Completing our trio of exclusive interviews with the stars and director of Spiders 3D, comes an interview with Patrick Muldoon, a man known to many as Zander Barcalow from Starship Troopers. It’s rare that a television character literally goes out with a bang, but — spoiler alert — that’s precisely what happens to Gustavo “Gus” Fring, restaurant owner by day and drug kingpin by night, on the season four finale of AMC’s masterful Breaking Bad. It is a moment no less shocking than the one in The Wizard of Oz in which the Wicked Witch of the West melts away, but one that elicits quite different emotions once it sinks in. Everyone wanted the Wicked Witch to be eliminated; after all, she had tormented Dorothy and her little dog Toto, among many others, and it was about time. Gus, too, was a character who tormented the lives of those around him, particularly the show’s protagonist Walter and his sidekick Jesse. But when Gus finally gets his comeuppance, the reaction among viewers is not...

*Full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Sage Bannick.
Director: Sage Bannick.
Writers: Ari Bernstein, Damon Abdallah, and Sage Bannick.
The Absent is 4/10 high school drama, 4/10 slasher and 1/10 psychological thriller. Releasing on DVD March 15th through Passion River, The Absent is an eighty minute challenge upon the attention, with some tension coming from a teacher/student interplay. You see, Vincent is a science teacher with a crush on a young student, named Katie. Soon, characters are dying and motivations are not fully realized. An indie film with passion and ambition, The Absent just never becomes compelling.
Director Sage Bannick has stated that this film was shot in ten days: "on a shoestring budget." So right out of the starting block, this film is rushed. Most films require at least two weeks, excluding re-shoots. A film just cannot rise to any excellent quality, with such a short shooting schedule.

[1] Mark Romanek may not be in the top tier of feature directors just yet, but among music video directors, he's an icon. Remember the dark sultriness of Fiona Apple's "Criminal" video? Or the controversy surrounding Nine Inch Nails' "Closer"? How about the heartbreaking intimacy of Johnny Cash's "Hurt"? Those are just three of his best-known works. Romanek's other musical clients include artists as varied and notable as Madonna, Weezer and Jay-z. Revisit those videos and many, many others in this video of higlights by Romanek fan Nino Del Padre after the jump. [via Movie City News [2]] Watching these videos, it's obvious Romanek has a gift as a visual storyteller. He has an impressive flexibility that allows him to do vibrant and upbeat just as compellingly as he does still and uncanny. Romanek's won numerous awards for his work, including Grammys for Michael & Janet Jackson's "Scream," Janet Jackson's "Got 'Til It's Gone,...

London, Oct 18 – Rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers (Rhcp) are considering taking legal action against British pop star Diana Vickers over similarities between her new track and the band’s classic ‘Under The Bridge’.
The chart newcomer, who became popular in her native Britain after starring in Simon Cowell’s talent show ‘The X Factor’, recently admitted she had decided against changing the chorus of her new song ‘My Wicked Heart’ despite writing the record after listening to the rockers’ 1992 anthem, reports thesun.co.uk.

Diana Vickers has defended using "a snippet" of melody from 'Under The Bridge' on her upcoming single. The chorus of 'My Wicked Heart', which is released on November 7, borrows elements from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 1992 hit. Vickers told Digital Spy: "That happened without even knowing! We had the song and it didn't have the 'My Wicked Heart' bit in it and then we put the vocal in and we were like, 'Why does it sound so familiar?'. "Then we realised it was because we were listening to 'Under The Bridge' the day before! We were saying, (more)...

Charles B. Pierce was a popular regional filmmaker who made his feature film debut as director, producer, and cinematographer for the 1972 docu-drama The Legend of Boggy Creek. The low-budget film dramatized the legend of a Sasquatch-like creature known as the Fouke Monster, that was reputed to terrorize the small town in Arkansas near Texarkana. Boggy Creek became a major hit on the drive-in circuit. Pierce also directed and wrote a 1985 pseudo-sequel, The Barbaric Beast of Boggy Creek, Part II, and appeared in the role of Professor Brian C. `Doc’ Lockart.
Pierce was born in Hammond, Indiana, on June 16, 1938, and moved to Hampton, Arkansas, with his family as a child. He operated an advertising agency in Texarkana, and began working in films as a set decorator in the mid-1960s. He worked on numerous film and television productions including Chuck Jones’ animated feature The Phantom Tollbooth (1970), and the films Pretty Maids All in a Row...

Stage fans, we find ourselves on a weekend where lots of the star-driven shows on the boards -- ranging from Oleanna and After Miss Julie to A Steady Rain and Hamlet -- are set to close. Single tear. But, never fear! A handful of great new shows have opened in the last week, too, so you're covered. Reviews of five new shows went up on EW.com this week: our critics' takes on the touring production of The 101 Dalmatians Musical (B-); and off-Broadway entries The Brother/Sister Plays (A), This (B+), The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (C+), and A Streetcar Named Desire...

Former American Idol contestant Syesha Mercado may be the biggest known name in the revival of Dreamgirls that kicked off its national tour at Harlem's famed Apollo Theatre this week, but it's an unknown named Moya Angela who's generating all the buzz as Effie "I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" White, according to EW's Tanner Stransky. Also this week, the booty-shaking biographical Afrobeat musical Fela! (pictured at left) opened on Broadway to widespread raves (including a B+ from EW), while a fine cast headed by a lifeless Matthew Broderick struggled in director/playwright Kenneth Lonergan's disappointing new Off Broadway comic drama,...

It was a busy week on the boards. Sunday saw the opening of a Broadway revival of the musical Ragtime (pictured right), which EW's Melissa Rose Bernardo calls "dazzling" and gives an A. Also on Broadway, Sarah Ruhl's provocatively titled comic play In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play opened to a decidedly lukewarm review from yours truly: "Ruhl's play could have benefited from a broader, farcical touch." Elsewhere on Broadway, the Julia Stiles-Bill Pullman revival of David Mamet's Oleanna announced plans to close on Jan. 3. Off Broadway, we raved about both Alan Ayckbourn's My...

Although nothing much opened on the Great White Way this week, never fear, stage fans! Next week, we'll be posting new reviews of Broadway's musical revival Ragtime (at left) and the comedy In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play as well as the Alan Ayckbourn play My Wonderful Day Off Broadway and the Los Angeles productions of Mary Poppins and the drama Equivocation. If you are looking for something fresh from EW this week, though, read up on Broadway's new Spider-Man, Reeve Carney. But in the meantime, you can enjoy all the other great Stage coverage. This week saw the too-rapid close of the Neil Simon revival Brighton Beach Memoirs on Broadway, as well as the opening of three Off Broadway productions: The Understudy, starring Justin Kirk, Julie White, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar (above); Idiot Savant with Willem Dafoe; and Nightingale with Lynn Redgrave. Melissa Bernardo gave a B+ to The Understudy but dinged it for the cast's somewhat mixed on-stage chemistry. Thom Geier calls Idiot Savant "one strange, head-scratching evening" and gives it a C+. As for Lynn Redgrave's one-woman show, Nightingale, I gave it a C and took issue with the production because "the...

This week saw the opening of two new Broadway productions, both revivals: The Neil Simon Plays: Brighton Beach Memoirs, a comedy-drama starring former Roseanne star Laurie Metcalf (left), which I described as "a fine revival, easily the best show of a young Broadway season," and the musical Finian's Rainbow, which Tanner Stransky called "an odd, farcical muscial" that is "well cast and smartly performed." Still hunting for something to see on stage? Check out the EW.com Stage hub for up-to-date news and reviews; or consult this handy guide below, which includes links to all of our stage reviews of current shows.

People will live-blog anything these days. Political debates, every reality show ever, their baby's bowel movements. At first I thought following someone's reactions to an event in real-time would heighten the experience...then I saw it for what it really is: an effort to make yourself feel as though your TV choices are of value, and interest, to the rest of the world. Which is why I'll be bringing you my deep, necessary insights into Julia Stiles' star turn in the Lifetime movie, Wicked...in real time! 2:56 Getting excited for the melodrama to start. Julia Stiles starring in a Lifetime movie in 1998? One in which she manages to have a mother die, pull a single-white-female personality takeover on said dead mom, And sleep with her dad...on purpose? Wasn't that back when she still had a career? Better get a cosmo and some...

The Los Angeles theater scene? It, too, has been buffeted by the economic downturn. The phrase "ticket sales are off 10%" rolls easily off the lips of playhouse administrators. But spirits and resolve remain determinedly high, and there is no talk of converting to dinner theater.
Bigger venues have responded by focusing more precisely on target audiences, stretching budgets as far and creatively as possible, tinkering with pricing strategies and compelling season-ticket campaigns, and using the Internet not only for sales but also for creating buzz on such social networking sites as Facebook and Twitter.
There's also luck of the draw.
The Pantages began selling season tickets to Broadway/L.A. in spring 2008, before the brunt of the financial collapse. Using a "Welcome Home to the Pantages!" theme, inviting back existing subscribers after two years of "Wicked," Broadway/L.A.'s parade of mainstream moneymakers through November lists "Rain," "Mamma Mia!
