Annie Clark displays a remarkable facility for change, creating constantly morphing songs contained within a shifting panoply of modes, voices, and styles, cutting delicate, glittering pop with forceful fuzz and raunchy, preening guitar work. A multi-instrumentalist with a history of institutional training and anonymous backing-band work, she retains the guitar as her signature instrument and most potent tool, lacerating otherwise divine music with down-and-dirty grit, eyes heavenward and feet muddy.
The gradual expansion of sounds and textures occurring across her seven solo albums as St. Vincent has been accompanied by an inverse sense of simplification, the fine-tuning of music that’s grown less theatrical and more precise, imagery and language filed down to a sharp point. To celebrate the release of her latest release, All Born Screaming, we’ve ranked all eight of the musician’s albums, including her one-off collaboration with David Byrne.

Growing up in St. Charles, Illinois, Dallas Jenkins was not the child who was restless while sitting in the pews of church during a long service or in a classroom learning about the Bible. In fact, he was invigorated by Scripture lessons. And the Evangelical Christian, who would end up creating spiritual megahit The Chosen, always asked lots of questions. Jenkins remembers seeing classic imagery of Jesus Christ while in classes, where the Son of God was dressed in immaculate white and blue robes on flannelgraph and picture books. “He was just a big, smiling guy, and all the disciples are these old, bearded dudes,” the 48-year-old recalls. “But I was the one in class [asking], ‘What would it be like playing cards against Jesus? He always knows what you have! What would it be like to play sports with Jesus or to sit around a campfire [with Him]?’” ...

Green Day is once again using their platform to air their political stances.
During their New Year’s Eve performance on ABC, the band’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, changed a verse to their song “American Idiot” to take a jab at former President Donald Trump.
The original lyrics go, “Well, maybe I’m the f—-, America / I’m not a part of a redneck agenda/Now everybody, do the propaganda / And sing along to the age of paranoia.”

André 3000’s debut solo album, New Blue Sun, is out now via Epic Records. Stream it on Apple Music or Spotify below.
The eight-song improvisational instrumental album is different from what fans might be expecting from the OutKast rapper: completely bar-free and no beats. Alongside the jazz musings of co-producer Carlos Niño, core sounds on the record include guitar, synth, and live sampling courtesy of Nate Mercereau, with Surya Botofasina on keyboards and synthesizers. André 3000 himself plays a variety of different wind instruments, including a digital wind instrument, a Maya flute, and others made of wood and bamboo.
“I’ve been interested in winds for a long time, so it was just a natural progression for me to go into flutes,” André said in a statement. “I just like messing with instruments and I gravitated mostly toward wind.”

It’s been just over a year since Kendrick Lamar and his cousin Baby Keem last joined each other on a track. Their Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers deep cut “Savior” was a weighted examination of idol worship, but their latest single, “The Hillbillies,” is the product of both rappers being in a silly, goofy mood, as evidenced in its accompanying Neal Farmer-directed video.
“We gon’ fuck up the world (Here right now)/Excuse me, but is that your girl? (Here right now)/Didn’t mean to possess your girl/Baby,...

Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar have reunited for their latest collaboration, “The Hillbillies.” Featuring a Bon Iver sample, the song was unexpectedly released on the pgLang YouTube channel along with an accompanying music video.
Featuring fast-paced production by Surf Gang founder Evilgiane, “The Hillbillies” is built around a sample of Bon Iver’s 2020 Covid-19 benefit single “Pdlif.” The freewheeling collaboration between the two cousins details their travels around the world as they rap about fashion, women, and fame.
“We gon’ fuck up the world,” Kendrick raps on the chorus. “Excuse me, but is that your girl?/ Didn’t mean to possess your girl.” Keem adds, “Somebody’s gonna invade on a one of one conversation/ I’m ducked off from the world, I’m immersed in the PlayStation/ And I ain’t worried ’bout her, it’s a thousand hers out waitin’.”

Billy Corgan is reflecting on his friendship with the late Lisa Marie Presley, and he admits there’s one regret he has over his working relationship with her, or lack thereof.
During an appearance with The Smashing Pumpkins on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, the rock band’s frontman opened up about the tragic loss of Elvis and Priscilla Presley‘s only child, after she died in January at the age of 54.
Following her death, Corgan was among those who performed at her funeral, held at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, where he performed the band’s 1998 single, “To Sheila.”
“She was awesome — that was a tough one,” the 56-year-old musician said. “That was really hard for me because she was a one-of-a-kind person and the world really didn’t know her because they, of course, always knew her as Elvis’ daughter, but she was a really, really cool, unique person.

“He showed up — new clothes, new car. I said, ‘Did you rent this car?’ He laughed and said, ‘Sorta,’” Corgan recalled.
Some time afterward, the musician learned that his father had actually hit a spot of very, very good luck financially.
“His wife’s aunt had won the Florida state lottery — $27 million, clean … but my father didn’t want me to know because [he thought] I would ask him for my money back that he stole from me,” Corgan said. “That’s how my father’s brain worked.”
He also told Stern of his dad, “He stole money from me multiple times.

Friends Jeanene Erdahl and Lisa Larson drove all night from Minnesota to Graceland, arriving in Memphis at 4:30 in the morning to queue up for a memorial honoring the life of Lisa Marie Presley, who died last week at 54. Later today, they’ll turn around and do it again.
Erdahl and Larson, who became fast friends seven years ago after bonding over their mutual love of Elvis, watched the memorial service just steps from where mourners like Axl Rose and Alanis Morissette were paying musical tribute to the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Exclusive: Kate Beckinsale will star in the Catherine Hardwicke-helmed family drama Prisoner’s Daughter, penned by Mark Bacci.
“Mark Bacci’s script is a raw, personal look at a deeply fractured family, similar to my first film Thirteen (with Evan Rachel Wood and Holly Hunter.) The film tells the story of a tough but proud ex-con who’s struggling to find a way to reconnect with his only daughter and grandson; once he begins an attempt at reconciliation, his violent past once again catches up to him.

The long break is over, and new episodes of Grey's Anatomy are on the horizon.
The pandemic disrupted Grey's Anatomy Season 16, and now, the upcoming season will spend time covering it.
We can also expect more crossovers, relationship drama, and so much more.
TV Fanatics Berea Orange, Kerr Lordygan, and Jasmine Blu came together ahead of the premiere for a fun, wild, and at times racy chat about all things Grey's Anatomy.
Jasmine: What do you hope to see on Grey's Anatomy this season?
Berea: I hope to see a better season, in short, and preferably fewer crossovers.
Kerr: I hate the crossovers. I dislike Station 19, so I don't care about any of them. I also don't like the episodes that take us out of the overarching plot and focus on one character.
Berea: I also can’t wait to see Owen get his karma. Aka his reaction to Teddy’s cheating.

“Never count out an oppressed population” and “never count out a played-out genre” are just two of the notions that stayed with me after watching “Mangrove,” one of a five-part series of period films by Steve McQueen about London’s West Indian community.
It’s a movie about a real-life injustice followed by a courtroom drama, and if a long history of hacky biopics and feel-good activist cinema made you think this kind of story was beyond telling on film with power or efficacy, McQueen proves that there’s still a way to do it right. The tale of the Mangrove Nine was relevant in the late 1960s and early 1970s when it actually happened, it was relevant when McQueen and Alastair Siddons (“Tomb Raider” 2018) sat down to write about it, and it’s relevant today, tomorrow, and in the future, as unchecked police brutality continues to rain down on communities of color.

September and October are weird months most of the time, at least movie wise. There's not a lot of options during this time, as all the good movies are waiting until nearer the holidays to release. So, typically, you spend this time either catching up on film s]you may have missed during the summer, or, if you're lucky enough, catching all the limited releases before they hit the mainstream closer to Oscar time. But, surprisingly enough, 2012 is different. There's actually some great options in here, including some "Best of the Year" potentials. To read about those films (and a whole lot more), hit the jump right now!
So apparently, the beginning of September is too good for movies. September 7, the first Friday of the month, has zero releases set for theaters. Well I wouldn't be surprised if this spot is eventually filled sometime in 2012, for now, we'll just have to skip this weekend.

Bokeem Woodbine, Peter Jason, Noah Bean and Deborah Ann Woll have joined the cast of the supernatural thriller "Little Murder" from Mind in Motion Entertainment.
Josh Lucas, Terrence Howard and Lake Bell are already filming the post-Hurricane Katrina mystery written by Gerald Di Pego ("The Forgotten") and Justin Di Pego and directed by Peter Antonijevic.
"Murder" centers on a disgraced New Orleans police detective trying to find the killer of a beautiful cellist -- with the girl's ghost assisting.
Mind in Motion's Silvio Muraglia is producing the film, which is shooting in Detroit and New Orleans. Foreign sales are being handled by third-party sales agent Lisa Wilson of Parlay Films.
Woodbine, repped by Gersh and the Artist Representation Group, has appeared in "Ray," "The Rock" and "Dead Presidents."
Jason, repped by Diverse Talent Group, has appeared in "Heartbreak Ridge," "Adaptation" and "Seabiscuit" and on TV in "Deadwood" and "Mad Men.
