Rufus happens upon a promising songwriter and persuades Bert to represent. Claudia's former boyfriend is now a record producer and Bert convinces him the diner is a chain. An order of 3,000 rolls is the result.
When Dan's interrogation methods are deemed unlawful in court, a drug smuggler whom Jack and Dan busted months ago is set free. Despite the absence of department resources, an unfettered Dan vows to bring down the entire smuggling ring using only the money in his pocket.
Rufus starts predicting the future which in the beginning is harmless fun. But when Rufus foresees Bert having a terrible accident he tries to protect his friend from any disaster.

Henry Arsdale, Claudia's wealthy father, visits and make it clear he disapproves that his daughter works in a diner. Bert and Rufus try to cheer Claudia up along with showing Henry the eatery isn't that bad.
