Saturday night in Hollywood, “Survivor” staged a massive Emmys For Your Consideration event featuring perennial host Jeff Probst, past contestants, authentic challenges, and island-themed drinks and bites. With the recent death of Sonja Christopher still on the minds of fans, Gold Derby chatted exclusively with Probst about his thoughts on the first-ever contestant to be voted off of CBS’s reality TV show.
“Every time I saw Sonja,” Probst remembered, “whether it was on the first season when she was tripping in the first challenge and that kind of doomed her, or when I would see her at ‘Survivor’ events, she was always joy, always happy, always wanting to know how you were doing. And I thought it was pretty interesting that first season, that the first person voted out was Sonja, who had recovered from cancer and came with her ukulele just to have some fun — and then the...

Things are moving fast for the next installment of Survivor.
Just days after saying that there were no plans in place for the 50th season of the reality show, host Jeff Probst updated its progress.
During a Survivor Q&a event with EW Editor in Chief Patrick Gomez on Saturday night at the Ovation Hollywood complex in Los Angeles, Probst revealed that Survivor 50 (which will air in the spring of 2026) will feature all returning players.
“I just got an idea,” said Probst. “Survivor 50 is coming down the corner. The truth is, we really do focus on 47 and 48, that’s what we’re heading out to shoot next, and then we have to shoot 49. But we know 50 is coming, so I am curious, is there a feeling, should 50 be another season with new players and don’t make it a big deal?”
The audience yelled out no. Probst then asked, “Or should it be returning players?...

Everyone knows Boston Rob Mariano from his time on Survivor or The Amazing Race.
Now, he is the undisputed star of the new Deal or No Deal Island, but if fans read into his posting on Instagram, things may end for him on the show.
With just five contestants left, Rob could be going home at any time, but a recent Instagram post has fans speculating that either he is leaving or his best friend in the game, Aron Barbell, is heading home.
Rob took the young Aron under his wing in the game and met with him on vacation after they finished filming for Deal or No Deal Island.
If what Rob has posted means what fans think it means, it seems like this week is the end for one of them.
Even Rob tries to stir things up by asking, “What is this all about?” in his caption.

An original Survivor alum has passed away.
Sonja Christopher from the first season of Survivor has died.
Sonja was introduced to Survivor fans as a 63-year-old cancer Survivor from San Francisco. This was way back during Survivor: Borneo in 2000.
As part of the first Survivor cast, she was fun and known for strumming on her ukelele.
Unfortunately, Sonja was also the first person voted off Survivor, with the musician getting eliminated during the first-ever Survivor Tribal Council.
Her kindness shined through immediately, and it also led to an emotional response from host Jeff Probst when he had to snuff her torch.

Hunter McKnight’s final episode as a player on Survivor 46 aired recently, and the fan favorite has shared his thoughts on the season.
Only nine players remained after Tevin Davis got blindsided at a Tribal Council where Q Burdette caused chaos. And Hunter was the only person other than Tevin who had voted for someone else (they voted against Venus Vafa).
Venus was pretty ticked off that her name had been written down, and Hunter brushed aside her complaints. That might have been a mistake.
Some Survivor fans might argue that Hunter was already the biggest target left in the game due to how good he was at challenges.
Those same Survivor fans expressed anger and frustration when Hunter got voted out with an Immunity Idol still in his pocket.
Following his early exit on Survivor 46, Episode 9, Hunter has been answering questions about his time in Fiji.

Since its debut in 2000, hundreds of castaways have played the game of “Survivor.” While many have been injured on CBS’s reality TV show, no one has ever died during filming. Sadly, several former players have passed away since leaving the island. In our “Survivor” deaths photo gallery above, we take a moment to remember all of the people who we’ve lost over the years, including most recently Sonja Christopher of Season 1 fame. This week’s Deal or No Deal Island competition has whittled the number of contestants from thirteen to five.
Nick Grasso was eliminated in a fierce battle between him and Boston Rob Mariano, resulting in Nick taking the deal from the banker.
Nick leaving the game with $4,417,000 meant Rob stayed another week, and the Night Owls declared that everyone was playing Rob’s game.
Boston Rob Mariano is a reality competition show expert, having been on Survivor and The Amazing Race multiple times, and is the one to beat in the game.
As reported by Monsters and Critics, fans are upset that the so-called Night Owls target Rob and his friend Aron Barbell so fiercely in the game.
But now, some fans speculate that maybe the show is being rigged to favor Rob because so many fans have declared they won’t watch it if he is eliminated.

Hunter McKnight was voted out on the latest Survivor 46 episode.
During an episode where Hunter continuously said he was about to use his Hidden Immunity Idol, his safety seemed guaranteed.
But then Hunter didn’t use his Idol, the target shifted to him after a split vote, and Hunter was suddenly the third jury member.
It seemed like Hunter was on a trajectory to possibly win Survivor 46, especially due to how good he was at challenges.
Having found a Hidden Immunity Idol, Hunter could always fall back on that if he failed to win a challenge.
When Charlie Davis won the latest Immunity Challenge on Episode 9, Hunter should have been ready to use his Idol.

Many Survivor fans were frustrated and upset about Hunter getting voted out. But they weren’t just mad at the other castaways.

The Survivor social media folks shared footage from an older auction to excite fans about a new episode.
But the intent was only to show that popcorn would appear, and not to suggest that a Survivor 46 auction is coming.
As fans who tuned in to the April 24 episode saw, host Jeff Probst brought popcorn to the Tribal Council.
After the chaos from the previous Tribal Council, where Jeff was forced to sit and watch as many side conversations happened, Jeff came prepared this time.
To Jeff’s credit, he shared the popcorn with some of the Survivor 46 castaways, which served as a rare treat for some of them.
Liz Wilcox has many allergies that keep her from eating things like coconuts, so getting even a small popcorn snack was huge for her.
Sorry, there is no Survivor 46 auction
Anyone not paying close attention to the auction footage...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 46 Episode 9.] Idol this, idol that. Jeff Probst says that promising to play an idol is a big nothing burger in Survivor. His comments come after Hunter was eliminated in Survivor Season 46 Episode 9 with an idol in his pocket, despite having sworn to other players that he was going to play it for himself in tribal council that night. Promises like this, Probst says, are complete “nonsense.” Probst revealed his feelings about idol promises in the On Fire podcast released after Episode 9 aired on CBS on April 24. He told his co-hosts, Survivor fan Jay Wolff and Season 45 winner Dee Valladares, that he knows as much about what players are going to do with their idols as fans: “Nothing.” As the host and showrunner, however, he knows “who has an idol for sure.” In his 20+ years with the show, one thing is certain: “It’s extremely rare when a player...

On Wednesday’s ninth episode of “Survivor 46,” chaos reigned at the Nuinui camp as Hunter McKnight reeled from an apparent upheaval of his game at the previous tribal council. Hunter was left out of a majority blindside and without any allies he trusted or wanted to work with going forward. Then, after losing the immunity challenge, the group saw and seized their opportunity to get out the biggest challenge threat. Read on for Hunter’s “Survivor 46” exit interview from the end of the episode.
Last week, when Q Burdette effectively dismantled the alliance of six that he and Hunter were apart of, Hunter was left in a spot where he no longer wanted to work with Q and his other closest ally Tevin Davis was not out of the game. Hey, "Survivor" fans. Tonight, April 24, 2024, another new episode of Survivor's current season 46 did hit the air, and we saw another wild blindside send an unlucky contestant to the jury at the end of it. Tonight's new episode kicked off with more talk about the last tribal council meeting where Q asked everyone to vote him off, but they voted off Tevin instead. Everyone was wondering why Q asked everyone to vote him off. Q told the private cams, "I felt guilty for screwing up everyone's game by trying to flip the vote at the last minute." Tiffany told the private cams, "I'm pissed that Q told everyone I have an immunity idol. It's so annoying because I might have to play my immunity idol tonight. It's going to make me such a big target." Kenzie told the private cams, "Q should've just walked out of the game if he wanted to leave.

Heading into the ninth episode of “Survivor 46,” the remaining castaways had just said goodbye to fan-favorite Tevin Davis. That left nine people still in the game, three from each of the original tribes: Hunter McKnight, Liz Wilcox and Venus Vafa from Nami; Ben Katzman, Charlie Davis and Maria Shrime Gonzalez from Siga; Kenzie Petty, Q Burdette and Tiffany Nicole Ervin from Yanu. So which unfortunate castaway had their torch snuffed by host Jeff Probst this week?

“Survivor” celebrated its 40th season in 2020 with its most highly anticipated installment of all time: “Winners at War.” That cycle brought back 20 of the most well-known, cutthroat and savvy champions as they battled for a series-high prize of $2 million. Now, the reality TV show’s four-time Emmy-winning host, Jeff Probst, is starting to think about the future 50th season of “Survivor,” which is expected to film in Spring 2025 and air in early 2026.
“How do you top ‘Winners at War’? What is the idea that would be fun to do?” Probst recently told Entertainment Weekly. He then addressed the current lack of a Season 50 theme rather honestly, claiming, “I don’t know. We’re working on it, dreaming about it a lot. [We] don’t have the answer yet.”
Probst added, “Obviously, we think about it.” However, there are still three seasons to produce before then. “We still have 47, 48 and 49. And you might think I’m deflecting,...

As Survivor gets closer to Season 50, fans of the CBS competition reality series have been speculating what the format for the milestone season will be.
Host Jeff Probst recently revealed in an interview that producers have not agreed on an idea yet.
“We have not come up with our idea for 50 yet,” Probst told EW. “Obviously, we think about it, but I think it’s easier to think about it when you’re writing about Survivor rather than when you’re producing it.”
Survivor is currently airing Season 46, and the host previously mentioned that there would not be any returning plays until at least Season 48.
“We still have 47, 48, and 49, and you might think I’m deflecting, but I don’t. To me, those are stress-inducing problems,” he continued. “What are we going to do in 47? What are we going to do in 48? What are we going to do in 49?”

‘Survivor 46’ promo video: Q laughs about being ‘too hard to kill’ after surviving Quit-gate [Watch]
After last week’s “Survivor” drama in which Q Burdette begged unsuccessfully for everyone to vote him out at tribal council (something I’m lovingly referring to as Quit-gate), the 29-year-old real estate agent from Tennessee is now laughing about being “too hard to kill.” He’s one of just nine players left in the game as the ninth episode, titled “Spicy Jeff,” airs Wednesday, April 24 on CBS. Watch the “Survivor 46” promo video above.
The sneak peek clip begins with Q’s former Yanu tribe mate, Kenzie Petty, returning to camp after the “bizarre” tribal council. “Q tried to quit!” she tells the camera. “Everyone was so confused, but we had a plan to get out Tevin and we weren’t gonna let Q mess it up. If you want to leave, there’s the door, baby. Walk out — don’t make us do it for you.”

Jo Ann Ross, whose lengthy run as the head of ad sales at CBS represented a breakthrough for a woman in the traditionally male-dominated field, is formally winding down her tenure at Paramount Global.
In September 2022, Ross segued to an advisory role, becoming Chairman of Paramount Advertising as John Halley was elevated to President, overseeing day-to-day ad sales. On Tuesday, Paramount CEO Bob Bakish informed employees in a memo that Ross would officially exit the company next week after “having helped prime our sales team for another strong upfront season.”
Ross had been one of the few division heads from CBS Corp. to remain in charge after the company’s merger with Viacom closed in December 2019. Along with the merger integration, the next two years would present Ross and her industry colleagues with Biblical challenges in coping with Covid, which wiped out sports and production for months, not to mention wining-and-dining.

Deal or No Deal Island shared a reel of great Boston Rob Mariano moments on their YouTube channel, and everyone started talking about it.
Season 1 of the show is winding down, with only five contestants left to meet the banker, and Boston Rob is the breakout fan favorite.
The other contestants know it, too, since they have all banded together to form the Night Owls group against him and his buddy, Aron Barbell.
Each week, fans comment on social media that the night Boston Rob gets voted off means the end of their watching the show.
When NBC decided to air what they called Boston Rob’s Most Iconic Moments on Deal or No Deal Island, fans thought he was getting the boot off the island.

Survivor 46 is down to its final eight players following another blindside vote.
Q Burdette has created much chaos for the remaining castaways, even to the point he tried to quit.
As a reminder, during the previous episode of Survivor 46, Q was feeling antsy at Tribal Council after a plan to target Tevin Davis was exposed.
Despite Q working closely with Tevin and Hunter McKnight, he was still keen on blindsiding Tevin to help his game.
Tevin was voted out (8-2), making him the second Survivor 46 jury member.
Fallout will take place during the April 24 episode of the show, and the early sneak peeks show that drama is coming to camp.
Here is a bonus clip of the tribe choosing its name – for fans wondering how it happened.

Jo Ann Ross, the first woman to run a broadcast TV network’s ad-sales efforts and one of the last senior ad-sales executives in the TV industry to hold direct relationships with advertisers when primetime broadcast programs were seen as the primary venue for Madison Avenue’s dollars, is leaving the industry, stepping down from her role as chairman of Paramount Global’s ad sales division at the end of April.
Ross had already stepped back from day to day duties, ceding that role to John Halley, who was named president of ad sales for the company in 2022. But her relationships with key sponsors were seen as valuable, as were the ties many of her senior executives had with media agencies and marketing executives. She has stayed on at Paramount in a key advisory role.

So what was Quintavius “Q” Burdette thinking in the latest episode of “Survivor 46?” The preceding installment became evident that both him and Venus Vafa were spiraling with false overconfidence and overexposed gameplay, and they continued to double down in this episode, “Hide ‘N Seek,” the former especially in what was a lively and consequential tribal council. Yet once again, neither were voted out as tribal lines and alliances continue to be blurred and players start to gun for their allies. Let’s break it all down as a myriad of events transpired to lead up to a blindside in the eighth episode of “Survivor 46.”
Just like after the last tribal council, not wasting any time, Venus immediately exposed Tevin Davis in front of everybody for voting for her and proudly took credit for the blindside of Sodasia “Soda” Thompson, though it was revealed that Tevin’s vote for Soda was...

CBS has released a bonus scene from Survivor 46. It comes from when the newly merged tribe came up with its name and painted the flag.
This scene was filmed on Day 15 of Survivor 46 before Tevin Davis got blindsided by the next Tribal Council vote.
It’s a drama-free scene that could have been good within an episode, but many scenes hit the cutting room floor each year.
The video also reveals what each castaway chose to represent them on the flag, with one person going a different route from everyone else.
When comparing this flag to hang-painted efforts from the past, the Survivor 46 cast certainly stands out. It’s a fun one.

Survivor 46 castaway Maria Gonzalez hasn’t been featured in many confessionals this season.
In reality television, confessionals are the moments where a cast member speaks one-on-one with the camera.
These moments help bridge the gaps in the story of an episode and provide a unique perspective from the players themselves.
Fans may have noticed that Maria hasn’t been featured in many of them. Maria shared a graphic on her social media page breaking down the times of each player.
It might surprise some viewers to learn that five people who were already voted out have received more confessional time than Maria.
Are the producers giving her an edit to hide her gameplay until later on? Or is she not creating enough drama to command screen time?

Tevin Davis has been doing interviews following his time on Survivor 46.
It was during a chaotic Tribal Council that Tevin saw his game end.
Tevin said he felt safe heading into the vote. He had heard his name mentioned before but was sticking to the plan his alliance members shared with him.
As a reminder, Tevin was voted out on an 8-2 vote. The only people who didn’t vote for him were himself and Hunter McKnight.
But Hunter didn’t warn Tevin about the danger that was coming at the Tribal Council, even though Q Burdette told Hunter that the plans had shifted.
Should Hunter have done more to save the person he was working with as a duo? Or was that six-person alliance doomed from the start?

Survivor 46 has another chaotic episode in store for fans.
It will be difficult to top what happened during the previous episode when Q Burdette tossed a grenade during the Tribal Council debate.
Several plans for the vote had been tossed around, but Q then talked about falling on his sword and suggested that people vote him out.
Despite his willingness to be sent packing, the people working with Q had other ideas, and none of those ideas involved losing him as a vote.
Tevin Davis was eliminated on an 8-2 vote, with Tevin and Hunter McKnight as the rogue votes for Venus. It took the castaways down to only nine players competing for the $1 million prize.
