Avatar: The Last Airbender is heading into its second season with its third showrunner at the helm.
Showrunner Albert Kim, who replaced creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, is also exiting the Netflix live-action series. Co-executive producer Christine Boylan and exec producer Jabbar Raisani — both of whom were hired by Kim — will take over as the drama’s third showrunners for the previously announced second and third seasons.
Sources say Kim’s intention was to lay the foundation for season one of Avatar: The Last Airbender after stepping in for the beloved franchise’s creators. Given the long turnaround time in crafting the series — Netflix ordered it in 2018, the creators left in late 2020 and the show didn’t debut until February 2024 — sources say Kim was ready to move on to new opportunities.

However, a mere six months before his death, Perdomo was under a lot of controversy over his life’s choices, specifically those that were related to his social media activity. In fact, this is even said to have affected his connection to The Boys spin-off series, considering how he was cut off from the show’s promo following his online cancelation despite being one of the lead actors in it.

I am of that age that still thinks the 80s was 30 years ago and that the 90s just happened. Strange as that logic is, there’s nothing like movie anniversaries to pull me back into reality. Last episode we looked at In the Mouth of Madness and its impact now going strong 30 years later. That flick though, like most of John Carpenter’s catalogue, was something that was already out when I started my movie journey. I had already seen it on VHS and on TV from time to time which puts it in another category altogether. Move ahead just 5 short years to 1999, one of the greatest years in cinema history, and we start getting that 25 years of existence that puts that nice existential crisis right into my gut. Today we are going to look at one of those movies that probably isn’t considered a traditional horror movie but is absolutely horrific in nature.

Will Jeffrey Jones appear in Tim Burton’s hugely anticipated Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
That’s the question on the mind of eagle-eyed fans of the upcoming Warner Bros. film’s trailer, who noticed a glimpse of the actor on a headstone in a funeral scene. But a rep for Jones confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor does not appear in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The funeral is attended by Catherine O’Hara (playing Delia Deetz, second wife of Jones’ Charles Deetz in the original film), Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz, Charles’ daughter with his first, deceased wife) and Jenna Ortega (a newcomer to the franchise, who plays Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s teenage daughter).
In Beetlejuice, Charles is a big-city real estate developer who buys a Connecticut home after the previous owners — the Maitlands, played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis — die in a car accident.

Stating that Tim Burton loves B-movie horror is a little like saying the grass is green and the sky is blue. The director has spent his entire career paying homage to classic Hammer horror pictures and low-budget genre fare, from his blood-drenched, practically black-and-white "Sleepy Hollow" and "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" adaptations to his gleefully bizarre alien invasion flick "Mars Attacks!" and his biopic about the grandaddy of cult camp cinema, "Ed Wood." Seeing as his 1988 hit "Beetlejuice" draws inspiration from many of those same influences, it's only fitting that his long-awaited sequel, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," tipped its hat to them directly with its alternate title.
An earlier iteration of the movie, titled "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian," entered development in the '90s and would've very much embodied what audiences expected from Burton in that decade (which is to say its screenplay was strikingly unruly and more than a little horny). "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,...

Halloween Ends may have killed iconic slasher Michael Myers off on the big screen, but there’s really no stopping a successful horror franchise. Last October, Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films secured a deal with Miramax Television to develop and co-produce a Halloween TV series… and one person who would be interested in working on the show is Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers director Dwight H. Little, who has racked up a lot of TV experience since his days of working on Halloween 4. There’s also another Halloween project Little would like to work on and has even pitched: a direct sequel to Halloween 4 that would see the return of Danielle Harris and Ellie Cornell as Jamie and her foster sister Rachel!

Netflix has earned a lot of goodwill from animation fans thanks to its rather successful live-action adaptation of "One Piece." Now, the streamer is hoping to cash in on that with its next big live-action remake of a hugely popular animated show: "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
Like the original, Netflix's "Last Airbender" is a fantasy epic set in a world where people can control one of the four elements, but only the Avatar can wield all of them. The show follows Aang (Gordon Cormier) as the titular Avatar, a 12-year-old who has to learn to master the elements in order to stop the evil Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim) from conquering the world. Thankfully, he isn't alone. Along for the ride are Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley) -- as well as Fire Nation prince Zuko (Dallas Liu), who vowed to capture the Avatar to reclaim his honor.

Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is one of the most beloved American animated shows ever. This is a show that voice actor Mark Hamill once considered "too smart" to be a success, yet it was not only successful enough to get three seasons, it also got a popular sequel series. "The Last Airbender" gave young audiences an anime-inspired show that told a serialized story while still having standout standalone episodes. It introduced kids to a vast and rich fantasy world with lore and history on the level of big franchises like "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings."
It also managed to end on its own terms, with a masterpiece of a series finale that paid off details planned from the very beginning, without giving fans a clean and overly explained ending. The sequel, "The Legend of Korra," doubled down on the complex themes of "The Last Airbender" and used complex...

October has been a pretty exciting month: we celebrated our 250th episode of the podcast with Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, then tackled one of Jason Voorhees’ best entries with Friday the 13th Part 2 before getting real serious with Bryan Singer’s Apt Pupil.
We’re closing out the month with a seasonally appropriate film: Rob Zombie‘s 2009 return to the Halloween franchise, Halloween II. Important note of distinction, however, we’re talking about the Unrated Director’s Cut.

Who doesn't love David Fincher? I did not love "Mank." But I still love David Fincher, and I know you do too. However you feel about that last feature, it's been a while since Fincher had a real consensus banger, and that's the kind of film he's known for. Viewers loved his Netflix series "Mindhunter", but hey, that's television, and Fincher only directed seven out of 19 episodes. Could "The Killer" slingshot Fincher back to the top of the American auteur pyramid, knocking the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Soderbergh, Gina Prince-Bythewood, or any of his other Gen X competitors off the top spot?
That remains to be seen. But we do have a new trailer for the film, a follow-up of the trailer Netflix released way back at the end of August. There have been more developments than the mere release of a second trailer since then, too. People have seen the movie.

But just because Disney+ is free from blood-and-gore extravaganzas doesn’t mean it can’t scratch your spooky itch. In fact, far from it! There is a pretty robust amount of Halloween (and Halloween-adjacent) fair on Disney’s direct-to-consumer platform, including a bunch of new stuff that was recently added and so many classics, for every age group. Here are our choices for the very best Halloween movies and shows on Disney+ right now.

Amazon MGM Studios proved triumphant in what was the industry’s latest IP bidding war, this one for the rights to adapt Glossy, about the millennium beauty brand and its female founder Emily Weiss. The book, from journalist and author Marisa Meltzer, became an instant New York Times best seller when it was released in early September. Per multiple sources, Pet Sematary’s Lindsey Anderson Beer and her production company Lab Brew are attached to produce what’s expected to be an ongoing series at the streaming service, should it move forward.
As The New York Times Book Review described Meltzer’s roughly 300-page book, Glossy is “a compulsively readable narrative of beauty, business, privilege, and mogul-dom.” It goes inside the beauty company that built a cult-like following for must-have products with names like “Balm dotcom” and “Boy Brow” – and changed the...

There are certainly plenty of movie and TV ghosts we don’t want haunting us. The murderous ones boxed up in the glass house of THIR13EN Ghosts? Absolutely not. Slimer from Ghostbusters? He’s a friggin liability. Sleepy Hollow’s Headless Horseman? No, we need our heads, we’re using them for important stuff like overthinking and retaining the lyrics to “Baby Shark” for whatever reason. And god forbid Pipes ever gets past the door.
There are, however, notable pop culture ghosts that wouldn’t make our lives considerably worse. Perhaps they’re genuinely helpful, and wouldn’t be too much of a bother to have hanging around. Or, and we don’t mean to lower the tone, maybe they’re just really, really hot.
The Den of Geek team have decided who they’d prefer to haunt them below. Have a read, then sound off in the comments!

Spooky season is in full swing, which means plenty of movie fans will flock to Tim Burton’s beloved seasonal classic “Sleepy Hollow.” But not the director of the new upcoming movie adaptation — filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer is intentionally steering clear of the Halloween classic.
Beer’s “Pet Sematary” prequel just landed on Paramount+ and next up, she’s set to re-team with Paramount to write, direct and produce a new retelling of the beloved American ghost story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
“Whenever I’m adapting something, if it’s been adapted before on film, I don’t rewatch the movies. I you just can’t,” Beer told TheWrap. “I didn’t while making ‘Pet Sematary,’ I just kept re-reading the books. And it’s the same thing for ‘Sleepy Hollow.’”

The character of Lina in The Conference, played by Katia Winter, is well-rounded, having a strong voice of her own. Her individuality makes her stand out from the rest of the people at her office. The actress is known for the significant roles she played in award-winning series like Dexter and Sleepy Hollow. Streaming on Netflix, the Swedish film has been directed by Patrik Eklund, and it is worth mentioning that even in a gore thriller, the director has been able to shape the character of the protagonist quite well. The Conference can be compared to other gore slasher films like Wrong Turn, Final Destination, The Babysitter, and others. Lina dares to question the injustice that her company has caused to a farmer and his family by uprooting from their land. This costs her some ugly stares from her colleagues. How she manages to find proof of the wrongdoing and...

Autumn and horror naturally pair well together. The cooling weather, changing leaves, pumpkin patches, and, of course, Halloween ensure that, for the horror fan, it’s difficult to separate the two. This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to horror movies that embrace an Autumnal atmosphere, with many set around Halloween proper.
These picks leave off some of the more prominent Fall horror movies, like Sleepy Hollow (Max) or The Blair Witch Project (Paramount+), to pad your watchlists with less obvious choices.

Guillermo Del Toro often says that a filmography is actually a biography for the filmmaker involved, but in the case of Lindsey Anderson Beer, her filmography doesn’t come close to telling her story.
Beer is currently making her feature directorial debut with Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, a prequel to Stephen King’s classic horror novel Pet Sematary (1983) that explores Jud Crandall’s (Jackson White) backstory and finally defines the Timmy Baterman (Jack Mulhern) story that has only been alluded to in various on-screen adaptations. The Paramount+ film originally began as a prequel to 2019’s Pet Sematary, however, once Beer came on board to write and direct, Bloodlines instead morphed into a prequel to King’s book.
“I was actually not trying to tailor it to the 2019 film. In my head, it’s a prequel to the book,” Beer tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I was just trying to do my own thing,...

What a sexy delight Erotic Thriller Month has been! In writer/director Alain Guiraudie‘s French gay thriller, Franck (Pierre Deladonchamps) frequently visits a nude beach, cruising for anonymous gay sex. Remember how saying Betelgeuse's name in "Beetlejuice" three times allows you to summon Michel Keaton's titular freelance bio-exorcist? It turns out a similar rule applies to the sequel to director Tim Burton's 1988 supernatural comedy classic. After plans for a follow-up titled "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian" were abandoned in the early 1990s, a second go was made at reviving the project with writer Seth Grahame-Smith. That iteration also fell apart, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on how you feel about Grahame-Smith and Burton's big screen re-imagining of the bizarre cult soap opera "Dark Shadows."
Warner Bros. finally succeeded in its third attempt at getting "Beetlejuice 2" off the ground, pairing Burton, Keaton, and the other returning "Beetlejuice" cast members with Burton's "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega and creators/writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The film was making steady progress, too, at least until the dual...

Doja Cat has been unleashing her demons all summer.
The Grammy-winning artist released the third single from her forthcoming Scarlet album on Friday, and brought in Nineties scream queen Christina Ricci to help usher in the accompanying music video.
Like Doja’s recent work, the visual for “Demons” is a stunning flex of macabre with homages to 1982’s Poltergeist and that one unforgettable, truly terrifying bathtub scene from The Shining. Ricci — who’s played Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family, Katrina van Tassel in Sleepy Hollow, and more recently, Samantha Hanratty...
