Thumbing it
CuriosityKilledShawn17 August 2006
The Pink Panther is ambitious enough to attempt to hitchhike his way to Anaheim, California despite the fact that it's over 1500. The reason why he wants to go there is never explained and he's not having much luck finding sympathetic drivers willing to take him this massive distance.

A nearby horse laughs at him, so Pinky has the brilliant idea of riding the horse all the way. But the horsey is having none of it and the rest of the cartoon is made up of Pinky's various attempts at mounting it. A thin excuse for some slight gags. One of them involves Pinky falling off a cliff and landing in a puff of smoke like Wile E. Coyote (director Hawley Pratt was involved in several RoadRunner cartoons). But the very end in which the horse gets the very last laugh makes up for the rest of the tedium.

Funny panther, despicable horse!
OllieSuave-00714 September 2016
The Pink Panther wants to travel to Anaheim and is over 1,000 miles away. He tries to hitchhike but no cars will stop. Then, he spots a horse grazing and thinks that it will be his transportation to the city. Afterward, the lazy, deplorable horse keeps resisting the panther and, on a number of occasions, knocks him silly off his hide.

There are lots of slapstick humor moments and stuff, but the horse horse-laughing at the Pink Panther's expense gets rather old and annoying and you will wish you could knock him off his feet a couple of times. Too bad the panther gets the best of him in this one.

This picture begins around 112 miles west of San . . .
cricket3015 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . Antonio along U. S. Highway 290 West in K-i-m-b-l-e County, TX, which is 1250 miles East of Anaheim, CA, as the opening road sign attests. Apparently, there are no pinto ponies in California, given the solid white horse the "Nugget State" animators pair up with their film's title. Besides lacking the iconic brown splotches the American Paint Horse Association demands, Pink Panther's would-be ride's depiction also does not qualify as "dappled" or "spotted," let alone being a match for the leopard pattern denoted as Appaloosa. Words not only matter, but also their meanings. One cannot mix and match random nouns with bogus definitions. The Pink Panther should not be going out of his way to give the Youth of America wrong impressions.

Horsing About

Pink Panther Odyssey Part XXXII

Desperate to get to Anaheim, Pink degloves himself brutally and tries repeatedly to saddle a horse who looks suspiciously like the Little Man hideously transfigured. Suffice it to say, things don't go to plan and this leads to some fun, if surprisingly violent, slapstick.

A Lot Of 'Horse Laughs' In Here!
ccthemovieman-120 April 2007
I really laughed right near the beginning of this when the Pink Panther does a Claudette Colbert imitation. She had a famous scene with Clark Gable in "It Happened One Night" where she shows her legs in order to get a car to pick her and the hitchhiking Mr. Gable up.

Unfortunately for the Panther, his legs weren't as good as hers and the ploy doesn't work. The Panther, for some unexplainable reason (few things are ever explained in these wild and wacky cartoons) is hitchhiking 1,250 miles to Anaheim, Ca.

The PP spots a horse nearby (hence the title "Pinto") and gets the idea that he could ride the horse to California instead. The horse, however, has other ideas, doesn't cooperate in a number of humorous scenes, and mainly just gives our star a bunch of "horse laughs."

This was funny, another solid Panther animated short that was clever, colorful and just plain enjoyable.

The Pink Panther challenges the most challenging horse ever
Atreyu_II27 March 2009
This cartoon is a full plate for the original ideas it has and the good laughters it makes audiences give.

In this cartoon, the Pink Panther has to face a long journey but isn't having luck with transportation. In the meantime, he finds a very unusual and weird-looking horse. Apparently a humble horse, this horse represents a huge challenge for anyone who tries to ride it.

Pinky wants to ride home with the help of this horse. But the horse is very sly and doesn't make things any easy. Pinky tries everything to ride it, but the devilish (yet hilarious) horse always manages to ruin Pinky's ideas and whenever he does it, that is followed by horse laughs.

This horse is diabolic, yes, but not in an evil way. He's more of a wild and carefree horse. One that has a strong and challenging character, being also a very stubborn and determined horse, one that won't let anybody ride it easily and without a fight.

Colourful and entertaining, if a little predictable in story
TheLittleSongbird20 July 2013
Pinto Pink is not one of the gems from the Pink Panther cartoons, but at least it entertains which is more than good enough. The story is simple, not a problem as all the stories in Pinky's cartoons are, but also rather predictable and drags a tad in the middle. The falling down the cliff gag raises a smile, but has been done so many times in the Roadrunner cartoons that at the same time it is a kind of tiresome gag. The rest of the gags though are very clever and funny with good timing. The animation is elegant and colourful, with some very detailed and not too complicated drawing. The music sticks in your head for a long time and in a good way, the jazzy style suits it wonderfully and the theme tune is still worthy of its classic status. Pinky is a cool and likable character as always, with natural comic timing, but this is one of the few times where he is (slightly) overshadowed by his supporting character, here a very sly and quite hilarious horse, who gets its own way at the end.

All in all, predictable but also colourful and entertaining. 8/10 Bethany Cox
