B.R. Chopra found Salma Agha, a total newcomer to Bollywood, and trained and launched her as the heroine of Nikaah.
Filmaker B.R.Chopra and music director Ravi came together with this film after 9 years (after Dhund) Ghulam Ali sang a song for this film. Writer Dr.Achala Nagar was introduced in this film.
Amrita Singh's mother Rukhsana Sultan tried very hard to influence B.R.Chopra to sign Amrita Singh for the film. Chopra was on the look out for a fresh face and had already told Zeenat Aman she did not suit the role. Finally Chopra discovered Salma Agha and signed her. This angered Sulatana to no end. This is when Salma Agha started getting harassing and threatening letters and phone calls. The letters warned Salma to return to London or face dire consequences. Salma decided to ignore the warnings and remained in India. The letters were finally traced back to Amrita Singh. But by then she had already signed Betaab and no charges were filed.
Raj Babbar was upset with Salma Agha being all over the films publicity. His pictures were in the corner of the poster. He told B.R.Chopra he was very upset with this and felt under appreciated.
Salma Agha's voice was rejected by the music director, Ravi. However, B.R. Chopra convinced him to alter the composition and scale of the film music to suit her voice.
