Over the last decade or so, Marvel has had a knack for snagging independent filmmakers with a lot of buzz, critical acclaim, and innovative creative voices to join their stable. Before James Gunn was at the helm of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy, he was the guy who got his start writing "Tromeo and Juliet" for Lloyd Kaufman. And he's not alone. Scott Derrickson, Jon Watts, Taika Waititi, Cate Shoreland, Destin Daniel Cretton, Chloé Zhao, Nia DaCosta, and so many others were still stars on the rise when Marvel came calling.
Fan reactions are typically divided with one camp worried this marks the end of their independent visions in favor of corporate-driven storytelling, while others are thrilled to see directors they love getting one hell of a paycheck. Theoretically, this should give them the creative freedom to make whatever film they want next, like the director's version of what...

Thanks to his roles as perhaps Stars Hollow's most unorthodox resident, Kirk Gleason, on "Gilmore Girls" and the sensitive Ravager Kraglin Obfonteri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (where he also served as the on-set stand-in for Rocket Racoon), most people have probably laid their eyes upon Sean Gunn's mug at some point. For a long time, though, he was one of those actors who could pop his head into a major film or TV series, then vanish before you even had time to register whether you recognized that dude from somewhere.
Like his brother, filmmaker James Gunn, Sean Gunn got his start on Troma's B-movie farce "Tromeo and Juliet" in 1996. A few years after that, he scored a small role in a major TV venture, playing the demonic Lucas in the first season of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spinoff "Angel." Exclusive: We understand that Guardians of the Galaxy alum Sean Gunn is set to take on the role of evil businessman Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe that’s being overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The role was previously played by Pedro Pascal in the 2020 movie Wonder Woman 1984.
It’s not clear if Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord will make a cameo in brother Gunn’s Superman: Legacy which will go into production next year. The character, as I hear it, will be referenced in the background of Legacy but will appear in future DC projects. A similar motif will occur for other characters in the new DC Universe, the first phase which is named Gods and Monsters: Chapter One. Stay tuned.
Maxwell Lord debuted in 1987’s Justice League #1 created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire. Initially conceived as an amigo to the...

Horror has come into its own in the 21st century. This is not to say that the genre has ever not been one of the most interesting and creative in the long history of cinema. Since nearly the beginning of the art form, using moving images to scare audiences has been a gateway for aspirin filmmakers to break into the industry—or for even veterans to creatively something about the greater world by painting a landscape of anxiety.
Nonetheless, the 21st century (particularly beginning in its second decade) has brought a renewed appreciation for scary movies’ abilities to speak to audiences with more than just “boo.” With that in mind, we at Den of Geek have polled our staff and collected the below list of what we generally consider to be the best chillers of the fast quarter-century or so. Enjoy.

With "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," actor Sean Gunn has arguably reached the zenith of his career after his motion capture performance as Rocket Raccoon and his role as Kraglin, the mowhawked Ravager with a heart who finally gets his long overdue hero moment in his brother James Gunn's surprisingly moving threequel. Professionally, both brothers have been working together since "Tromeo and Juliet," with Sean also going on to appear in "The Specials" and the R-rated vigilante superhero indie "Super" (before appearing in all three "Guardians" films and the "Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special").
Countless VFX artists have worked tireless hours to bring Rocket Raccoon to life, working in concert with Gunn's movements on set to deliver a fully realized character that has now become the beating heart of the franchise and one of the most unlikely heroes in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. This article contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
The "Guardians of the Galaxy" films are without a doubt the most aesthetically diverse entries within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Far from being just another superhero saga, the films blend elements of comic-book-style derring-do, soap opera, space opera, action-adventure, and character-based melodrama.
But one particular element that writer/director James Gunn has continually brought to all three "Guardians" films is horror. For those not particularly well-versed in the genre, the horrific aspects of the "Guardians" movies may simply seem "edgy," but to those who are aware of Gunn's horror-soaked past as a filmmaker, these elements stick out like a big, fleshy tentacle.
The latest installment of the saga, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," is no exception to showcasing Gunn's horror roots. On the contrary; it may be the goopiest, most intense, upsetting, and transgressive of all the "Guardians" movies,...

In October of 2022, it was announced that James Gunn -- the director of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films -- would be leaving the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take a prestigious job at Warner Bros. with his creative partner Peter Safran. The two of them have been tasked with inventing an entirely new interconnected cinematic universe of their own based on DC Comics, and Gunn has already announced his work on a Superman film he plans to call "Superman: Legacy." Gunn was already more or less facing the door when he directed "The Suicide Squad," a 2021 film based on DC Comics, and subsequently created a TV series, "Peacemaker," based on it.
"Vol. 3," as a result of Gunn's career shift, possesses an elegiac quality, with many established characters moving on to new careers at the film's conclusion. The mood is melancholic, as if audiences may not ever see these characters again.

It’s not everyday that a director becomes a CEO, but James Gunn has somehow become the dark avenger that DC needs. Along with his producing partner Peter Safran, Gunn was appointed to the co-ceo position at Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC Studios in October 2022, with the objective of crafting a new strategy for films based on the company’s stable of comic book icons like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
That’s a massive shift of Hollywood power players and a career boost for anyone, although Gunn evidently doesn’t plan to leave the director’s chair anytime soon. He’s all hands on deck for writing and directing the first film under his and Safran’s regime, “Superman: Legacy.” The forthcoming blockbuster — a reboot for the Superman franchise focusing on the early days of the Kyrptonian’s career — is set for release on June 11, 2025.

In the vast tapestry that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies — based on the comics by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning — filled the role of "quirky outsiders." This is a gargantuan feat, given the number of gods, aliens, monsters, and other extraordinary beings found throughout the series. The team consisted of a single human being, Peter (Chris Pratt) who was abducted by a UFO as a child, and had eventually fallen into a family-like relationship with a team of mutants and alien warriors. There was Rocket Raccoon (voice of Bradley Cooper), a talking tree named Groot (Vin Diesel), a deadly assassin named Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), her mostly-mechanical sister Nebula (Karen Gillen), a literal-minded bruiser named Drax (Dave Bautista), and the gentle psychic Mantis (Pom Klementieff).

Great news, Toxie fans — the upcoming "The Toxic Avenger" remake/reboot is apparently going to deliver exactly what we sickos want! There hasn't been too much news about the film (which is written and helmed by "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore" director Macon Blair) since it finished filming in August of 2021, but thankfully we've gotten confirmation that the film totally maintains the spirit of the original 1984 horror-comedy ... albeit, from a slightly unexpected source.
/Film's Ryan Scott spoke with the sound team behind the fierce action flick "John Wick: Chapter 4," and the conversation eventually turned to "The Toxic Avenger." Sound editor Casey Genton worked on both films and revealed that it's not only going to make fans of the original Troma film very happy, but that even people who have never seen the original will find something to love. When Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" dropped in 2004, it earned scrutiny and praise alike. As a loose re-imagining of George A. Romero's 1978 zombie classic, it was evaluated against the original "Dawn of the Dead." Fans noticed the difference immediately; whereas the Godfather of Horror set his apocalypse survivors in a mall as a commentary on consumerism, Snyder's mall was one great, glossy epicenter for action sequences. Proponents of Snyder's movie, like /Film's Joshua Meyer, hailed said sequences like its famous cold open as the best possible use of Snyder's music video experience, whereas Romero would tell Simon Pegg in 2005 (re: Snyder's remake), "The first 15, 20 minutes were terrific, but it sort of lost its reason for being. It was more of a video game."
For screenwriter and now-DC Studios co-head James Gunn, it's true that social commentary on consumerism wasn't at the forefront of his mind during the writing process.

Since taking on "Guardians of the Galaxy" in 2014, writer-director James Gunn has repeatedly expressed his deep ardor for each of these oddball characters who come together to form both a team and a family. They're misfits, and they look out for each other because the world plays rough with people of their offbeat ilk.
This is something Gunn knows firsthand. He cut his teeth as a screenwriter on Lloyd Kaufman's ultra-low-budget horror riff on the Bard, "Tromeo & Juliet," and found a small cult following thanks to his script for Craig Mazin's superhero comedy "The Specials." He stumbled commercially with his 2006 directorial debut, "Slither," and failed to find a wide-enough audience for his pitch-black superhero action comedy "Super." Though he had a solid reputation as a studio writer-for-hire via Raja Gosnell's "Scooby-Doo" movies and Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" remake, he was considered an acquired...

If you were paying attention to James Gunn and Peter Safran's presentation about the future of DC superhero movies, you may have noticed that something sounded familiar.
No, it's not the fact that we're getting new versions of movies we've already seen before, like Superman and Batman and Swamp Thing. And no, we're not even talking about how it's yet another series of gigantic promises about an interconnected universe in a modern pop culture environment that eats almost all of those up and spits them out.
In addition to all the tantalizing, puzzling, and just plain weird news about the future of DC superhero movies, there was also a curious choice for a title. This first chapter of Gunn and Safran's interconnected universe will be called "Gods and Monsters," and that's a very specific title with a very specific history connected to it.

Someone once said that no matter what time of day you watch Ed Wood's legendary B-movie "Plan 9 From Outer Space," it always feels like three o'clock in the morning. The mere mention of Troma movies has a similar effect on me; suddenly it's a Friday night down Blockbuster Video in the early '90s all over again. Friends are coming over with beer and pizza and all I need is something with guns, boobs, car crashes, monsters, and cheap laughs for the perfect night in.
Headed by the cartoonish figure of Lloyd Kaufman, the studio has produced and distributed a steady stream of Z-grade trash for over 40 years now, and anyone who was around during the glory days of rental will be familiar with their sleazy back catalog. The world of Troma is both wacky and cynical, populated by dweebs, perverts, knuckleheads, psychos, bimbos, scumlords, and violent morons.

Before James Gunn was making his irreverent and heartfelt comic book blockbusters, he had firmly planted roots in low budget B-horror. His earliest screenplay credits were for Troma Entertainment, a company known for its provocative gross-out fests. Gunn's most notable work for the company was "Tromeo and Juliet," a crass black comedy take on the Shakespeare classic with a body horror twist. He would soon break into Hollywood as a screenwriter with his work on Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" and 2002's then-maligned-now-beloved "Scooby-Doo" live-action film.
Gunn's feature directorial debut, 2006's "Slither," which follows an alien parasite that infects and terrorizes a small town, was a nasty horror-comedy love letter to the genre films that awakened his love for cinema. The film featured appearances from Elizabeth Banks, Nathan Fillion, and a wonderfully villainous performance from Michael Rooker, all soon to become regular collaborators with Gunn on future projects.

Low and high brow keep a respectable distance in this campy, loose-bowelled adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. Troma Entertainment has been dumping its unique brand of independent shock cinema for almost 50 years, and for connoisseurs looking for their distinct aroma, Shakespeare’s Shitstorm does not disappoint. The uninitiated viewer may leave screenings disgusted and disgruntled. The director would have it no other way. He’s flushing his career with gusto.
This will be the last film from Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman, and he is really letting go. “Uncle Lloydie,” the 74-year-old low-budget filmmaking icon, is the centerpiece of the film. He wrote the script with Brandon Bassham, Gabriel Friedman, Frazer Brown, Doug Sakmann, and Zac Amico. Kaufman plays multiple roles in this tangled web of revenge and other fecal matters. As Prospero, Kaufman finds a mouthpiece instead of a codpiece, spouting undeniable truthisms in the name of pseudoscience.

Spoiler Warning: Do not read if you have not seen “The Suicide Squad,” currently playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
For anyone familiar with James Gunn’s career, his DC comics adaptation “The Suicide Squad” is arguably the most James Gunn movie he’s ever made. Like his Marvel Studios’ films — 2014’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” and 2017’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” — “The Suicide Squad” is a massive comic book spectacular, about scrappy crew of headstrong ne’er-do-wells who struggle, hilariously, to figure out how to work together as a team as they face off against a giant alien monster. Like Gunn’s earlier, smaller films — the 2006 R-rated horror comedy “Slither” and the 2010 R-rated costume vigilante dramedy “Super” — “The Suicide Squad” is exuberantly violent and profane, reveling in blood, gore, and nudity (male and female) that reflect its characters’ total lack of decorum or pretension.

There are two things that James Gunn does better than just about anyone else on the planet: One is making glossy mega-budget superhero movies that still march to the beat of their own drum (e.g. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”), and the other is making over-the-top gore-fests so gross they straddle the line between indie cinema and outsider art. Gunn might be the only person to direct blockbuster tentpoles for both Marvel and DC, but he’s still the guy who co-wrote Troma’s “Tromeo and Juliet” at heart. And by the time the opening credits of “The Suicide Squad” are spelled out in the head blood that seeps from a supporting character’s freshly exploded skull, it’s clear that he always will be.

Neil Marshall’s The Reckoning Photo: Fantasia International Film Festival
The first part of this year's Fantasia International Film Festival was announced today, including opening film The Reckoning, the latest thriller by Neil Marshall, which is set against the backdrop of England's Great Plague and subsequent witch hunts. It stars Charlotte Kirk and Sean Pertwee and will be the second Fantasia opener for Marshall, whose The Descent was the headlines 15 years ago.
The festival will celebrate 45 years of Troma with Lloyd Kaufman's take on The Tempest, his second stab at Shakespeare after Tromeo And Juliet in 1996. Other highlights include Lucky, the second feature by Imitation Girl director Natasha Kermani, which will remind you to play it safe and wear your mask because you won't want to be the person without one, plus Chino Moya's Undergods, which journeys through a fantastically decaying Europe and employs the talents of Geza Rohrig and Kate Dickie.

In the days following Disney’s decision to fire director James Gunn from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in response to offensive tweets from several years ago, several of his closest collaborators have spoken up in his support, including “Guardians” stars Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt. Over the weekend, one of Gunn’s oldest collaborators added his voice to the fray: B-movie mainstay Lloyd Kaufman, whose Troma Studios employed Gunn early in his career, beginning with his screenplay for 1995’s “Tromeo and Juliet.”
On Saturday, Kaufman posted a brief video to his Twitter account from San Diego Comic-Con, which the 72-year-old filmmaker clutched a doll based on the lead character from his film “The Toxic Avenger.” In the 15-second video, Kaufman called Gunn “the nicest, most generous, talented, and decent person I’ve known in my 50 years of making movies.” However, in a longer version of the...

With the highly-anticipated horror Death House being released in cinemas on March 2nd, I got a chance to ask filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman about how he got into film making, what we can expect and his favourite moments during filming.
How did you first get into film making?
I got into filmmaking because I made the mistake of going to Yale University. I was heading to doing something useful with my life like teaching or social work, but my roommate was a film fanatic. Our beds were in a very small bedroom, they were head to toe and at night I would inhale his stinking feet and I sort of caught the Aroma du Troma. He ran the Yale Film Society, so I would drift in and suddenly I started watching the screen and I had no idea that film was such an art, I didn’t even know there was a director for a movie.

Little known fact. James Gunn wrote the screenplay for Scooby-Doo: The Movie. A movie I quite enjoyed when I was growing up and still to this day. I was in California on vacation when I saw it with my family. I really thought it was clever to make Scrappy Doo the villain because so many people hated him in the original series. I also thought the casting was so enjoyable. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, Freddie Prinze Jr, Isla Fisher, and Matthew Lillard were so great to watch re-enact my favorite cartoon characters. It was a kids movie sure, but at fifteen years old I still thought it was funny and cool in its own right.
Well, James Gunn had a lot of fun being involved in writing it, and got to be on set with the actors during the filming and he has very fond memories. In honor of the 15th anniversary,...

I know you have just come back from the Cannes festival, where you premiered Return To Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 2 (2017). Can you tell me what your experience was like in Cannes this year?
It’s getting more and more difficult at the Cannes film festival for independent movie artists to do publicity, unless they have the hundred thousand dollar posters or the money for the big party that worships the shrine of money and jewellery and fashion. Cannes is more about the jewellery and fashion than it is about movies. It’s clear the Cannes film festival does not want any independent movie there that is not part of the elite, that’s not part of the club, that is not part of the very refined fascist mentality. I think they show good movies, but if those good movies are not in with the club, forget it. Troma is famous.

Another weekend, another blockbuster Marvel opening at the box office. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the latest episode in the company's cosmic-mercenaries saga, predictably crushed the competition, grossing an estimated $425 million globally and perpetuating the studio's multiplex dominance. If you're looking for a secret to the company's success, we'll direct you to a 2014 comment from GotG director James Gunn. "I made a decision early on that I wanted it to be a hundred percent a James Gunn movie and a hundred percent a Marvel movie," he said after the first film's release.

As if last year’s nostalgia-infused sensation Stranger Things didn’t make it clear enough, the world is currently going mad for all things eighties. Not the big hair or the shellsuits, mind – rather woozy synthpop, blood-rich neon and anything related to the heyday of creepy body horror.
With Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski’s splattery new gorefest The Void out now, one that gleefully mashes up loving homages to H.P. Lovecraft John Carpenter, David Cronenberg and more, here are the essential throwback horror movies that you need to watch in preparation.

I've been hearing nothing but great things about this movie from people who I know who have seen it. I have yet to see if for myself, but judging from the buzz spreading, it's going to deliver some insanely blood-soaked entertainment.
We have a red-band clip for you to watch today called "All In My Mind," and it gives you a little tease of the messed-up and disturbing violence that I've heard this film is filled with. It focuses on Sean Gunn's character in the middle of a crazy shootout that he doesn't want to believe is really happening. Check it out:
The Belko Experiment explores a twisted social experiment "in which a group of 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogata and ordered by an unknown voice on an intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed. It’s not...

If you’ve never heard of Lloyd Kaufman, you’ve managed to avoid the work of one of the most prolific pioneers of independent film from the past four decades. Kaufman’s New York-based movie studio Troma Entertainment has produced and distributed more than 1,000 films, and in the process has helped launch the careers of some of Hollywood’s most successful talents.
New Yorkers unfamiliar with Troma have a chance to catch up on its sensibilities this weekend. On Friday and Saturday, Troma hosts the 17th annual Tromadance Film Festival in Brooklyn, a free festival showing feature films and shorts from filmmakers around the world. This is the story of how one wacky filmmaking factory found its groove.

1986 was a hugely important year in genre cinema—part of the five-year stretch between 1982 and 1987 that arguably makes up the best run of genre movies in history. Major studios and major filmmakers like Fox, James Cameron, David Cronenberg, and John Carpenter were turning out genre classics. New voices like Fred Dekker and John McTiernan were introducing themselves to audiences. Franchises like Friday the 13th, Star Trek, and Psycho were still going strong on the big screen. And in the middle of all this, America’s longest-running independent studio, Troma, cemented their very specific and wholly original cinematic voice with Class of Nuke ’Em High.
Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman had already been producing and directing films for over a decade—first art films and then a series of outrageous sex comedies like Waitress! and Stuck on You!—but it wasn’t until 1984’s The Toxic Avenger that Kaufman more or less established Troma’s house style.

Based on Stephen King’s novel, the author co-wrote the screenplay with Adam Alleca, and Cell heads to UK cinemas on August 26th.
We’ve got a trailer for the film and synopsis here, so as tradition dictates, we shall do them in turn.

No critic is infallible. It’s an open secret that few of them will admit, but would be remiss to deny. As valuable a resource as the informed film critic can provide when appraising a motion picture, we’re prone to the same random prejudices and peccadillos as anyone else. Sure, professionalism dictates that we diligently strive to check them at the door, but few of even the very best films are recognized as classics on first sight, and any number of random factors – including real-life experience – can skew our perception as we weigh the many factors that lead to a film’s ultimate success or failure.
Citizen Kane (1941), The Wizard of Oz (1939), and Blade Runner (1982) were all panned by critics upon initial release, yet today they’re rightfully considered classics. So what stuck in Pauline Kael’s craw when she turned up her nose at The Graduate, and who...

It may not be immediately obvious from watching Guardians of the Galaxy, but writer-director James Gunn is a horror guy in his heart. Granted, Guardians is a bit edgier than most of the Marvel movies, but it's certainly not nearly as violent as his past films like Super, as gory as Slither, or as grungy as Tromeo and Juliet. We love the more family-friendly movies Gunn's plenty capable of (he wrote the live-action Scooby-Doos, which are actually pretty clever), but we also dig those movies, so we're relieved to hear that he hasn't hung up his horror hat just yet. Gunn revealed on Facebook that The Belco Experiment, a script he wrote a few years, has finally found new life. Unfortunately he's not directing (Guaradians of the Galaxy 2 has him...

By now, most of you are familiar with the galactic awesomeness that is Guardians Of The Galaxy, but for those of you that have been hiding under a rock on Knowhere, you’re in luck because this spunky bunch of A-holes are making their way to Blu-Ray on December 9th.
Last week, I talked with writer/director/animal enthusiast James Gunn about his feelings before releasing the film, the upcoming sequel and, of course, Michael Rooker. Check it out below.
Before the film was released, there were a ton of headlines about James Gunn being terrified to release Guardians. The film’s coming to Blu-ray now, and has done incredibly well, so I’m wondering what scares you now?
James Gunn : Well, I wasn’t terrified of releasing the movie. I was terrified because I didn’t know how I was going to live my life without having Rocket in it everyday.

What new horrors await us on DVD this month? Well, lots of bloodsuckers, for starters...
As the old Simpsons quote goes, there are only three real monsters, kid: Dracula, Blacula and Son of Kong. Sadly, giant gorilla junior doesn’t make an appearance this month though we’ve at least got the first two categories covered.
Leading the way with aplomb, our friend Blacula finally graces this young blog with not one but two classics released on Blu-ray and DVD as a complete collection. In case you’re not familiar with this wonderful splicing of seventies Blaxploitation and gothic horror (shame on you if so), the tale of undead African prince Mamuwalde and his ongoing struggle with both his own bloodlust and pesky locals trying to stake him through the heart is both surprisingly well-made and massively enjoyable. Oh, and its success also led to the subsequent release of Blackenstein,...

[Editors Note: Given that we've already reviewed the Vinegar Syndrome release of Graduation Day and both discs are virtually identical bar the extras, we thought we'd review the Major difference between the two Blu-ray releases - the bonus feature on the UK disc, the documentary Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed]
It’s fair to say I’m a sucker for scream queen “documentaries”. Be they the T&A filled features such as Scream Queen Hollywood Hot Tub Party, more amateur-hour productions such as Donald Farmer’s shot-on-video Invasion of the Scream Queens, or the awesome scream queen interviews that featured in Stephen King’s World of Horror – if it features an interview with a scream queen then I’m there. I’m also a fan of the documentaries and Blu-ray extras produced by High Rising Productions – including their previously released slasher movie documentary: Slice and Dice: The Slasher Movie Forever.
Put the two together and… I’m in filmic heaven!

James Gunn made the movie that ruled the summer, which is really fucking weird. Not because he isn’t talented (because he is), but because his rise to prominence doesn’t make mathematical sense. The odds were astronomical. To think about it in the worst way possible, Lloyd Kaufman — the founder of Troma — is still hustling Troma films wherever he can while his Tromatic protege has the #1 movie of the year. He’s a bona fide mainstream success who got his start rewriting Shakespeare so that Juliet becomes a monster with a giant dick. Now, the world has officially gotten his dick message. But to try to nail down Gunn’s style is impossible. Beyond the genre fuckery of Troma which has proven itself to be a borrowed language, Gunn has also written and/or directed stripped-down horror, a surprisingly family friendly series where a talking dog solves mysteries and a hero satire that’s far smarter...

This football season, Hogeye High’s Warriors and cheerleaders are out for blood. Unfortunately, someone is out for theirs, and they’ll be forced to take one for the team. After the big Halloween football match, the students are joined by an uninvited guest dressed as their high school mascot armed with a bow and arrow, a battle-axe, and an insatiable appetite for butchery. Soon, they find themselves fighting for more than the winning score as terror becomes the name of the game. Released in 1981, Graduation Day has become a favourite of slasher movie fans thanks to its plasma-spurting set pieces, maniacal mystery-killer storyline and a cast of cult celebrities that includes Christopher George (City of the Living Dead), Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune) and the perennially topless Scream Queen Linnea Quigley. Now set for a Blu-ray release, with a stunning print restored and re-mastered from a colourful 4k scan, from the folks at 88 Films, Graduation Day will arrive in the UK with an array of newly created special features from High Rising Productions including a new feature length documentary entitled Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed.
