Zack Norman, a veteran character and producer who appeared in films including Romancing The Stone, Cadillac Man and several for director Harry Jaglom along with guested on The Nanny, The A-Team, Baywatch and other series, died April 28 of natural causes. He was 83.
His son-in-law Jeff Briller confirmed the news to Deadline.
Born Howard Zuker on May 27, 1940, Norman received an executive Mba from Harvard Business School before embarking entering show business. He performed as a comedian through the latter half of the 1960s and working the Playboy Clubs, the Flamingo and Copacabana with the Temptations. He made his TV debut in 1969 doing stand-up on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
He made about a half-dozen films in the 1970s before working on a pair of memorable ’80s films: He had a small role in Milos Forman’s Ragtime (1981) before being cast as Cousin Ira in Robert Zemeckis’ Romancing the Stone (1984). His character uttered the oft-quoted line,...

Zack Norman, the stand-up comic, actor and producer perhaps best known for his turn as a crocodile-loving antiquities smuggler in Romancing the Stone, has died. He was 83.
Norman died Sunday night of natural causes at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, his family announced.
Norman collaborated frequently with director Henry Jaglom, with the two working together on Tracks (1976), Sitting Ducks (1980), Venice/Venice (1992), Babyfever (1994), Déjà Vu (1997), Festival in Cannes (2001), Hollywood Dreams (2006), Irene in Time (2009), Queen of the Lot (2010), The M Word (2014) and Ovation (2015).
In Robert Zemeckis’ action-adventure Romancing the Stone (1984), starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, Norman and Danny DeVito play the smuggling cousins Ira and Ralph, respectively.
“Look at those snappers,” Ira says in admiration whenever he sees a croc.
(He and Douglas would get into a legal spat over a company that they co-founded.)

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

Earlier this year, Max announced it would be housing over 200 episodes of AMC Networks’ television at no additional cost to subscribers beginning in September.

A number of great horror titles are leaving at the end of October as well, including: “A Cabin in the Woods,” “Beetlejuice,” “Eight Legged Freaks,” “From Hell,” “It” and “It: Chapter 2,” and several more. They’ll be great to put on while you host your Halloween bash.

This past summer, as Hollywood faced its second major strike, the president of actors union SAG-AFTRA took the podium. She was without makeup, she was raspy and she was pissed. Gone was the ozone-shattering hairspray and the wild prints plucked right from the zoo. Nowhere in earshot was the dog whistle voice and the dolphin laugh. This was Fran Drescher: not the street-smart bimbo of somehow successful sitcoms and expectedly by-the-numbers romances, but the woman who will do anything to show her loyalty and not back down from anything. She had done it throughout her career through battles with industry execs and cancer, and now she was doing it against some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Wtf Happened to…Fran Drescher?
But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Fran Drescher, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning began when she was born on September 30th,...

The episode of Revisited covering Species was Written by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Kier Gomes, Edited by Joseph Wilson, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The 1990s were famous for Alien Invasion films. Independence Day, The X-Files Movie, Alien 3 and Mars Attacks all come to mind. Yes, those are all great but what about Roger Donaldson’s classic 1995 creature feature Species (watch it Here)? Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the beautiful Natasha Henstridge and this being her first acting role. She’s an absolute terror and force to be reckoned with here. Species is something of a cult classic and one we need to talk about. So, on this episode of Horror Revisited, let’s dive back into one of the better Sci-fi 90s films.

And just like that, winter has come again. HBO Max’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by the return of the king. Or more accurately: the return of the queen … of the Seven Kingdoms.
Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Aug. 21, just over three years after Game of Thrones concluded in controversial fashion with “The Iron Throne.” This new series is a prequel, depicting the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons from George R.R. Martin’s lore. When dragon fights dragon, the realm will be torn asunder. But the viewer will certainly delight in all the Targaryen action.

Annabella Sciorra has been set to star in “Fresh Kills,” an upcoming feature film set in the world of organized crime.
Jennifer Esposito is writing and directing the film, marking her feature directorial debut. She will also act in “Fresh Kills” alongside Sciorra.
Inspired by Esposito’s upbringing in Staten Island, “Fresh Kills” tells the suspenseful story about the loyal women behind the mob men who loomed over New York City in the late 20th century. Sciorra will play a widow named Christine, and Esposito will portray her protective older sister Francine Larusso.
“Fresh Kills” will have nontraditional financing; the project intends to be the first feature film to be funded and traded by a global group of fan investors. It will be financed by an offering on the Upstream Exchange, which on Thursday announced a $3.5 million IPO. Upstream is a digital stock exchange powered by Horizon Fintex and Merj Exchange Limited.

Spooky season is upon us, and Hulu is getting into the spirit with a number of horror or Halloween-themed offerings on its October line-up.
Along with Hulu originals like the horror anthology “Into the Dark” and the second season of Stephen King’s “Castle Rock,” the streamer is also offering films from the “Saw,” “Blade” and “Hellraiser” franchises beginning next month. For the more faint of heart, Hulu is also offering three seasons of Food Network’s “Halloween Wars” and the surely adorable “Kids Halloween Baking Championship.”
Not specifically Halloween-themed, but potentially haunting: All six seasons of the original run of “The Hills” will be available to stream on Oct. 1 for those looking to revisit the halcyon days of reality television and questionable late-aughts fashion.

No Way Out has been one of my favorite thrillers since first seeing it in the late ’80s, and it’s a film I happily re-watch whenever the opportunity arises. Kevin Costner was at his prime here, sandwiched between the likes of Silverado, The Untouchables, Bull Durham, and Field of Dreams, and he delivers a terrifically layered performance as a man at the center of a rushed conspiracy. It’s a suspenseful, fast-moving thriller strengthened by sharp writing, great performances, and a stellar foot chase. The film has been absent on Blu-ray, but now thanks to the fine folks at Shout! Factory we can finally enjoy it in HD. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that the film made my list of 10 Movies We Demand on Blu-ray, or Else! last year, but I don’t need accolades — this classic on Blu-ray is thank you enough. The only special feature on the disc is a new commentary...

If you live in a decent-sized city, much less a metropolis, you probably see someone like George every day. Having fallen on hard times, George lives on the street; if he's not able to procure a bed at the chaotic, prison-like local shelter, he's apt to be sleeping in a cardboard box or, if he's lucky, the basement of an apartment building he's snuck into. He spends his days shuffling around the city, occasionally panhandling for change. A winter coat he's picked up from a church is pawned for money for a bottle.

"Suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems." - Robin Williams, "World's Greatest Dad" This is a very emotional "Ask Drew." This is, I would suspect, the closest you're ever going to see to me losing it on camera completely. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when there was a Robin Williams question, since it's still so fresh and so raw for so many people, but I couldn't have known just how hard it would be to talk about him. I mean, I have stared at the blinking cursor on my blank document page for almost two days now, grappling with one question: how in the hell do you even remotely begin to sum up someone as huge as Robin Williams? We could start from the personal angle. I could tell you about the occasional e-mails I got from him when I was at Ain't It Cool, or the...

A is for Aladdin
Starting with Cadillac Man and ending with Bicentennial Man, Robin Williams made 27 films over the course of the 90s. That's a whole spectrum of Robin Williamses: kooky (Mrs Doubtfire), mournful (What Dreams May Come), creepy (Jack) and annoying (again, Bicentennial Man). Yet the most 90s Robin Williams performance of all is his turn as the Genie in Disney's Aladdin, in which he is allowed to blabber and gibber and yelp and riff about nothing at a mile a minute for ages. It's brilliant, but exhausting. Remember, this film had two sound editors. Pray for them.

Director Roger Donaldson has tried his hand at many different genres over the years; sci-fi (Species), disaster movie (Dante’s Peak), remake (The Getaway), comedy (Cadillac Man), historical epic (The Bounty) and ‘80s guilty pleasure (Cocktail) but one genre that he keeps returning to is the conspiracy thriller. His 1987 film No Way Out made Kevin Costner a star and was a tense Pentagon set thriller with killer twists. In 2003 he revisited the genre with the Colin Farrell and Al Pacino starring The Recruit which once again proved he was adept at handling the twists and turns of the genre. For his latest film, Justice starring Nicolas Cage and Guy Pearce released on Blu-ray and DVD this week, he returns for another crack at the conspiracy genre posing the question, what would you do?

Dexter season 4 starts in the UK! Apart from some good movies, that's about all that's worth looking forward to on British telly this week. Here's our round-up...
In the week that UK TV viewers have the least telly news and choices to ponder, we also face our greatest challenge. For tonight, Friday August 20th, the deliciously dark drama that is Dexter starts its fourth season, and it's an especially unnerving one that will have you wishing your weeks away over its 12 episode run. While, in just a few weeks' time, the launch of the fifth season fires up in the States.
If you've managed to remain oblivious, it'll be hard work to enjoy this new season without the ending being spoiled by the rampant headlines, forum posts, comment sections and images bound to be round every click and turn of sites across the virtual landscape, heralding in the fifth outing...

Polish film and TV star Elzbieta Czyzewska has lost her battle with esophageal cancer. She was 72.
Czyzewska died at a Manhattan, New York hospital on Thursday.
She rose to fame as a national sex symbol in Poland after starring in 1961 film Erotica and became the most popular actress in the country during the 1960s.
She starred in a critically acclaimed Polish production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons, but her career took a turn after her marriage to the American journalist David Halberstam made her an outcast in her home country, when he was accused of slander against the government.
The couple was expelled from Poland and fled to the U.S., where Czyzewska established herself as a stage actress, including a starring role in a 1974 production of The Possessed, alongside a then-unknown Meryl Streep and Christopher Durang.
On film, her credits included smaller roles in Putney Swope, Running on Empty, Cadillac Man and A Kiss Before Dying. She also made appearances on TV in shows like Sex and the City, Third Watch, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Damages.
In May 2005, she was honoured with the Cultural Award of Merit by the Consul General of the New York Polish Consulate - the highest award for a Polish American to receive.
Her marriage to author Halberstam ended in divorce in 1977.

Mongrels, Jason Manford, The Pandorica Opens and some corking movies star in this week's guide to the next seven days of UK TV...
Another short list week and, again, it seems only comedy is brave enough to take on the World Cup with series kickoffs.
Jason Manford: Live helps us see the funny side of life and urinals on Saturday, 19th June at 10:00pm on Channel 4 with a hometown performance in Manchester filmed in 2009.
Then on Tuesday, 22nd June, the first of an eight-part "urban multi-species adult puppet comedy" series, Mongrels, starts up at 10:00pm on BBC3. BBC2's animal-based animated series of 2004, I Am Not An Animal, had celebrity voices like Steve Coogan and Simon Pegg behind the inky animals, where Mongrels looks to focus on TV personalities playing in the mix among the puppets, voiced by Paul Kaye, Katy Brand and other comedic actors.

True Blood and Outnumbered come to the end of their current runs in the UK, Ashes To Ashes begins its final two-parter, and there's a whole lot of movies to pick from too...
If there's any shrubbery in the vicinity, it won't be us who's beating about it. Telly this week is not the exciting landscape it's been in weeks past, with a typical lull between bookended bank holidays.
Sure there are plenty of good shows to watch, but as far as new shows taking off this week, the launch pad is barren.
Two shows finish their runs over the next seven days with the season finale of the always exciting True Blood tonight at 10:00pm on FX. The episode is Beyond Here Lies Nothin' and closes the second season of the vampire and mind-reading waitress chronicles at a major town gathering orchestrated by Maryann, where a special and powerful guest is expected.

Perseverance Records ("the small label with a big mission") will soon release a new edition of J. Peter Robinson's music to the John Schlesinger thriller The Believers. In this supernatural thriller Martin Sheen plays a psychiatrist with an interest in a voodoo cult which plans to use his son as their next sacrifice during their ritual. The score was already released once on LP by Varése Sarabande when the movie came out in 1987, but this new re-issue will contain the complete score. The following interview is pulled together from the liner notes of Rudy Koppl as well as original interview conducted by me on the celebration of the new CD issue. Learn more about what it was like to work with John Schlesinger and what kind of new music will appear on the complete edition - including cues that Varése didn't allow to be put on the LP back in the days!

Here's one from the nostalgia books; Robin Williams in one of his earlier roles, but I have to admit, not one of his strongest roles. What was supposed to be a "comedy" or "dramatic comedy" of sorts, turned out to be nothing but that (I don't know what to call it, but it was no comedy that's for sure). I've seen Robin Williams in most of his movies and this one is not his best. What's wrong with "Cadillac Man"? Well, how much time do you have because there's plenty. As a whole, the movie isn't completely awful, but there are alot of holes in it which were never filled. Williams plays a Cadil...
