There’s no question that Rodney King was brutally beaten by Los Angeles Police Department officers – video taken of the savage act proves it. Yet the four men seen clubbing King were acquitted by a Simi Valley jury in 1992, lighting a match for one of the deadliest and costliest civil unrests in U.S. history.

It’s 25 years later, and Los Angeles – and the Lapd – have changed. But has the rest of the country? Regular reports of police brutality, now well-documented in an age of phone cameras, makes it clear that we haven’t come all that far. Several new documentaries explore the L.A. riots, including the underlying reasons, the actual events, what happened next, and how it relates to today. Among the filmmakers putting their own...

There’s been times recently I feel as though I’m in an Animus myself. What with finally getting around to playing Assassin’s Creed IV on my PS4, going to see the Assassin’s Creed movie, reading the Black Flag novelization, and reading all the comic book issues as they come out. If nothing else, it gives a pretty good indication that this is a very solid multi-media franchise, as I’m sure I’m not alone. The comic book series have been as good as anything out there so far, so let’s hope this new title lives up to the hype.
I say ‘new’, but this book is actually a mash up of two former series that were recently wrapped up. Assassin’s Creed featured Charlotte de la Cruz, a novice recruited into...

Sky Sports News has always operated at an incredible pace. The idea of creating a channel dedicated to sports-related news sent out 24/7 is highly ambitious.
A recent invite to the new Sky Sports News HQ revealed just how much of a challenge it really is, and also uncovered some hidden gems about the inner workings of Sky's sports setup.
The new studio
Sky Sports itself has relaunched on channel 401 as Sky Sports News HQ, and with that comes a new-look studio.
Close to twice the size of the last Sky Sports setup, the first thing you notice when you walk into the new studio is an 18-square metre video wall.
Set opposite the presenters' desk, it acts a huge means for Sky to show off the current goings-on in sports. Surrounding this are a number of fixed cameras, as well as some robotic cameras which can be controlled remotely.

In "news" that was leaked weeks ago, Los Angeles real estate agent Josh Flagg, one of the stars of Bravo's Million Dollar Listing, officially came out on Tuesday night's episode. While it's always great when anyone comes out, the news that Flagg is gay was greeted mostly with shrugs, probably for a variety of reasons.
For starters, Flagg wasn't exactly in the closet except on Million Dollar Listing. He's been seen around L.A. with boyfriend Colton Thorn a number of times at public events where their attendance as a couple was reported, and he specifically introduced Thorn as his boyfriend during one interview available on YouTube since last year (as opposed to some Hollywood stars living in the glass closet who have never made any public acknowledgment of their same-sex partner and decline to answer the question when asked).
For another thing, gay visibility on television is drastically improved...

A SAG strike in the upcoming negotiating cycle is “difficult to envision,” a source from SAG’s moderate faction, Unite for Strength, told me, though he/she cautioned that avoiding one will require that management negotiate reasonably and he/she wouldn’t take the strike option off the table (as, indeed, no union could).
The source also said SAG’s upcoming January 31 national board meeting will probably feature a move towards resurrecting joint bargaining with AFTRA, adding that he/she was confident that bargaining later this year would indeed be jointly conducted. If the board does act on January 31, look for AFTRA’s board to respond at its February 27 meeting.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, suggested the SAG-AFTRA unity move might come in the form of a resolution committing SAG to engage in joint bargaining and empowering someone – David White (SAG’s National Executive Director), Ken Howard...
