Charles Brackett ca. 1945: Hollywood diarist and Billy Wilder's co-screenwriter (1936–1949) and producer (1945–1949). Q&A with 'Charles Brackett Diaries' editor Anthony Slide: Billy Wilder's screenwriter-producer partner in his own words Six-time Academy Award winner Billy Wilder is a film legend. He is renowned for classics such as The Major and the Minor, Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd., Witness for the Prosecution, Some Like It Hot, and The Apartment. The fact that Wilder was not the sole creator of these movies is all but irrelevant to graduates from the Auteur School of Film History. Wilder directed, co-wrote, and at times produced his films. That should suffice. For auteurists, perhaps. But not for those interested in the whole story. That's one key reason why the Charles Brackett diaries are such a great read. Through Brackett's vantage point, they offer a welcome – and unique – glimpse into the collaborative efforts that resulted in...

Not the most royal request. Virginia Roberts, the Florida woman who alleges she was forced to have underage sexual relations with the Duke of York when she was 17, is coming at the royal once more. The royal family was in an appropriately solemn mood on Remembrance Sunday when they honored fallen soldiers in London. The Duchess of Cambridge stood next to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as they watched Prince Charles, Prince William, and Queen Elizabeth II lay wreaths at the Cenotaph on Whitehall in London. Pregnant Kate was careful with her actions on this Remembrance Sunday after she was the subject of bizarre criticism last year when she was seen twirling her curled hair at one point during the event. This year's event was important on two accounts - it marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I and the 70th anniversary of the D-day invasion in Normandy, France. All eyes were also on the queen, as she had reportedly recently avoided an assassination attempt after British police allegedly arrested a group of men who were planning on attacking her during the weekend-long Remembrance Sunday events.

The royal family is coming together to remember some of U.K.'s bravest and greatest. In honor of Remembrance Sunday, a day dedicated to commemorating the contributions of British military servicemen and women, Prince William, Kate Middleton and other family members attended a moving ceremony in central London for the departed. At 11:00 a.m. local time, Queen Elizabeth led the nation in a moment of silence that was followed by a gun salute. The Queen also laid the first wreath at the foot of the Cenotaph. Kate Middleton looked on as Prince William and his father Prince Charles also laid wreaths in tribute to the brave men and women who served in two World Wars and other conflicts. Wearing a...

Prince Harry has been talking longingly about how he misses flying. The helicopter pilot has been doing a desk job in London this year, focused mainly on bringing his Invictus Games for injured servicemen and women to fruition. But at a party on Friday marking the contribution of those who help to rehabilitate wounded warriors, he told guests he would like to return to flying one day. Speaking of Harry's reminiscences, Flt. Sgt. Lee Renard, a veteran of tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2006 and 2014, told reporters, "He said he enjoyed the flying and he missed it." Indeed,...

This week's Belle-centric Once Upon A Time story shows Rumple in an even worse light. Here's Kylie's review...

4.6 Family Business
After being mostly absent this season, Belle makes up for lost time this week in an episode that treats her to a level of focus unusual for any one character in Once. Belle’s episodes tend to be stronger than the average fare, and this one keeps with the trend. Though the plotting is rough in parts, there’s some good character development going on here, and that’s something we haven’t seen in a while.
In flashbacks we learn that Belle knows Anna—and knows some things about her that she’s afraid to admit. On a quest to restore lost memories of her mother, Belle travels to Arundelle and gains the Anna’s assistance in asking the rock trolls for help. Grand Pabbi...

Leading sales agent Cinema Management Group (Cmg) has announced that "Born To Dance," a fresh take on the hip hop dance genre, began shooting on Monday in Auckland, New Zealand.
The feature is choreographed by eight-time World Hip Hop Championships winner Parris Goebel, a faculty member of Monsters of Hip Hop, and recent star in her own right of "Step Up All In."
U.S. bombshell Kherington Payne plays Sasha, the female lead in the multi-million dollar feature. Kherington was propelled to fame with her top ten placing in the hit Us reality show So You Think You Can Dance, which led to a principal role as Alice in the 2009 remake of feature film "Fame." She was also the lead in E! Networks docu-drama The Dance Scene, and was a principal dancer for Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream tour.
"Born To Dance" is a coming of age tale told through the eyes of ‘Tu’, an ambitious young man from Auckland who dreams of being a professional hip hop dancer. When he is invited to audition for the best crew in the country, and meets their leading lady Sasha, his dreams begin to turn to reality.
Australasian superstar Stan Walker will play the role of Benjy, Tu’s best friend. Walker shot to fame when he won the first season of Australian Idol and has since cemented his stardom with multiple platinum albums, appearing as a judge on The X Factor New Zealand, and a leading role in the 2013 feature film "Mt Zion."
Tammy Davis will direct, following from his award-winning shorts "Ebony Society" and "Sonny, My Older Brother." New discovery Tia Maipi, a member of world championship hip hop crew The Royal Family, will take on his first major acting role playing Tu.
Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post are the post-production partner, while Vendetta Films will distribute in Aus/Nz. Edward Noeltner’s Cinema Management Group begin world sales at the upcoming Afm. Noeltner says:
“We are very excited to be selling this high energy, exotic and incredibly choreographed film to the buyers at Afm. We are confident this will pick up where the Step Up franchise left off, and we see this as the next international music and dance sensation with terrific worldwide box office potential.”

Towards the end of their meal, the first-time visitors to the pub chatted happily with some locals who approached them at their table, the Sunday Express reported. The King's Head...

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a trip to Belgium on Monday to take part in a slew of engagements to honor the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I. Kate Middleton and Prince William's first stop was at Le Memorial Interallie in Liege, Belgium, where they were greeted by Belgium's Queen Mathilde (whom Kate curtsied to) and King Philippe and later chatted with French President Francois Hollande. The couple also attended a lunch and reception at Mons Town Hall and stopped by a commemoration event at Saint Symphorien Military Cemetery, where they were joined by Prince Harry. William spoke at Le Memorial Interallie, where he commended the Belgian people's resistance to the German invasion a century ago: "The people of Belgium's people were gallant and courageously resisted. Your great sacrifice and contribution to eventual victory was critical. Belgium's commitment to honor the war dead continues to this day.

A year after they moved into Apartment 1a of Kensington Palace, the full extent of refurbishing the home for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has become fully known. The price, after $1.6 million was spent last year, has increased by another $4.9 million, the palace confirmed Wednesday, bringing the total so far to $6.5 million (adding in the cost of asbestos removal takes the figure to $7.2 million). Shouldering the bill is the U.K. taxpayer, via what is known as the Sovereign Grant, though the family, and in large part Prince Charles, were responsible for the fixtures and furnishings in the living section of the compound.

The Royal Family certainly is busy today, as both Prince William and Prince Harry are away on official visits in the UK.
The Duke of Cambridge and his stunning Duchess wife Kate Middleton showed up in Crieff, Scotland to tour a nearby distillery as well as MacRosty Park where they dedicated a Field in Trust.
One spectator named Heidi told local press, "I shook William's hand and apologized for having cold hands. He said, 'Don't worry—you won't be the only one today.' I asked him about George. I said, 'George is beautiful, and how is he doing?' He said, 'Thanks, he's very well. He's growing and he's a very good boy.'"
Meanwhile, Harry headed up to Ipswich, England where he took part in a soccer event as part of the Inspire Suffolk organization.

Tonight, on Fox’s new reality series I Wanna Marry Harry, 12 hot, young, British-history-adverse Americans will compete for the affections of Prince Harry! The catch? (Science!) Not to worry, though: In case you forget that Matt Hicks is just an impostor, the show helpfully identifies him as “Matt Hicks, Not Really Prince Harry.” Apparently, it’s all part of some benevolent master plan: “I...

This week, on Grimm: Wu faces his fears, Capt. Renard’s family is less than welcoming, and Juliette helps spread some Christmas cheer
Grimm gets a much-hyped two-part sendoff this week; unfortunately, the buzz winds up hampering the mood, sending the show off to hiatus with more of a pleasant smile than the bang many were likely hoping for. “Cold Blooded”, which is Grimm’s answer to the resilient legend of alligators roaming the sewers, is entertaining enough, but it’s rather disposable. As yet another Grimm standalone, this wouldn’t be particularly notable. As one half of the exciting two-part fall finale, it’s decidedly less satisfying. The concept is...

Review Dave Adamson 14 Dec 2013 - 21:05
With just two episodes to go in its first series, Atlantis continues to falter. Here's Dave's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.11 Hunger Pangs
This week’s Atlantis sees a poverty-stricken Jason stealing a loaf of bread to sate his hunger, clumsily escaping the clutches of the rightfully outraged shopkeeper, whilst dropping the bread into a trough of water. It’s a lesson to us all that theft is wrong, actions have consequences and even heroes that, at one point, could dine on their reputation cannot dine if they no longer have money.
That’s not the point of this week’s episode, however, the point is… Jason is buff.
Hercules is drowning his sorrows, whilst Jason returns home with meat… meat that was overseen by a many-faced statue that looks ominous and foreboding and should instantly have acted as a warning to Jason. The meat,...

The royal family of Arendelle is hiding a secret. The eldest daughter, Elsa, was born with a magical gift that allows her to create snow and ice simply through thought. She uses her power for playtime with her younger sister, Anna, but one day she causes an accident that almost kills the littlest princess. Troll magic is used to wipe the memory from Anna’s mind, and the castle closes its doors to keep Elsa separated both from the public and from her sister. Years pass, and the two now-grown princesses prepare for Elsa’s (Idina Menzel) coronation as the new queen. Anna (Kristen Bell) is excited as the event means not only more face-time with Elsa but also her first exposure to the outside world in a decade. Dignitaries and townspeople are invited in for the celebration, and it’s not long before Anna has met and fallen in love with a young prince named Hans...

The royal family paid tribute and honored the memory of British army personnel who lost their lives in conflict on Sunday, Nov. 10. Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry attended the annual commemoration, also known as Remembrance Sunday, in Central London at the Cenotaph war memorial. The Duchess of Cambridge looked svelte in a black coat, black gloves and a stylish black beret. She donned a poppy pin, which is a symbol to honor those who have died in combat. Prince George's mom styled her luxurious brunette locks in soft waves. She watched from a nearby balcony as her husband participated in the ceremony, and stood with Sophie, Countess of Essex and Sir Tim Laurence,...

A white jumpsuit with crocheted mesh sleeves. A sheer beige minidress. A bare-shouldered pomegranate pantsuit. Naya Rivera – who stars on Glee as out-and-proud lesbian ex-cheerleader Santana Lopez – tries on one red-carpet outfit after another at her stylist's Los Angeles loft, while a seamstress adjusts the clothes to be tight, but not obscene. Eventually, Rivera finds a red vinyl dress that can be transformed into shorts for a Halloween costume. "I'm going to be a sexy Carmen Sandiego," she says, referring to the title character of the long-running educational video game...

Long before Naya Rivera was on Glee, she landed a gig on the 1991 sitcom The Royal Family at the ripe age of four! Now, 22 years later, the actress is stopping by Arsenio Hall's talk show to revisit a childhood interview she did with Hall all those years ago. In a throwback clip from Rivera's interview at 4-years-old, Hall asks her, "You look beautiful, you could be a model. Would you like to do some modeling when you grow up?" The adorable pint size Rivera precociously quips back, "I did that!" causing the audience to erupt into laughter. Hall then asks, "Do you want to get married when you get older?" "No!" the now engaged-to-be-married star...

For those of you who think "Glee" was Naya Rivera's first gig, think again. Her role as feisty Santana Lopez on the Fox musical may have been the actress' breakout, but homegirls's been around a while. 22 years, to be exact.
While appearing on "The Arsenio Hall Show" on Wednesday (Oct. 30), Rivera was taken for a trip down memory lane as Hall revealed footage of her first appearance on his original late-night show -- when she was only four years old.
It turns out, Rivera was cast in the 1991 CBS sitcom "The Royal Family," starring alongside Redd Foxx and Della Reese, which only lasted 15 episodes after Foxx tragically suffered a massive heart attack on set on October 11, 1991 and died that night.
Before the show's sadly abrupt end, however, Foxx and Rivera sat down with Hall to promote their new comedy, where the sassy four-year old gave the host a piece of her mind.

Kate Middleton showed off her form - her volleyball form, that is - today at her first official solo event since giving birth in July. Kate sported skinny jeans, high wedges, and a familiar blue-and-white striped shirt to help support young athletes at London's Olympic Park for the charity Sportaid. The Duchess of Cambridge was beaming as she greeted kids and took to the court for an impromptu volleyball game. She even gave the crowd a peek at her amazing abs as she reached for an overhead hit. This is a far more casual event than her next duties. Her son, Prince George, will have his official christening next week on Oct. 23. The royal family has been gushing over Prince George, and the world anxiously awaits getting another glimpse at the precious little one. We haven't seen George since his official portrait with William and Kate, so we're looking forward...
