Episodes 5 and 6 take the Blade Runner resemblance to the breaking point and feature the exact same story, with some of the scenes copied almost verbatim; and even some of Vangelis's score is stolen. (specifically "MegaTokyo 2032")
There are many references to Blade Runner:
- The band is called "The Replicants";
- The general mission in both is to kill androids who are almost too human;
- There happen to be characters named Leon and Priss in both;
- Both feature a huge, pyramid-shaped building.
A duty roster that appears in episode 8 reveals that the AD Police apparently employed many of the artists who worked for Marvel Comics during the 1980s.
Early in episode three, a computerized map of Megatokyo appears. It is heavily annotated in English, using the names of actors and characters who appeared in Top Gun (1986) and Aliens.
In episode 7, the movie showing in the drive-in appears to be a remake of Robocop, with Vision playing the part of Murphy.
