Actress Piya Valecha of ‘Imlie’ fame revealed that her following of two million followers on Instagram doesn’t help her get performance oriented shows to act. However, she agrees that it helps in bagging reality shows.
Piya said: “Followers mostly on your Instagram account definitely make a lot of difference these days. In terms of casting, especially reality shows. But good and big shows on bigger platforms still need your performance and talent.”
“While I enjoy the love and appreciation of two million fans on my Instagram account, that has only bought me casting calls for reality shows. I’m an actor and I want to entertain my audience with my art. But I don’t see any good roles or scripts coming to me looking at my followers,” the actress said.

In the nearly four decades since the first live-action film starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger, another adaptation of Dynamite Entertainment's "Red Sonja" has failed to materialize in Hollywood — but it's not for lack of trying. Robert Rodriguez once had a vision that included Rose McGowan in the titular role. Before allegations of sexual assault were brought to light, Bryan Singer was also in line to helm a project based on the character originally created for Marvel Comics in 1973 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith. And the third attempt in recent history included "Ant-Man and the Wasp" star Hannah John-Kamen as the lead and "Transparent" creator Joey Soloway in the director's chair.

A great way to celebrate Pride this year is with The Signifyin’ Works of Marlon Riggs, a Criterion Collection box set that pays tribute to an essential voice in LGBTQ+ cinema and Black filmmaking. Before his death of HIV/AIDS complications in 1994, Riggs created a vital body of work that includes the sensual and poetic “Tongues Untied” — a film decried on the senate floor by Jesse Helms, and recommendations don’t come much higher — the incisive documentary “Color Adjustment,” about the history of Black characters on American TV, and brilliantly moving personal and experimental films like “Black Is… Black Ain’t” and “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien (No Regrets).” This compilation of a singular artistic voice belongs in every library.

Welcome back to Let’s Scare Bryan to Death, where I’m thrilled to be talking to one of the great voices working in horror journalism today, Terry Mesnard. Be it through his website Gayly Dreadful or through Scarred for Life, the podcast he co-hosts with Marybeth McAndrews, Mesnard’s analysis is always intelligent, deliberate, and playful.
Not surprisingly, before nominating a film to discuss, Mesnard did a little research to look at the movies I’ve covered in past installments. Given that so far I’ve covered films ranging from Brian De Palma staples to classic J-horror to queer giallo flicks, Mesnard had just one thought: “Bryan really needs to class up his column.” Enter the 1991 James Cummins horror comedy The Boneyard, a film that I had not even heard of before Mesnard suggested it. But when I saw the cover, featuring what appeared to be some sort of mutant poodle,...

Fremantle India is best known as the home of local versions of Fremantle’s global formats, including “Indian Idol,” “India’s Got Talent,” and “The X Factor India.”
But, the company has been actively telling stories that challenge the status quo. And, having enjoyed success with the approach, it plans to expand the effort.
“That status quo could be gender, caste, creed or color,” Fremantle India managing director Aradhana Bhola told Variety. Pointing to the current season of “Indian Idol,” its 12th, Bhola says that participants are from backgrounds traditionally discriminated against in India including the economically challenged, LGBTQ+, and a talented singer who was ostracized because of her dark skin. In contemporary India, lighter coloured skin is preferred even in many so-called liberal families and communities.
Fremantle India says it makes a point to seek out the marginalized and to empower them by putting them under the national spotlight.

Happy 2021, everyone! It’s been a few weeks, but we’re back with a brand-new edition of our weekly Blu-ray and DVD releases column to kick off this new year. And while we may not have a ton of titles headed home on Tuesday, we do have an excellent bunch of films all the same, including one of my favorite films of 2020, Love and Monsters, which hits various formats this week. Another film from last year that I really enjoyed was Brea Grant’s 12 Hour Shift, which hits both Blu-ray and DVD (and will be available On Demand) tomorrow, and if you have somehow never seen it, I highly recommend picking up the new Blu for Savage Streets, featuring Linda Blair.
Other releases for January 5th include Tintorera… Tiger Shark, From the Depths, Nina of the Woods, and Hacksaw.

Exclusive: Ten years ago this week, James Cameron big gambit payed off with the historic release of Avatar, a truly singular screen spectacle that took moviegoers to distant Pandora and in the process “changed the way we thought about movies, the way we thought about movie-making, even the way we thought about the movie screen,” says Stephen Lang, who memorably portrayed the 1999 sci-fi epic’s glowering heavy, Col. Miles Quaritch.
Lang returns to the military-man role in Cameron’s long-awaited sequel, Avatar 2, which Disney-owned 20th Century Fox has now scheduled for release one year from this Saturday: Dec. 21, 2021. That means Avatar 2’s opening weekend will arrive seven years later than Cameron’s originally announced target date, which makes the interplanetary saga the cinematic equivalent of a Guns N’ Roses album.

While shooting Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, there were two separate scripts labeled “Code Red” and “Code Blue”. Code Red was the real script and Code Blue was the fake one. This is one of the things Marvel did to help prevent real details from the film from leaking out.
Well, Marvel Studio has released a very fun new featurette that brings these fake alternate script scenes to life in animated form. These fake scenes include Loki projecting himself as a way to escape Thanos; a strange puppet version of Gamora giving Thanos the Soul Stone; a scene where Vision reboots after Thanos rips the Infinity Stone from his head; and there’s a scene of Thanos falling asleep after Thor smashes him with Stormbreaker.
These are some of the main fake scenes that were written for that Code Blue script, but it gives you an idea of some...

I can’t get enough of those murderous, irascible brats; The Bad Seed (1956) started it for me, and then those weirdo, virginal birth alien kids from Village of the Damned (1960) sealed the deal – kids can’t be trusted. This brings us back to the ‘70s, and before we get to wee Damien, we’re babysitting Devil Times Five (1974), a thriller that goes from low-key creepy to wtf over the span of 88 minutes.
Originally released as Peopletoys in May, it was re-released in June as The Horrible House on the Hill, and then re-re-released in October of ’76 as Devil Times Five. This indecisiveness is par for the course of this production as original (and credited) director Sean MacGregor (Gentle Savage) was booted from the project for only coughing up 38 minutes of usable footage, and veteran producer David Sheldon (Grizzly) was brought in to overhaul and finish things up. Protestors gathered on Thursday to protest the dismissal of Wics-tv meteorologist Joe Crain, the same day that the Springfield, Ill. station confirmed his departure.
“Joe Crain is no longer with the station,” Wics general manager Rick Lipps confirmed to TheWrap. Lipps did not state which day Crain left, but the weatherman last appeared on air June 5, when he criticized the station’s “Code Red” graphics in a lengthy diatribe, which readers can watch via the video above.
“When you hear ‘Code Red,’ you think, ‘The feces is about to hit the fan,'” Crain said while standing next to the bold graphic. “We want you to know it’s not us. This is a corporate initiative … behind the scenes many of us have tried to dissuade it for the last few months,” he told viewers, urging them to speak up with their concerns to Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns the station.

Illinois meteorologist Joe Crain might have lost the battle – and his job – over his stand-taking against alarmist “Code Red” weather warnings, but his former employer – Sinclair Broadcast Group’s Springfield channel Wics – has replaced the silly doomsday wording with the less sensationalist “Weather Warn.”
Whether the wording changes the prolific use of the scare tactic remains to be seen, but Crain’s firing at the very least has drawn national attention: Stephen Colbert squeezed an entire comic bit out of the situation for his CBS Late Show (watch it above).
In mock-irate high dudgeon – “I’m as wet as hell and I’m not going to forget my umbrella anymore!,” he said, adding, “Where’s my Tony, Cranston?” – Colbert decried the local news practice of using weather-related scare tactics.

Allan Cole, a screenwriter, author and award-winning journalist, has died. He was 75. The WGA said he died Friday, in Boca Raton, Fl, after battling cancer.

The son of a CIA operative, Cole was born in Philadelphia and moved around with his family before settling in California.

Marvel Studios has an enviably tough wall of secrecy around its major movies, to the point where even those involved in the production often have no idea of the bigger picture.
In Avengers: Infinity War, for instance, the studio even went so far as to ensure that practically no cast members ever had access to the full script. They obviously had the pages they were involved in, but even those had multiple versions that were shot, meaning they would have no idea which edition would make it into the movie.
So, it’s probably no surprise that Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, and Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis are claiming they “know nothing” about Avengers 4 – though given that both of their characters are (apparently) dead, that might not actually come as such a shock.

Laura Gemser is an actress known to very few moviegoers in the States nowadays. In the 1970s and 1980s, however, she was well-known for her Emanuelle series, which followed the better-known Silvia Kristel Emmanuelle variety, the difference between both women being the exclusion of one “m” in the title. Emmanuelle and the Deadly Black Cobra is a 1976 effort by Joe D’Amato, the man responsible for many other entertaining European trash films (I use that as a term of endearment). Unlike Ms. Gemser’s past Emanuelle films, this one is a curiosity as it inexplicably has two “m’s” and is really just an excuse to dangle the director’s lithe leading lady in front of the camera in various stages of undress. The plot, if you can even call it such, is really rather silly.

Doppelgänger Releasing teams up with Scorpion Releasing (and Code Red, in some fashion – more on that below) to release the standard Blu-Ray release (again, more on that below) of Dario Argento’s Opera. This is the first of out of the three films Doppelgänger & Scorpion will be putting out in the next couple of months for Argento and Soavi fans, with Soavi’s The Sect & The Church to follow, so let’s take a look at this release.

Depending on who you talk to, Opera is often considered director Dario Argento’s “swan song”. Other films that may be considered his “swan song” could be Trauma or The Stendhal Syndrome but for me, I feel Opera is Argento’s last grandiose film with some great set pieces.

Code Red has been going “code blue” of late, releasing the likes of Nail Gun Massacre and Just Before Dawn on Blu-ray. We now know of seven more forthcoming Blu horror titles from the 70s, 80s, and 90s they have in the works to further empty your wallets in the coming year.
