There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

In 1986, The Rolling Stones released the album Dirty Work. The title was fitting. Making the album was a dirty, painful process that left the band furious with one another. For Keith Richards, Mick Jagger was the primary problem. He was working to promote his debut solo album, She’s the Boss, and shirked his responsibility to the band. As a result, Richards wrote several songs about his stormy relationship with Jagger.
The Rolling Stones released an album at a low point in band relations
After over two decades of working together, Richards’ relationship with Jagger reached a breaking point. Jagger prioritized his solo album above Dirty Work, which the Stones’ guitarist found unforgivable.
“By the time we gathered in Paris to record Dirty Work in 1985, the atmosphere was bad,” Richards wrote in his memoir Life. “The sessions had been delayed because Mick was working on his solo album, and now he was busy promoting it.

Keith Richards and Mick Jagger have had their issues over the years, but Richards’ frustration over Jagger’s solo career threatened to break up The Rolling Stones. The guitarist resented the fact that Jagger prioritized his solo music over a Rolling Stones tour. It didn’t help that he flat-out disliked Jagger’s album. In his memoir, Richards disparaged his bandmate’s album. Here’s the surprising reason he compared it to Mein Kampf.
Keith Richards openly disliked Mick Jagger’s solo album
While The Rolling Stones worked on their album Dirty Work, Jagger simultaneously promoted his debut solo album, She’s the Boss. Richards found this frustrating, at least partly because he didn’t think the album was worth it.
“Mick’s album was called She’s the Boss, which said it all,” he wrote in his memoir Life. “I’ve never listened to the entire thing all the way through.

Chevy Chase has spent most of his showbiz career trying to end his career.
The tall, seemingly affable comedic actor was the first breakout star of NBC's "Saturday Night Live," and left before the conclusion of the series' second season to pursue movie stardom. He met with instant success in "Foul Play," "Caddyshack" and "Seems Like Old Times," and, despite the occasional flop, proved to be a relatively reliable star throughout the 1980s. But the star struggled with substance abuse issues and often rubbed his collaborators the wrong way. When he returned to host "SNL" in 1978, his smug demeanor provoked a physical altercation backstage with Bill Murray. While hosting "SNL" during the 1985-86 season, he wondered aloud to Robert Downey Jr. why his father's directing career "went to hell." John Carpenter had a miserable experience directing Chase in 1992's "Memoirs of an Invisible Man," which, like most of the star's output during that decade,...

His wife Cathy shared the news through a friend on Facebook, writing, “It is with the greatest sorrow and sadness that I let you all know John passed away this afternoon … I had heard him over the past few weeks having lengthy conversations with many of you and you brought such joy to him … Thank you all for your heartfelt messages. One of his favorite quotes was, ‘All that you can take with you is that which you’ve given away.’ From reading your messages, I know he gave much away and so much love was sent to him. For a certain set of music fans, The Rolling Stones have always included Ronnie Wood. The guitarist wasn’t one of the band’s five original members, but he is one of the longest-serving. And he might have to consider himself lucky. Wood’s confidence during his tryout for the Stones made drummer Charlie Watts crack a good-natured joke. Having the mild-mannered drummer open up might have helped Wood achieve his long-held professional dream of joining The Rolling Stones.

Would “The Sopranos” finale have been as impactful if it hadn’t included Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’”? And what would “Grey’s Anatomy” be without its frequent use of the Snow Patrol song “Chasing Cars”? Since 2017, the award has served the purpose of honoring the people who enhance TV shows by incorporating existing songs into episodes and thus stirring up viewers’ emotions.

After six months of impressive needle drops on various TV shows, eight songs resurfaced because of their noteworthy use in various series (along with one blockbuster film). Typically, film soundtracks are attributed as the medium with the grand use of hits from every decade. But in 2022, it’s been the TV that helped classic songs resurface and reach high streaming numbers and downloads, according to Tunefind. Whether the repeated success comes from the scene-stealing songs such as Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” or social media’s adoption of the songs such as Steely Dan’s “Dirty Work,” these classics dominated the charts.

David Spade revealed in a recent profile in Esquire magazine that his longtime collaborator Chris Farley expressed interest in reuniting for a third feature film together about two months before his death. Toward the end of their runs on “Saturday Night Live,” the two comedians joined forced to headline the 1995 buddy comedy “Tommy Boy.” Although the film was not a box office hit (it grossed only 32 million worldwide), it became a bonafide cult classic thanks to its home video release. Spade and Farley quickly reunited a year later for “Black Sheep.”
“Two years after ‘Tommy Boy’ came out, they told us it made 100 million on video. We couldn’t believe it,” Spade said. “It really grew over time. We talked about doing another one, but Farley wanted to do more drama, so I said, ‘Go do that.’ I ran into him two months before [he died] and he was like, ‘Everyone always...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the first seven episodes of “Euphoria” Season 2.
Despite the immense popularity of HBO’s “Euphoria,” clearing a song for use in the show isn’t as easy as it may appear — especially when it comes to legacy artists and estates.
As music supervisor Jen Malone puts it, the teenage drama series has “sex, nudity, violence, drugs, guns. There’s not one thing that was missing as far as red flags for approval parties.”
And yet the first episode of Season 2 kicks off with Billy Swan’s cover of “Don’t Be Cruel,” made famous by Elvis Presley. The song plays as the grandmother of Fezco (Angus Cloud) struts into a strip club, walks in on a man receiving oral sex and shoots him in both legs. So how did Malone convince Presley’s estate to let the show use the song?...

In addition to its enchanting visuals and heart-racing plot, a huge element to the experience of watching Euphoria is the music that plays in the background. Producer Labrinth gained popularity when the show aired in 2019, with the artist’s unique soundtrack memorable for its emotion-inducing, experimental style. Loops and snippets of the Euphoria soundtrack became top-trending TikTok sounds in no time. When news broke on Tuesday that Norm Macdonald had died, comedians, actors and writers took to social media to mourn and remember the life of the famed “Saturday Night Live” alum. Macdonald died of cancer at age 61 after a private struggle with the disease.
Macdonald was best known for starring on “Saturday Night Live” in 1993 and his anchoring “Weekend Update” until early 1998, when he was replaced by Colin Quinn. He gave dry, sardonic and memorable impressions of Burt Reynolds, David Letterman, Larry King and Quentin Tarantino and more during his five-year run on the show. During his career, he was also a writer on “Roseanne,” created “The Norm Show” with Bruce Helford on ABC and appeared in movies and shows like “Dirty Work,” “Billy Madison,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Dr. Dolittle,” “The Orville” and more.

Norm Macdonald, the deadpan comedian, actor, writer and “Saturday Night Live” star, has died after a battle with cancer, Variety has confirmed. He was 61.
Macdonald privately battled the disease for almost a decade. “Norm was an original! He defined American humor with honesty and blunt force,” Jeff Danis, president of Dpn Talent and one of Macdonald’s reps, told Variety in a statement.
Dozens of comedians, including Seth Rogen, Jon Stewart, Ron Funches and Jim Gaffigan, paid tribute to Macdonald, “one of the greatest comedians to have ever lived,” on social media.
The comedian got his start in showbiz as a writer on “Roseanne” in 1992 after making rounds at comedy clubs in Canada. He joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in 1993, and the next year, began his memorable stint as “Weekend Update” anchor until early 1998, when he was replaced by Colin Quinn. Questlove likes to joke that when he first fell in love with the Rolling Stones, it was with all the “wrong” albums. Instead of long-celebrated classics like Aftermath, Sticky Fingers, or Exile on Main St., his favorite records were It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll, Black and Blue, Emotional Rescue, and Undercover, among others.
“How ironic that I’m talking to Rolling Stone right now,” he says while reflecting on the impact that the late Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who died this week, had on him. “To be a nine-year-old,...

Space Jam: A New Legacy premieres on July 16. will find LeBron teaming up with the Looney Tunes in a Warner Bros. IP-extravaganza. James Gunn debuted a second trailer for his upcoming DC film The Suicide Squad less than a week after premiering the R-rated trailer. The clip, the film’s official theatrical trailer, features new footage, including more from King Shark, voiced by Sylvester Stallone.

Although Donald Fagen and Walter Becker certainly did not write “Dirty Work” with the idea of it being about reluctant mercenaries — let alone costumed antiheroes and anthropomorphized sharks — the song’s theme of reluctant conscription somehow perfectly and comically fits the “Suicide Squad” concept. That helps explain why the 49-year-old album track suddenly found itself as one of the most-searched songs of the day after the trailer for the franchise’s first sequel hit the web.
The song appears at length throughout the trailer, with the original electric piano- and horn-driven version from Steely Dan’s 1972 debut album “Can’t Buy a Thrill” bookending the mayhem. In the middle of the coming attraction, though, appears some freshly minted music more akin for a superhero or action movie… which quickly morphs into a “Dirty Work” on steroids, before things settle back down again at the end.

Warner Bros. has debuted the first full-length, R-rated trailer for The Suicide Squad, DC Comics’ second attempt to adapt the superhero franchise for the big screen. The film arrives in theaters and HBO Max on August 6th.
The new Suicide Squad sees the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. But with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn helming this film, the franchise has taken on more of a Seventies action movie feel.

The first actual trailer for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is here, and it’s drastically different from its cinematic predecessor. Stylistically, it has plenty of Gunn’s hallmarks, drawing on some of the most obscure, quirky characters in the DC Universe, it’s plenty violent, it’s got a cool tune and it’s certainly less shy about things like profanity than the director was allowed on his Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel Studios.
But the biggest surprise doesn’t come in John Cena’s Peacemaker expounding on his willingness to eat as many penises as liberty requires, and it’s not Idris Elba’s Bloodsport in some really cool battle armor, or Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn misbehaving just as Harley should. Nor is it in the reveal of Peter Capaldi’s Thinker, or even the wonderful CGI creation of King Shark (who appears like...

It’s late September, and Keith Richards is back at work after a six-month pause. He boasts that his temperature clocked in at 97.8 degrees (“I’m chilling,” he says) when he arrived at Manhattan’s Germano Studios to resume work on the Rolling Stones’ next album. “I realized coming into the studio yesterday that I was in this room in very early March, and we were just doing what we were doing and the next day, shit hit the fan,” he says with a big laugh. “So yesterday I had that déjà vu feeling.

In celebration of the Rolling Stones’ upcoming No Filter Tour (purchase tickets here), as well as a special shoutout to Mr. Mick Jagger on his 76th birthday (July 26th), we decided to round up some of our favorite Rolling Stones merch floating around the internet. Formed in 1962, the Rolling Stones led the charge of the British Invasion that took the U.S. by storm in the mid Sixties. Unlike some of their contemporaries, the Stones were hard-hitting, passionate, loud, rebellious and in your face. And fans around the globe have loved it ever since.

In 1986, the future of the Rolling Stones was uncertain. Instead of hitting the road for the band’s new album Dirty Work, Mick Jagger went out as a solo act. So Keith Richards did something he’d always resisted: He started a new band. The guitarist gathered a group of friends he called the X-Pensive Winos and holed up in a Quebec studio to cut Talk Is Cheap, which mixed Memphis soul, reggae and early rock.
“I wasn’t under the pressure of the Stones,” he says. “It was a lot looser.

During the mid Eighties, the relationship between Keith Richards and Mick Jagger hit a historic low, as Jagger tested solo waters. “Mick started to become unbearable.” Richards wrote in his 2010 memoir Life. You could hear the rift: 1983’s Undercover and 1986’s Dirty Work often sounded like lackluster attempts at keeping up with the times.
So in 1988, Richards took advantage of time off in the Stones’ schedule and went into the studio with a crack band he dubbed the X-Pensive Winos, including guitarist Waddy Wachtel, keyboard player Ivan Neville and drummer-producer Steve Jordan.

Since any New York City cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

Nick Jonas has released his latest post–Jonas Brothers single, "Levels," and while it's none of that Taylor Swift–approved chin music, it's kind of a banger? That's, of course, if you can tell it apart from Austin Mahone's equally '80s synth-inspired dance track "Dirty Work," and also ignore that Meek Mill coined "It's levels to this shit" two years ago. Brace yourselves, we've reached Nick's Michael Jackson phase. Awkward dance moves still to come.
