I watched The Daytrippers, and I can't believe this has been around since 1996, and I've never heard of it.
When I read the synopsis, I wasn't too interested because I generally don't find it entertaining to watch a woman suspect that her husband is cheating. I find that sort of think gut-wrenching. Not entertaining. Gut. Wrenching.
But then I saw it had Hope Davis, whom I first saw in The Secret Lives of Dentist (which I don't know if I liked it, don't know if I understood it - if you saw it, you know what I mean...) and Parker Posey (she had me at "Guffman"), so I thought I'd give it a try.
The writers did an incredible job of showing what it must be like to think you're happily married, then something suspicious happens, then what may follow. The writing was so perfect. And the characters worked for me: the sister and her boyfriend, the mom and dad, the people they meet along the way. I have a quirky family and have met lots of quirky people, and these characters really worked for me.
It was a serious subject mixed with a perfect amount of humor and side stories, and I just loved it. So, if you're an indie fan who likes non-epic films with non-epic stories, you have to see this film. I am so glad I did.
