- The original theatrical version featured a long sequence of the foam being pumped into the hull of the Titanic, which is mentioned in the screenplay earlier. Shortly after the film began to get the horrid reviews and poor box office, there were edits made to the film and new prints sent to theaters, in a failed attempt to tighten the film a bit. These scenes have not been included in any of the VHS or DVD releases.
- A Network Blu-ray release of the film features a booklet with notes and photos. In this booklet on page 10, there is a set photo that depicts a different ending at the Southby graveyard. The grave has been thoroughly dug which indicates that the Byzanium was recovered after all. This is more accurate to the ending of the book. Another difference that the photo shows is Pitt wearing his warm brown leather coat instead of the same beige trench coat that Seagram has. It could be speculated that the ending was rewritten to give Seagram's character more depth with the dilemma to choose whether to potentially let the ore be used as a weapon of mass destruction or to leave it undisturbed.
- In the original theatrical release, there is a scene between Pitt (Richard Jordan) and Dana (Anne Archer) where they discuss Seagram (David Selby). This scene is missing from all video and DVD releases.
