Henry Fambrough, the last surviving original member of the great, hit-making R&b vocal group The Spinners, died yesterday at his home in northern Virginia. He was 85.
His death was announced on the group’s Instagram page. No cause was given, but the announcement notes that Fambrough died peacefully.
Fambrough, whose rich baritone could be easily discerned in the group’s signature vocal mix on hits such as “I’ll Be Around,” “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love?” and “One of a Kind (Love Affair),” formed the Domingoes, the group that would become the Spinners, in 1954 with his suburban Detroit friends Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson, C.P. Spencer and James Edwards.
Various personnel changes would take place over the next 20 years before the group settled into into what would be its classic and most successful five-man line-up with Fambrough, Henderson, Jackson, Bobbie Smith, and Philippé Wynne.

Attrakt Drags Former Fifty Fifty Members To Court As A New Legal Battle Unfolds! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Fifty Fifty’s debut ignited a fan frenzy that the K-pop world hadn’t witnessed since Blackpink‘s launch in 2015. However, the promising fourth-generation group, which originally consisted of Keena, Saena, Aran, and Sio, saw its downfall within a year due to members’ ill-fated relationship with their agency, Attrakt. In October, Seena, Aran, and Sio terminated their contract with the agency following a heated dispute that saw both parties drag each other to court.
The world was simply not ready for a rookie girl group to wreak havoc when indie label Attrakt released “Cupid.” Not only did the song climb the music charts, it became a TikTok anthem that internet couldn’t stop grooving to. With its historic surge on the Billboard Hot 100, Fifty Fifty was touted as the next big thing after NewJeans.

The 2023 VMAs are right around the corner, set to air live on Tuesday night, September 12, with many categories pitting some of the year’s biggest hits against some of the biggest fanbases in the industry. So who will win genre prizes for Best Hip-Hop, Best K-Pop, Best Latin and Best Afrobeats? Read on for a breakdown of each category.
SEESean ‘Diddy’ Combs will receive Global Icon Award at 2023 VMAs

Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” is an easy winner here. With the second season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" premiering on Paramount+ in mere weeks, now is a good time to rewatch the first season, including the memorable eighth episode, "The Elysian Kingdom," where the crew of the USS Enterprise finds themselves thrown into a literal fairy tale and embodying fantastical personas with no knowledge of their Starfleet selves.
The episode is enjoyable in large part because of the elaborate outfits the crew finds themselves wearing. The show's costume designer, Bernadette Croft, had a ton of fun creating new looks for the cast, including adding in a couple of Easter eggs to Pike's outfit.
"I chose a green fabric for his doublet, which was a subtle nod to the green-wrapped tunic," Croft told me in an interview about her work on the show. "He also wore a pin that represented that he was the king's advisor and First Hand.

"Xo, Kitty" - the sequel series to the "To All the Boys I Loved Before" films - follows Kitty (Anna Cathcart) as she spends her junior year of high school in South Korea, getting into all sorts of hijinks, romantic and otherwise. Zeus strips him of his immortal powers, giving him seven days to find and return the love potion. If Cupid fails, he will be condemned for eternity to his father Ares’ brutal bootcamp. Emilio Delgado, the actor best known for his beloved role as “Fix-It-Shop” owner Luis Rodriguez on “Sesame Street,” has died, his representative confirmed to Variety. He was 81.
“We are saddened by the news of Emilio’s passing,” Robert Attermann, CEO of A3 Artists Agency, said in a statement. “Emilio was an immense talent who brought so much joy and smiles to his fans. He will be missed by many and we know his legacy will live on. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, including his wife, Carole.”
A Mexican American born in California and raised in Mexico, Delgado got his start as an actor in the late 60s working in summer stock theater. His first ever screen credit was in the Mexican soap opera “Canción de la Raza.” In 1970, he enrolled as a student in the California Institute of the Arts. The summer before his second year at the school,...

“Cupid,” a 1996 ballad from the R&b group 112, is as gorgeous as it is jarring. It comes on like a lullaby, with feathery guitar and handsome multi-part harmonies. But step into the song and you’re entering a place where sweet nothings are not to be trusted. Suspicion rules, so requests come with wild caveats: “Girl when I ask you to trust me, that doesn’t mean that I’m gonna cheat on you.” Communication between the characters has clearly been poisoned, but 112’s delivery remains unerringly sweet and endearingly naive,...

The greatest love story on Insecure isn’t between Issa and Lawrence — despite the desires of some fans who would love to see them together again.
No, it’s the bond between Issa and her bestie Molly that matters the most, and that’s why their fight and breakup in Season 4 hurt so much. But that’s water under the bridge now, because these two have always lifted each other up — especially when no one else would. This certainly was the case in Sunday night’s installment of the HBO comedy titled “Growth, Okay?”

[Spoiler warning for those who haven’t seen Valentine.]
“The journey of love is an arduous trek,” a Valentine’s Day card reads in Jamie Blanks’ 2001 film, Valentine (based on the novel of the same name by Tom Savage), and while Blanks’ follow-up to 1998’s Urban Legend is a slasher movie, it’s a slasher movie only secondarily. Primarily, it’s a love story, and at its core are two kindred characters on that arduous trek: Jeremy Melton (later known as Adam Carr) and Dorothy Wheeler. Both so dearly want love. But both are so full of self-doubt. Both are stuffed with feelings of deep inferiority. And consequently, both rage against the society that refuses to love them back. So alike are these two forget-me’s that they are essentially the same person—so much so that it’s equally plausible that Dorothy is or could be the killer just as much as Adam. The two are mirror images of each other,...

I’m going to sound like a broken record this week with not one but Four Scott Jeffrey film currently on the slate for review. This, Cannibal Troll, is the second of the week and harkens back to the more basic era of Scott Jeffrey’s filmmaking – insomuch that this film is essentially a basic slasher movie retread with a troll as its antagonist rather than a deranged maniac! There’s also, given the use of the word ‘cannibal’ in the title, a nod to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, with the troll seemingly building a “family” of victims, not killing them – or eating them as the title would suggest – but rather having them around his home, keeping them alive for some (not clearly explained) reason.

Dave is a sap.
He's the kind of guy whose idea of an exciting date includes average pasta at an average restaurant, raving about it for hours.
It's no wonder he's no good at love.
Shane Nepveu plays Dave, a guy who, after he raves about the aforementioned average pasta, loses his girlfriend, Denise (Christine Turturro).
She dumps him when his dimwitted raving makes her realize that their relationship started without sparks, and it fizzled even more in the waning days.
Twelve months later, Dave still has a pic of him and Denise as the wallpaper on his phone, and his cousin, Morris (Briana Marin), has had enough.
Trying to get him out of the bubble of misery he's safely ensconced himself in will take a herculean effort, which is beyond even her commendable skill set.
Morris is the gal who races toward a party and easily becomes its life force.

Cupid striking between a man and machine or a Victorian romance during the zombie apocalypse, what sounds wackier? Some films are based on the most insane of ideas that seem weird at first, but end up as delightfully entertaining cinema.
Here are 4 such memorable movies with unbelievably zany plots.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Pride and Prejudice was an unabashedly feminist novel celebrating the importance of inner beauty over fake externals. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is all of that, but with one macabre addition.
A witty take on Jane Austen’s much loved book; this film introduces rabid zombies to the “prim and proper” world of 19th century England. What ensues is a rollicking journey that not only retains the charm of the original but also entertains us with a fresh and interesting storyline. Part zombie horror, part romantic comedy and a whole lot of fun, this Burr Steers...

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner… but not every TV couple deserves flowers and candy. Far from it!
Though television has given us plenty of swoon-worthy romances over the years, it’s also delivered quite a few duds. From the yawn-inducing (The Office‘s Andy and Erin) to the out-of-left-field (Friends‘ Joey and Rachel) to the downright wrong (Game of Thrones‘ Jaime and Cersei), there’s been no shortage of small-screen relationships that probably shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

Beware of cupid’s arrow. Justin Bieber unveiled a first-look photo for “Cupid,” his upcoming animated movie from Mythos Studios.
The image sees a cartooned Bieber, who will voice the god of love, on the side of a cliff with the sun setting in the background.
“Cupid” will tell the story of the eponymous mythical being and his love interest, Psyche. The role of Psyche has not been cast yet, but the character is human royalty whose beauty intimidates Cupid’s mother, Aphrodite.
Pete Candeland, a music video director and commercial animator, will helm the movie. “Cupid” is the first film in a planned universe based on Greek and Roman mythology.
Mythos Studios is a year-old content venture from Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and manager-mogul Scooter Braun.

Pop superstar Justin Bieber on Tuesday shared a first look at his animated screen persona as the title star of Cupid, the Hellenic musical epic currently in production at Mythos Studios in Los Angeles. Have a look below.
When Bieber shared the somewhat doleful image of his feather-winged archer with all 121 million of his Instagram followers it ushered in the public-facing portion of the Mythos Studios rollout that ranks among the most intriguing Hollywood start-ups in recent years.
Music video veteran Pete Candeland (The Gorillaz) is directing the animated musical about the famed god of desire from classical mythology. Far removed from the chubby cherub of St Valentine’s Day, the feature film’s Cupid is a winged archer with attitude — he’s charismatic but headstrong, no surprise considering he’s the offspring of Venus, the goddess of love, and Mars, the war deity.
No release date has been set.
