It is not as if I hate Golden Films, that couldn't be further from the truth. There are some that I do dislike but overall they are charming. A Tale from Egypt wasn't great for me, but it is not terrible either. I did think the music was great, the background music was fun and beautiful if perhaps in need of more authenticity and the songs are at least catchy and I could tolerate the singing which I couldn't in The Jungle King and Hercules. The lead character is also very likable. However, I didn't care for the animation quality, it all felt stiff and flat, while the script is cheesy with little I found involving or moved by and the rest of the characters are badly underdeveloped and stock. The story is a great idea but little is done with it. Little comes across as thrilling, and unusually for Golden Films, which are often exuberant, the pacing felt stodgy. On the whole, the voice acting is not a disaster like in Hercules but nobody stands out either. Overall, didn't enthrall me but I can think of much worse generally. 4/10 Bethany Cox
