Sex & Nudity

  • A shirtless man lies over a clothed woman in bed. They kiss. Nothing else happens. We do see her standing near the bed talking wearing an oversized shirt and panties, although we see no nudity on her.
  • There are 2 scenes with brief nudity. One of a woman escaping an attack and another remembrance scene with a nude woman floating in air. Alien creature has an orifice that is rather like female genitalia, very strange allusion.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is stabbed to death.
  • Several people commit suicide under the control of a mysterious force though nothing is very graphic.
  • A man begins to struggle and collapse, possibly because of a heart attack, and then dies after the insinuation it's being caused by something else.
  • Several intense scenes of people killing large groups of people without much detail.
  • A man collapses in an industrial elevator and is presumably decapitated offscreen.
  • A man slits the throat of another man on a pool table before stabbing another to death and finally cutting his own neck.
  • Movie starts out with people being shotdown on the street by a sniper, scary for a young person

Profanity

  • No strong language, though there is some mild.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • It was filmed in 1976 so of course there is smoking. Not much drinking though

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Religious concepts confused with alien abductions would be rather confusing for younger children.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • The way the old woman's abduction scenario plays out is very similar to a rape, down to her trauma response after the policeman grabs her.
  • A hermaphroditic extraterrestrial creature with psychic powers reveals to the lead character that they are of similar origin. They then lift their cloak to reveal a vaginal orifice in their abdomen and offer to carry the lead's children and begin a new species. Probably the most bizarre and explicit scene of the film.

Violence & Gore

  • A police officer suddenly pulls out a gun and shoots a man (no blood shown). He then shoots multiple other people with brief blood spurting from the bullet holes before he himself is shot and killed (off-screen).
  • It is insinuated that a character's psychic power in the past has caused his wife's miscarriages.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The bizarre third act twist involving extraterrestrials and a cult of wealthy white men who seem to worship them may be a jarring revaluation to some viewers.
