A new year has finally arrived and HBO Max is set to open it with a bang. With its list of new releases for January 2022, HBO Max is rolling out some intriguing original series and an absolutely packed slate of library titles.
The real highlight this month comes on Jan. 13 with the release of Peacemaker. Developed by James Gunn, this series spins off John Cena’s titular character from last years’ The Suicide Squad. The show will delve into the pathology of a superhero who will achieve peace regardless of how many people need to be killed to attain it.
Also of note this month are second seasons for two major HBO series. Euphoria season 2 and The Righteous Gemstones season 2 both premiere on Jan. 9, making for quite the odd double feature. Meanwhile, the fifth and final season of superb comedy Search Party arrives on Jan. 7.
January 2022 is light as far as original movies go.

Comedian Anthony “Aj” Johnson was remembered Monday by the writers of his movie “Friday,” Ice Cube and DJ Pooh.
Shortly after news of Johnson’s death broke, Ice Cube called the late actor a “naturally funny dude who was straight outta Compton at the same time.” He added that he wished he could have brought back Johnson’s “Friday” character, Ezal, for the upcoming sequel film “Last Friday.”
Writer DJ Pooh said in a tweet, “Rest easy Aj,” while also sharing a Gif of Johnson running down the street with stolen merch in his arms, as seen in “Friday.”
Other stars also paid their respects to the late comedian, who, according to his reps, died earlier this month. No cause of death was revealed.
In addition to appearing in “Friday” in 1995, Johnson got his big break with the role of E.Z.E. in 1990’s “House Party.” His other notable...

Silver Linings Playbook star Chris Tucker, once the world's highest paid actor, talks about what drew him to acting and why he's back after a five-year break
Chris Tucker is an actor who will for ever be associated with one, salient fact. Specifically: that he was, for a brief moment, the highest paid actor in the world. This was for Rush Hour 3, the third, but possibly not final instalment in the big-grossing action franchise of the 90s for which he was paid $25m (£15.75m). The film proved him to be, arguably, the greatest physical comedian of his generation and, inarguably, its best remunerated.
After watching his hyper-animated, bug-eyed, wisecracking, body-popping turns as Lapd Detective James Carter – foil to Jackie Chan's self-contained police inspector Lee – it is hard to believe this subdued, polite guy in black shirt and suit, speaking softly at a hotel suite conference table, is the same person.

Her friend and co-star, Shar Jackson took to Twitter to share the news. "I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers but god has taken my sister Yvette home."
Before her big break on Moesha alongside Brandy Norwood, Wilson was a regular on Russell Simmon’s Def Comedy Jam and attended San Jose State University in California. Wilson also appeared in several movies including House Party 2, House Party 3,...

Since Rush Hour (and then, the totally unnecessary sequels to Rush Hour), Chris Tucker seems to have spent the last four years in a cave in Pakistan. But this August, he'll return to the spotlight and to his comedic roots; he recently announced his first stand-up tour in over a decade. Tucker debuted in the early 90's on HBO's Def Comedy Jam, becoming a popular regular known for his audacious material and over-the-top delivery. Catching the attention of Hollywood studios, Tucker made his acting debut in the lackluster House Party 3 but gained momentum and greater film recognition as Smokey, the pot-loving sidekick to Ice Cube in the comedy classic Friday. Hitting a peak as the funny man partner to Jackie Chan in the Rush Hour series, Tucker seemed to lose steam and hasn't appeared in a film since. The question is, will he be funny? He [...]...

Whew, where to start. It’s a tough category to gauge with the wide range of junk on all fronts of cinema in general, but this is a subject I have had running through out my mind, since day one of writing for this site. Scrolling down the categories of which to label and stipulate what the written piece of information would fall under, I saw a tag of Worst Black Film. This stamp was burned into my mind for so long and started to run the rolodex of junk I had seen, and also some I needed to still witness, because let’s face it, Tyler Perry is still popping shit out, two a year.
But this is also a tough criteria to tackle as I tend to like crap and junk in general. The campy, sappy and overblown, overacted ridiculousness that flickers at us can be overall fun.
