A good movie, but not as good as the first one

Die Musterknaben 2 is still a good movie, but it can't stand the comparison with the first one. Both main actors do a good job and there are still some good jokes, but there is not much suspense.

But it is still fun to watch it.

Warning: Spoilers
"Die Musterknaben 2" is a German film from 1999 and the number in the title already states that this is a sequel to a film with the same name. This one here runs 4-5 minutes shorter and is actually (unlike the first being a theatrical release) a small-screen production. Wroter and director Ralf Huettner returns and Dominic Raacke once again helped him with the script. And of course, the two lead actors return as well, namely Oliver Korittke and Jürgen Tarrach. And even if this one here could not repeat the awards reception from two years earlier, I still believe it is a more interesting watch. Most of the comedy writing here is clearly superior than the original and I felt that there were more than a handful scenes that put a smile on my lips. Actress Sophie van Kessel also did a really good job as the main antagonist (who sometimes seems like a friend of the duo) and you never really knew what was on her mind. Apart from that, she did really look amazing. Our two heroes, the chaotic cops, agreed and tried to court her on several occasions with hilarious moments of jealousy ensuing.

I did not feel that it was a huge problem that the Phil Collins story was a bit strange, but it was in a funny way that made up for it. And lets be honest, the Collins music was better than all the pretty bad rap music we heard on other occasions. Also the police references are not as frequent in here anymore as the two do not really have to deal with serious crime in here and it's good that this movie took much more of a comedy path. I believe that you should really check it out. I enjoyed the watch from start too finish and even if really great moments and amazing storytelling do not exist in here, it is still one of the cases where the sequel is way improved compared to the original. Not too sure if I will watch the third (and final) film anytime soon, but I do hope that they level did not go sough again for that one. Until then, watch "Musterknaben 2" and if you love Harald Schmidt as much as I do, this will be even more rewarding.
