[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Survivor Season 44 Episode 10, “Full Tilt Boogie.”] For the first time in a long time, there are more women left in Survivor than men. Moms got a special break in Survivor Season 44 Episode 10 thanks to Frannie’s continued challenge success. But while she and the moms Heidi, Carolyn, and Lauren bonded over a sanctuary reward, Jamie — the only woman left out of the feast — struggled to establish trust when coming clean about her “idol” being flushed when Kane was voted out in Episode 9. While an all-female alliance formed, Carson simultaneously emerged as a power player. The youngest cast member won his first individual immunity challenge in this episode, putting him in the only real position of power at tribal council. Heading into the vote, Carson said he was primed to betray one group alliance. It was only a matter of which one. “Full Tilt Boogie” was an all-around destabilizing episode, from...

So who ended up having their torch snuffed by host Jeff Probst on Wednesday night?

CBS has released a “Survivor 44” sneak peek video for the Wednesday, May 3 episode, titled “Full Tilt Boogie,” and fans of Carson Garrett should get a kick out of it (watch above). The self-prescribed “space nerd” returns to camp after voting out Kane Fritzler, and he immediately starts spinning a web of lies to Kane’s former ally Jaime Lynn Ruiz about her fake idol (which she thought was real). Remember, Jaime gave it to Kane for safe keeping in case someone had a Knowledge Is Power advantage, and he ended up leaving with it in his sock.
“I focus my game upon relationships,” Carson tells the camera in a private confessional. “And so it’s really important for me to focus on damage control.” Carson then whispers to Jaime in the jungle that he always “wanted to work” with Kane, but that he couldn’t after Kane spilled the beans...

Two things are evident when watching this 1996 Making of… documentary about Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day.
The first is that Jeff Goldblum, our host – shot in grainy black and white, is some kind of ultra-human, moving gracefully through a faux Area 51 ‘base’ like a ballerina escaping a disturbed nest of wasps. When stationary Goldblum transfixes us with his economic yet purposeful gestures; he plucks the strings of an invisible harp, prods thin air with an outstretched index finger, kneads phantom dough. His is a stunning display of concetrated chirality.
The second is that they really don’t make these documentaries anymore. Fans of Full Tilt Boogie, the epic Lord of the Rings extras and the Blair Witch offerings will mourn the arrival of the Epk-led special features.
On this day (Our Independence Day…) we’re offering you the chance to relive a classic in a whole new way.

The Black Mirror actress is set to play Varang, 'a strong and vibrant central character who spans the entire length of the instalments', according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin - and rising star in her own right - will be in it for the long haul, as production on the four long-in-gestation sequels may stretch on until 2024 or 2025 at this rate.

The story of Janis Joplin has at once fascinated and confounded Hollywood, in equal measure, for decades. The iconic blues vocalist who burst onto the music scene in the 1960s captured the imagination in such a rare way that many have tried to deliver her biopic – and failed. This could be about to change, however, as it is reported that Michelle Williams is in “early talks” to play the titular lead role in Janis.
Janis Joplin shone very bright, but all too briefly as she forged a music career that resulted in just 4 studio albums, released between 1967 and 1971. She built a stellar reputation as an outstanding, captivating live performer, though, and frequently left audiences stunned from 1962, when she really began singing to entertain, and her premature death in 1970. In that fleeting period, she had been the lead singer of Big Brother And The Holding Company, The Kozmic Blues Band, and...

"From Dusk Till Dawn" looked like a box office misfire for hot young filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez when it was released 20 years ago this week (on January 19, 1996). But like the strip-club vampires who ambush the fugitive Gecko brothers, "Dawn" has proven surprisingly resistant to death.
Despite its modest ticket sales, the bloody film became a cult hit that spawned a theatrically-released making-of documentary ("Full Tilt Boogie"), two straight-to-video sequels, and a horror series on Rodriguez's El Rey cable channel that will soon begin its third season. More important, it gave George Clooney his first big break in movies after his TV success on "ER." It also marked the first full-length collaboration between Tarantino and Rodriguez, and gave Salma Hayek the most iconic scene of her career, as a snake-wielding table dancer/queen of the vampires.

The Place Beyond the Pines

Derek Cianfrance delivers another powerful drama with Ryan Gosling leading us through a tough depiction of the tumultuous relationships of fathers and sons. The discovery of a son he previously had no knowledge of sends Gosling’s tautly constructed lead through a series of robberies to win the trust of his son’s mother. The three act structure is beautifully handled with a simmering tension as thematic lines are set down which the fates of the characters are drawn into. The moral legacy of the film’s early sequences are explored with a precision which results in an emotionally powerful film. Perhaps the best work Cianfrance has delivered so far.

Today is the birthday of psychedelic goddess and raucous rock icon, Janis Joplin. The front woman of groups like the Full Tilt Boogie Band and Big Brother and the Holding Company would turn 70 years old if she were still magically alive today.
The Texas-born legend has managed to remain an influential force in music over the last four decades since her death, with some of the best songwriters in the business citing Ms. Joplin as an icon, including Stevie Nicks, Florence Welch and Joss Stone. But it's not just the actual music that's fallen under her spell. No, from Ke$ha's whiskey-drinking ways to Fiona Apple's onstage freak-outs, the legacy of Janis Joplin can be seen in trends across the music world and popular culture in general.
So in celebration of Joplin' birthday, we've put together a slideshow of 10 pop culture trends inspired by Joplin herself. Scroll through the...

To continue on with my recent ‘behind the scenes’ fascination, I’ve been digging up what I think are the best documentaries hidden on the special features menus across the dvd world. Most of what you’ll find in those supplements are the Electronic Press Kit docus that are there to fluff up the release and add content. Basically you get a fifteen minute HBO Making Of… special that is more about inflating egos than getting into what really happens on the set. When you do find a little film out there that goes a little further, damn it, we have to embrace it.
Instead of showcasing the film’s stars, Full Tilt Boogie follows the assistants and the crew, and while that might not make this the most Hollywood of pieces, it definitely makes for an eye opening flick. It’s not normal that...

Jose here, with a roundup of this week's new DVD releases.
First up we have the Oscar winning The King's Speech which surprisingly hasn't been out on DVD for decades. Doesn't it feel like one of those movies you're used to passing by on video store aisles, next to things like Around the World in 80 Days, Oliver! and all those other Best Picture winners nobody remembers anymore? Maybe I'm alone on this one, since the film was so popular it ended up making $138 million in the North American box office. Will perennial home video popularity follow?
Much less popular, but inarguably more interesting, was Sofia Coppola's Somewhere which also debuts on DVD tomorrow. The Venice Film Festival winner was supposed to reignite Stephen Dorff's career but went by almost undetected by audiences. Give it a try at home, bask in its visual richness and join Nat next...

Echo Bridge Entertainment is wasting no time in its agreement with the new Miramax to get some of Dimension Films' horror library onto Blu-Ray. Halloween: H20 , From Dusk Till Dawn and The Crow: City of Angels will all make their blu debut on May 3. Special features have not yet been revealed, but it might be safe to guess that any bonus content featured on the previously released DVDs will be carried over. However, I don't know if Full Tilt Boogie will be included on From Dusk Till Dawn . Fingers crossed.

Would someone please add "speechlessness" to the Survivor dictionary or at least Wikipedia. Because after tonight, I feel like all Survivor fans have just shared a bit of Survivor church. I am still in shock at how good this season is and I was out there shooting it!! Name another reality show having a better season than Survivor. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Okay, onto the blog… This Is When The Game Gets Crazy Well for once this season,...

On 'American Idol,' Bowersox earned big praise for singing Janis Joplin's posthumous hit.

Once again, one of the highlights of Tuesday night's episode of "American Idol" — which was focused on songs that had hit No. 1 on the pop charts — was Crystal Bowersox's performance. Armed with her trusty guitar and her disarming voice, the rocker sang "Me and Bobby McGee," which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971.
There's a bittersweet feeling within the lyrics of "Bobby," as well as in the story surrounding it. The song was written by country legends Kris Kristofferson (who has had a string of hits himself) and Fred Foster (who produced much of Roy Orbison's best work and helped introduce the world to Dolly Parton) and was recorded by "King of the Road" singer...
