Classical gem of point'n'click adventure
enkephalin0720 June 2006
Detective buddies Sam and Max investigate missing freaks and embark on a nationwide scavenger hunt of tourist traps. Sam the dog is the more perceptive, investigative one, while bunny Max zealously employs muscle wherever possible.

The graphics may not be impressive today, but they were faithfully ported from the comics and made itself at home in the video game medium. The interface is pretty standard for the LucasArts games of the time, and pretty flat by today's standard. The game-play is seasoned at points with mini-games of Sam and/or Max's mad antics in pursuit of The Truth.

But because of the sheer wit, character and zaniness of the dialog, everything is worth clicking, and even the most fruitless actions are rewarding. The banter between the detectives are all quotable, no words are wasted at all. This is a very fun, funny, and memorable game. Get all your friends to play it and you can make character references that will always make you laugh.

Pretty old game but there are not much games with this kind of humer. The graphics are cool, not the graphics we are used to these day's. This is truely an golden oldy. The story is about two animal detectives, a dog and a rabbit who has to solve a crime. They travel trough america to find a lost circus freak en his beloved who works also i the circus. I think i like this game cause lucas arts makes such specific humoristic games that i love. Like in the humor in great movies only then in the games.

Classic. A Must Play for Adventure Fans

Wow, what a game! Great puzzles. Some of the funniest moments in video game history reside here - like the "Edu-tainment" interlude. Great music too; my favorite is the "world's largest ball of twine" song. On a great general midi card this sound WONDERFUL.

The only problem is that it's a pain to get this game to run anymore; it really works best on a DOS-only platform. But you can probably get it to work with some effort, and it's worth it believe me.

I have a question: WHERE IS THE SEQUEL!?! Could there be a more beloved universally liked adventure game?

A dry wit and a silly story
MrEricSir2 June 2004
Sam & Max is one of my favorite adventure games. Even though it's now quite old, and I was a young teen when I first played it, I still find the dry, sarcastic humor funny. It's perfectly in synch with my own sense of humor.

There are a few slow parts to Sam & Max, and parts of the game where the puzzles may be too aggravating to work out without resorting to a walkthrough. Don't think of it as cheating -- the real charm to this game is in its humor and silly storyline. For that reason I also recommend reading the comics the game was based on. I can't say I particularly enjoyed the short-lived TV show on FOX, but any diehard fan will watch it no matter what I say.

Although this game won't run on newer computers as-is, it's possible to play this game on Windows, Linux, Mac, PocketPC and even Dreamcast with an application called ScummVM. I highly recommend playing this game if you get the chance.

On the way home from buying Sam & Max I told myself that this was going to be the best and funniest game every. Boy was I right, the antics of Sam and Max are some of the best in any computer game. It will also provide you with hours on end of enjoyment from some of the best puzzles around. If you haven't played this game before your letting an absolute gem go, so don't miss it.

An adventure

I love these point-and-click adventure animated games. LucasArts really deliver with this delightful comedic adventure game. This is the story of two private detectives, an unlikely pair - a dog and a rabbit- Sam and Max. There's a lot of heart in this adventure game and also a lot of laughs to be had. The writing is great and the puzzles that are pretty fun. The characters are quite endearing and the story moves at a steady pace. The animation was pretty great for its time and the game plays out like a feature-length film. The voice acting is pretty superb. It's no surprise they made this into a series.

Fun adventure game

I loved Sam and Max Hit the Road! It's such a classic video game that deserves its own franchise in the tv and movie world. It centers on an unlikely police detective pairing of a dog and a rabbit out on the town to fight crime.

The graphics were great for its time. The comedy is dry but also innocent so that children can also relate to it. The characters are endearing in their personalities. They are well acted and the narrative is easy to follow but not simplistic at the same time.

I strongly recommend anyone watch/play this. It's got some great nostalgia for me as I played this well and truly back in the day. But the comedy still hits home even now.

One of the best adventure games ever

I got this game as a part of the first LucasArts Entertainment pack and I had absolutely no idea what it was. But when I got home and fired it up I fell in love. The game, as a whole, is filled with witty and incredibly sarcastic dialog and about a bajillion movie and game related in-jokes.

From the streamlined interface to the entertaining puzzles to such great minigames as Car Bomb and the Max's Wax Coloring Kit this game is a blast to play. If you haven't played it yet, I highly recommend you do. 10/10 on My Personal Scale.

You can't go wrong with this duo.

Any game in which a moleman, a vulgar telekinetic Arab handyman, a country music star, a bigfoot, a giraffe-necked girl, a no-nonsense detective dog, and his sadistic rabbit of a partner intermingle with hilarious dialogue, you have a winner. As with all LucasArts games, the veiled Star Wars references are there, and characters from other games even make cameos as highway rest area personnel. Still, the thing that makes this game what it is is the side-splitting dialogue. Since its almost 8 years old, you can buy a copy on CD-ROM for less than 10 bucks, or find it in LucasArts' first Archive Collection, in which you'll find other classics like "Day of the Tentacle" and the Monkey Island series, for less than 25.

Great adventure game for its time! Full of witty jokes by Max the rabbit, and full of baffling puzzles. This game took me long enough to complete, but I recommend it STRONGLY! 9.5/10!
