to surrender to Adolf Hitler, he seeks a rather unique solution.
Churchill wants to secretly strike a West African outpost that supplies the Nazi submarines with critical supplies. Cut off their supply chain, and you can end Nazi dominance over the Atlantic Ocean. But to conduct an unauthorized military strike, he needs an unauthorized strike team.
Churchill and his loyal men, Brigadier Gubbins and Ian Fleming, recruit Gus March-Phillips out of prison to lead the strike. The rebellious, uncouth, and possibly mad Gus agrees to the secret mission, provided he can recruit his own team.
He assembles a group of rogues, misfits, and murderers...

Image created by “Shutterstock.AI” Matt Damon playing the skilled and troubled Jason Bourne? Seemed like a perfect fit when he got the role in 2002’s The Bourne Identity. He’d smashed it in Good Will Hunting and Saving Private Ryan. Ocean’s Eleven showed he could handle action as part of a crew. Strangely, though, the one guy who couldn’t picture Damon as Bourne was himself. As if relationships weren’t already so complicated, in Hollywood, it is a completely different level of mess. From lies to secrets to cheating scandals, every other fairytale couple in Tinseltown has been through that and more. Especially if it is a high-profile case, the whirlwind leaves a few rumors behind in the dust. The highly publicized Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt split is a great example of that, where Pitt was once linked with Fallout star Ella Purnell.

Calling all Latino filmmakers, John Travolta wants to work with you. Swinging by Panama to present his 1978 musical rom-com “Grease” at the 12th Panama International Film Festival (Iff Panama), Travolta professed his great love for “Mexico, Central America, South America, all of its parts.”

Mark Wahlberg has admitted he wasn’t entirely happy while filming Martin Scorsese’s 2006 film The Departed.
Wahlberg played Sergeant Dignam, who worked in the Special Investigation Unit of the Massachusetts State Police Department, in the Boston-set film, which also starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin and Vera Farmiga, among others.
“I was a little pissed about a couple things but look, it all worked out in the end, I think,” Wahlberg said on the March 14 episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“Originally I was supposed to play another part. Originally, I was supposed to get paid,” he said, without elaborating. “And then even when we kind of agreed that I would play Dignam and I saw the advantages of playing that part and how I would approach the situation with everybody else playing opposite me, I then had another movie after.

The third installment of the Sands: International Film Festival of St Andrews has set its slate, and that will include director Steven Soderbergh engaging in a conversation with directors Anthony and Joe Russo. I will moderate that discussion, which will touch on the preposterously unlikely way that Soderbergh discovered and godfathered the career of the duo that directed Hollywood’s all-time highest grossing film, Avengers: Endgame. The festival runs next month from April 19-21.
Soderbergh’s own career took off with sex, lies, and videotape, the film that just celebrated 35 years since the filmmaker turned Sundance into a lucrative independent film hatchery. It went on to win the Palme d’Or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, followed by Soderbergh’s first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. He has gone on to direct films as diverse as Traffic, for which he received the 2000 Academy Award for Directing—the...

Following the blockbuster success of Barbie, Margot Robbie is tackling another famous IP. As first reported by Jeff Sneider and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, a movie based on the popular video game franchise The Sims is currently being shopped to Hollywood studios by Robbie and her LuckyChap production company.
Kate Herrnon, who helmed the first season of Loki on Disney+, is on board to direct the film, and is also co-writing the screenplay with Briony Redman.
Similar to Barbie, The Sims has no real narrative or plot to go off of. Even so, studios no doubt have faith in Robbie, who, along with director/writer Greta Gerwig, turned Barbie into a billion dollar film franchise. A bidding war between studios and streams is unfolding as we speak.
As an added bonus, plenty of musicians are noted fans of The Sims, including Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, Japanese Breakfast, and Snail Mail,...

George Clooney’s renowned tequila brand Casamigos has managed to triumph over some notable celebrity alcohol brands, including Dwayne Johnson’s Teremana Tequila and Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin, in one significant metric that illustrates user interest and popularity.
According to a list shared by media brand Boardroom on Instagram, these businesses, alongside some other notable celebrity-backed alcohol companies, have raked in impressive search volume on Google.

However, outrivaling those numbers at the top is Casamigos, founded in 2013 by actor George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman. Since 2017, it has been owned by British multinational alcoholic beverage company Diageo. This is not an unusual feat for the tequila brand, as it leads several other reports with its stature as one of the best-ranking celebrity spirits brands.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

Amidst the acclaim that The Godfather received from all fronts, there was one influential critic of the movie — Frank Sinatra. The beef between Sinatra and the film began even before the start of filming. The singer and actor believed that one character in Mario Puzo’s novel, that of Johnny Fontaine, was modeled after him. On one occasion, Sinatra had a heated confrontation about this with Puzo where he threatened the author.
Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone in The Godfather
However, his threats on another occasion did not seem to bother singer Al Martino, who played the brief role of Johnny Fontaine in the film. In the end, all the efforts of Frank Sinatra to ruin The Godfather became futile as the movie became the biggest hit in Hollywood upon release.

Does Cat quit on Below Deck? It’s a question Below Deck fans can’t help but ask as Season 11 nears the halfway point.
Stew Cat Baugh hasn’t had the easiest time on Below Deck, even with Fraser Olender and Captain Kerry Titheradge working hard to ensure she’s good.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Below Deck fans have sounded off on the way Cat gets treated with kid gloves while Barbie Pascual takes heat from Fraser.
This week, we saw Cat call home and cry over not vibing with the St. David group.
Thanks to the previews for next week’s episode of Below Deck, the rumor mill is buzzing that Cat will quit the hit-yachting show.
After all, it certainly doesn’t seem like Fraser will fire her, despite Cat lacking as a stew.

After catching Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling’s charming banter at the Oscars, fans couldn’t help but dream about them teaming up for a movie. And lo and behold, The Fall Guy! With both the Barbie and Oppenheimer stars on board, it’s not just the only thing people should look out for. This movie is a rollercoaster ride of action and rom-com, ticking off every box on fans’ wish lists!
And although The Fall Guy was action-packed, Ryan Gosling did little to no stunts, thanks to his eight identical stunt doubles whom he chose to thank at a recent public appearance. The number of stunts made him feel like he was on an Avengers set, channeling his inner superhero!

A decade before Knight and Day was released, a movie like it would have killed with audiences: Come on, it starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and looked to perfectly mash humor and action in a way that so few male/female-led action-comedies had for years. Yet, it didn’t connect. But why? There are a lot of reasons, really, and not just, as Roy Miller would say, “one of those things.” Through lousy marketing, hokey promotion, poorly timed sneak previews, and even Katie Holmes, Knight and Day fizzled, less “beautiful dress” than beautiful mess…But it did at least inspire a Bollywood remake, so suck on that, Vanilla Sky! Let’s find out: What Happened to this Movie?!

The Ocean’s trilogy of movies is confirmed for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK, with a release pencilled in for the end of April: more here.
Steven Soderbergh’s trilogy of Ocean’s films – Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, Ocean’s 13 – brought together a starry ensemble cast for a trio of crime caper movies. Really successful ones at that, even if the sort-of twist in Ocean’s 12 continues to have a degree of Wtf did they really do that about it.
Ocean’s 11 in particular though is a an absolute treat, and there’s much to enjoy across the three films, which as coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK for the first time.

Jake Lloyd played Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace and left the limelight shortly after the film’s release.
In a new interview, Lloyd’s mother, Lisa Lloyd, updated the public on her son and dispelled rumors that had plagued the Star Wars community for many years.
Lisa talked to Scripps News and said her son was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2008 after struggling and talking about living in different realities, seeing people with “black eyes,” and mentioning having conversations with The Daily Show host Jon Stewart.
On top of that, Jake seemed to have a neurological condition called anosognosia, which causes a patient to be in denial about their symptoms.
“He didn’t think he needed to take medication because he wasn’t sick,” Lisa said. “He didn’t think he needed to go to the therapist because there’s nothing wrong with him.

Coleman Hough, who received solo screenplay credit on the quirky Steven Soderbergh-directed improvisational films Full Frontal and Bubble, has died. She was 62.
Hough died Feb. 24 at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, her friend Jennifer Romine told The Hollywood Reporter. She was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s when she was 42.
Full Frontal (2002), set in Hollywood and a film within a film, shot in 18 days using a consumer-grade digital camera and was the first produced screenplay by playwright and poet Hough.

The cast of Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller Black Bag expands today with Regé-Jean Page joining Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. Soderbergh directs from a script by David Koepp, with Caset Silver and Greg Jacobs producing. Focus Features is setting up Black Bag, with filming happening in London. Plot details remain a mystery. However, the film’s story is a spy thriller unfolding in the United Kingdom.
As The Hollywood Reporter pointed out in January, Soderbergh and Blanchett previously worked together on his 2006 noir thriller The Good German. Blanchett played a part in the film Ocean’s 8, as part of Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 franchise. Soderbergh produced Ocean’s 8 but didn’t direct that one. People starting the movie Spaceman would be forgiven for thinking that their Netflix had glitched. Yes, we do see Adam Sandler’s character Jakub dressed in a space suit. But he’s not floating through the cosmos. He’s walking through a wooded stream, the greenery of the trees and bushes reflecting off his mask.
What the heck does this have to do with being a space man, one might ask? By the end of the movie, directed by Johan Renck and written by Colby Day (adapting the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař), Spaceman answers all your questions. Or rather, Jakub’s new friend, an alien spider named Hanuš, explains everything in the gentle, dulcet tones of Paul Dano.
Spaceman‘s strange, but ultimately clear, approach may frustrate some viewers. It may excite others, leaving them wanting to watch more sci-fi movies with a surrealist approach. Regardless of...

Described as “Doctor Who turned up to Ocean’s 11,” The Omega Eleven #1 takes readers on an adventure to Camelot for a seemingly impossible heist in Merlin's realm, and with the first issue of the five-issue series now on Kickstarter, Daily Dead had the pleasure of catching up with writer James Aquilone and artist Zac Atkinson in a new Q&a feature to discuss their unique new take on a timeless literary character (and other familiar faces from public domain).
Thank you for taking the time to answer questions for us, James and Zac, and congratulations on the Kickstarter campaign for The Omega Eleven! How long has this comic book series been in the works, and were you both longtime fans of Doctor Omega (who some consider to be the inspiration for Doctor Who) prior to working on this series?
James Aquilone: We started working on this project about a year and a half ago.

It’s an interesting month on HBO and Max this March, as two acclaimed films hit the streamer along with some intriguing original programming.
First up in the movies arena is the streaming debut of Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. From beloved Paddington director Paul King, the film follows the adventures of a young Willy Wonka as he looks to become the world’s best (and weirdest) chocolatier. Later in March on Max, there’s also Dream Scenario, a highly-regarded comedy boasting Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, who suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams for unknown reasons, and who naturally becomes very famous as a result of this strange phenomena.
Series-wise, the biggest show on Max this month is The Regime. It packs a solid cast, including Kate Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant, and tells the story of “life within the walls of a modern...

When we delve into the filmography of Steven Soderbergh, it’s not just the slick heist sequences of Ocean’s Eleven or the gritty realism of Erin Brockovich that stand out. The director of Contagion has a knack for unsettling our nerves, often leaving us teetering on the brink of our seats. Let’s explore his top 5 spine-chilling movies that have etched themselves into the minds of thriller aficionados. The Psychological Maze of Side Effects 2013’s Side Effects is a labyrinthine psychological thriller that delves deep into the fears surrounding pharmaceuticals. Three members of Hong Kong Cantopop band Mirror feature in this fiendishly watchable crime caper which steals much from Ocean’s Eleven and, oddly, Asmr videos
Here is a very silly and yet fiendishly watchable heist thriller that features three members – Edan Lui, Anson Lo and Keung To – of the Hong Kong Cantopop boyband Mirror in major roles. That’s worth knowing not because they break into song at any point, but because that explains the film’s prepackaged feel and why at least one of the actors, Keung To, feels so weirdly miscast as a ruthless gangster. But as with much of the plot mechanics in this film, it’s best not to think too much and just roll with punches.

Ricky Gervais does not hold back when he makes jokes, and the reason why he has been chosen to host the Golden Globe five times is because he might say something wildly offensive and controversial that would steal everyone’s attention. Indeed, every time he goes up the stage, some of his jokes would land and some would miss.
Ricky Gervais in David Brent: Life on the Road
The Golden Globes monologue is one of the most highly anticipated parts of the event because not only it serves as an icebreaker but it also works as a commentary on the issues in the Hollywood industry.

In recent years, there have been a lot more people out there interested in cryptocurrency, wanting to know more about how it works and seeking out new methods through which to learn about its mechanisms. There are endless articles, blogs, educational videos, and even books on the subject matter. But one form of media still remains fairly unused in relation to crypto: cinema. That is, until recently. Directors and production companies are beginning to see the benefit of using digital currencies in their works, either through involving it in the plot or using it as part of a wider marketing strategy.

Warner Bros. really likes being in the Margot Robbie business. Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group has signed a multi-year first look feature film deal with Robbie’s production company LuckyChap Entertainment. It will make WB the first stop for any film projects Robbie wishes to produce through her production arm, which she runs alongside Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.
It’s no big question as to why. Robbie and Ackerley together produced WB and Mattel’s “Barbie,” which grossed $1.45 billion as the highest-grossing film of 2023, and went on to earn eight Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture.
But, not so fast, “Barbie” fans. That doesn’t a sequel is incoming. The announcement made on February 12 by WB film chief heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy doesn’t mention any specific projects just yet, nor does it stipulate whether Robbie would star in the films.
