It’s been a long wait for Invincible season 2. Ever since father-son duo Nolan and Mark Grayson signed off in a symphony of bloody violence in early 2021, fans have been clamoring for more superheroic action. Now the time has finally come as Invincible season 2 is set to premiere its first episode on Nov. 3 on Prime Video.
While Invincible and Omni-Man naturally take up a lot of the attention for this very good Amazon series, let’s not forget the rest of the expansive cast of characters that make up the world created by comic writer and show producer Robert Kirkman. Like any good superhero saga worth its salt, Invincible has a very deep bench of compelling heroes, villains, aliens, civilians, and more.
The bench is so deep, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of everyone. With that in mind, here is a helpful refresher on...

Around this time last year, fintech company Karat Financial put out Supernova, a Shark Tank-y series where founders pitch their companies to a panel of investors–all of whom are YouTubers and TikTokers.
Now, due to the “incredible response” to Supernova, it’s launching an angel investing program that’ll introduce creators interested in investing to companies that want their money.
“The program was built on this insight we had that creators have a need to figure out ways to extend their longevity and their time horizon,” Shubha Raghvendra, Karat’s Head of Product, tells Tubefilter. “What we found is that there was a host of creators out there that, in many cases, have more capital than they know what to do with.”

Aidan Bissett latest single ‘Sick‘ is here. He co-wrote the song with Captain Cuts’ Ryan Rabin and Benjamin Berger, the latter known for Walk The Moon, Bebe Rexha.
‘Sick‘ is a celebration of meeting somebody who’s who’s authentic in the midst of a town replete with pretenders. That cause for celebration is beautifully reflected in its upbeat tone and buoyancy.
The video is directed by Brooke James and was filmed in the beautiful surroundings of Malibu, an ideal representation of the high spirits expressed in the track. While it’s great rocking out with the guys, Bissett grows increasingly aggravated by their escalating antics and drifts over to the one person who stands out in the crowd.
Aidan Bissett will be headlining the tour on October 13th at Voodoo Room in San Diego. He will also play Crowbar in Tampa (October 20), Racket in New York City (October 26) and...

Harry Macqueen’s Supernova, which makes its world premiere bow at the San Sebastián Film Festival next week, is a film founded in contrasts. A simple, intimate love story that follows a middle-aged gay couple, Sam and Tusker, on a road trip through England’s Lake District as they get to grips with Tusker’s diagnosis with young-onset dementia, its title nevertheless hints at the huge existential war the two are waging to preserve their love as illness threatens to tear them apart. Its two central performances from stars Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci eschew declarative moments of grandstanding dialogue in favor of quieter moments of painful reflection, and yet it still promises to ensconce both performers firmly into this year’s awards conversation for the power of its emotional gut punch.

U.S. actor Dillon’s second outing as a director after “City of Ghosts,” “El Gran Fellove” is a Dillon passion project, announced back in 2015. The doc feature centers on Cuban musician Francisco Fellove, a leading light of the jazz/Cuban bolero ‘Filin’ movement which expanded from Cuba to Mexico in the 1950s. It will play at San Sebastian as a special screening.

Lockdown viewers are hot for his cocktail-making skills, and cineastes await Supernova, a buzzy romance in which he stars opposite Colin Firth. Until then, here are Tucci’s top turns
Stanley Tucci plays Maestro Cadenza in this recent version of Beauty and the Beast, a florid and neurotic musical star who, at the beginning of the film, is transformed into a harpsichord, while his wife, played by Audra McDonald, is mortifyingly turned into a wardrobe. A cartoony cameo-sketch playing on Tucci’s gift for uptight, diva-ish roles.

Most film festivals take a couple of days to get started properly as people travel in from around the world, but by Friday morning the Glasgow Film Festival was in full swing. So this month I’d wanted to showcase something featuring Angela Bassett, who isn’t strictly a horror icon, but has some great roles in the genre, most recently starring in several seasons of American Horror Story, including Coven, which many consider to be the best of the series. But then something happened. I watched her 2000 film Supernova, and I realized about ten minutes in that I was watching a movie so miraculously inept that I just had to take you all on a journey about how a movie that cost anywhere between $60–90 million to make wound up looking like a rejected pilot for the Sci Fi channel. And I can tell you with certainty that it’s not even a little bit Bassett’s fault, but one that I’m more than willing to put squarely on the shoulders of director Thomas Lee.
The premise is actually pretty promising,...

Without fail, at the start of every year, there’s a lot of chatter about how January is the prime dumping ground for “bad horror,” and I gotta tell you, it really bums me out. Sure, there will always be misfires released in any given month of the year, but as a whole, I love the month of January for horror, simply because it seems like for every dud, there are a few films that really swing for the fences, and you just never know what you’re going to get. And that’s the kind of stuff that keeps me going as a horror fan.
At some point in time, January got the reputation for being a wasteland for film releases of sorts, but even back during the 2000s, we were still getting a smattering of quality genre films during that month: Walter Hill’s Supernova in 2000, The Mothman Prophecies...

“Supernova,” a romance starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci as a longtime couple on a road trip, has inked a raft of early distribution deals after having just wrapped a six-week shoot in England’s scenic Lake District.
The Bureau Sales has sold Harry Macqueen’s new feature to territories including the U.K. (Studiocanal), Germany and Austria (Weltkino), Japan (Culture Entertainment), Benelux (Cineart), Taiwan (Catchplay), Penny Black (Airlines) and Scandinavia (Scanbox). The Bureau Sales will shop the film further at Afm next month.
The movie marks actor Macqueen’s second feature as a director following his highly regarded debut, “Hinterland,” in 2014. “Supernova” centers on Sam (Firth) and Tusker (Tucci), partners of 20 years, who are traveling across England in their old Rv visiting friends, family and places from their past. Since Tusker was diagnosed with early-onset dementia two years ago, their time together is the most important thing they have.

Marissa Meyer finishes what she began with Renegades in Supernova, an epic & emotional conclusion to Nova and Adrian's superpowered story.

It's no secret that it's a great time to be a fan of superhero storytelling. The biggest, most expensive movies in the world are about superheroes, and we're getting to a point in comic book adaptation culture that even some of the medium's more obscure characters are making their way onto TV screens.
But we don't talk enough about how the trend has spilled over into fiction. From Sarah Kuhn's Heroine Complex series to V.E. Schwab's Villains series to Lauren Shippen's recent The Infinite Noise, there are increasing examples of character-driven superpowered stories in the literary world and, like all media, there are ways in which this...

Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy this new episode of The B-Side, from The Film Stage. These aren’t the films that made them famous or kept them famous. These are the other ones.
From strong early work in masterpieces like Boyz n The Hood and Malcolm X to her recent work in Netflix’s Otherhood and Fox’s television show 9-1-1, Angela Bassett has done it all. Here we focus on Kathryn Bigelow’s Strange Days, Wes Craven’s Vampire in Brooklyn, Walter Hill (er Thomas Lee)’s Supernova and John Sayles’ Sunshine State. It’s an eclectic foursome that reflects Bassett’s dynamic range.

Damion Hunter in ‘Last Ark.’
For every actor who works consistently and achieves varying degrees of success in the screen industry, there are many more, like Damion Hunter.
Since graduating from Waapa in 1995 and Nida in 1998, the Indigenous actor has appeared in episodes of numerous series including Harrow, Redfern Now, Supernova, Farscape and All Saints as well as the miniseries Devil’s Dust and movies Wyrmwood and Around the Block.
Not enough, however, to sustain a viable career, so he retrained as a high school teacher in 2012 after working as a teacher’s aide in 2009.
He now teaches English and history at a college near his home in the Northern Rivers of Nsw and he has a sideline as a hip hop artist, but he has not abandoned acting.

Over the last couple years, Ray Lamontagne has been staging Just Passing Through tour, an acoustic run where the songwriter has been performing stripped-down sets that have gotten rave reviews: “His face was barely visible, shadowed under his newsie cap and a bright white light that shone down to a dark stage,” one read. “From the moment Lamontagne began to sing until his very last note, the audience was held captive by his voice.”
Today, the songwriter announced 30 more dates, beginning October 11th at Providence’ Rhode Island’s Providence Performance Arts Center.

With March in full swing, we have another big batch of horror headed home this week that genre fans should keep an eye out for, including one of my most anticipated releases of the month: Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition of The Craft (so excited to call the corners with this new Blu-ray!). Beyond that, we have even more great titles to get excited about, including the criminally underseen Kolobos from Arrow Video, Man’s Best Friend, featuring one of my favorites—Ally Sheedy—and Nicolas Pesce’s Piercing, which features some brilliant performances from the likes of Mia Wasikowska and Christopher Abbott.
Other Blu-ray and DVD releases for March 12th include Garden Party Massacre, She Wolf, The Greasy Strangler: Special Director’s Edition, Lifechanger, Silk Scream, and The Wild Pussycat.

Hey,Riverdale and Luke Perry fans. Today is a very sad day as we've just learned that the current Riverdale Fred Andrews and former Beverly Hills 90210 Dylan McKay star Luke Perry did not recover from the massive stroke that he suffered this past Wednesday morning, February 27, 2019. According to the folks over at TMZ, Luke sadly passed away earlier today, March 4, 2019 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California. TMZ was able to get some information from Luke's rep. The rep told them that Luke was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. TMZ supplied some other details about what happened during Luke's stroke. He was responsive and talking when the EMTs arrived to take him to the hospital. Madrid — Chilean Manuela Martelli’s “1976,” Argentine Maximiliano Schonfeld’s “Jesús Lopez” and Cuban Marcos Díaz Sosa’s “Obra de choque” have all made the cut of Proyecta, a movie project showcase which represents one of the major innovations at this year’s Ventana Sur, Latin America’s biggest film-tv market and co-production meet.
Though, two weeks and more out from Ventana Sur, buzz still has to build on many new projects in the section, there’s also a good word on Andrew Sala’s “La barbarie,” Natalia Lopez Gallardo’s “Supernova” and Colombian Jennifer Yuribe’s “Sandra” – and curiosity to learn more about Uruguayan Aparicio Garcia’s “Matufia” after his one-of-kind debut earlier this year, the grindhouse rural mobster comedy “La noche que no se repite.”

Los Cabos, Mexico — This year’s Los Cabos Festival couldn’t have gone much better for editor-producer Fernanda de la Peza. Two films she is producing participated in the Works in Development section, Amat Escalante’s “Estado del Imperio” and Joaquín del Paso’s “The Hole in the Fence,” the former winning the Ctt Exp & Rentals post-production award and the later the Ctt Exp & Rentals + Chemistry Award, one of the competitions weightiest prizes.
De la Peza started her career as an assistant director, but is best known for her work in editing. In fact, she won an Mexican Academy Ariel for editing on Amat Escalante’s Venice competition winner “The Untamed.”
While her workload as a producer has increased, she has no intentions of cutting back on editing. “I really love the combination of these two jobs,” she told Variety. “I think editing gives me a particular vision towards production,...
