The early bird gets the worm, the early man gets the trailer. Which is an appalling way to tell you that Aardman and Studiocanal have just released the first teaser trailer for Nick Park’s new film – Early Man.
The teaser poster was revealed yesterday showcased a number of iconic Aardman characters. Wallace, Gromit, those chickens from Chicken Run, Shaun and a collection of Sheep and leading the pack – Dug and Hognob. They are picking up the baton with this original film from Park and his Bristol team, and the trailer is a solid reminder of why we love their films.
The announcement also came with a number of additions to the cast. Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams were already signed on to lead the voice cast, but a number of British comedy legends have also been announced. Timothy Spall will play Chief Bobnar,...

Of the great movie romances, few are as enduring as the lusty interplay between human beings and the outlaw lifestyle. From Zorro to Scarface to Batman to Bonnie and Clyde, the devilish allure of seeking justice and fulfillment outside of convention and societal rubrics has fascinated audiences since the early days of film, and the idea of the outlaw remains as ripe for rumination and trigger-happy entertainment as ever.
The latest contribution to the ongoing filmic tradition is David Mackenzie’s rollicking Hell or High Water, a crafty life-of-crime tale that retains the hallmarks of the classic ‘70s Western while ultimately sobering them up a bit by acknowledging that old-school, pistol-totin’ bandits aren’t quite cut-out for these times. Modernity has spoiled all the fun: the 2008-09 financial crisis caused millions of desperate Americans, facetiously or not, to fantasize about robbing their local bank, but security cameras and cellphones have...

Hoverboards. Self-lacing shoes. Hologram movie theaters. These are the bright things of the future that were promised to us in “Back to the Future Part II” when Marty and Doc Brown traveled to October 21, 2015. We’re still waiting on all three of those, but there’s one 2015 trend that just might become reality: Wearing your pants inside-out. In “Back to the Future Part II,” Doc tells Marty, “All kids in the future wear their pants inside-out.” So Marty pulls out his jeans pockets to make his pants appear stylish, and, indeed, when he encounters his 17-year-old son, Marty McFly Jr., the kid is wearing his jeans inside-out. Now Irishman Ross O’Mullane has created Outties so you can rock the style of all the cool 2015 kids just in time for Back to the Future Day this October. A Kickstarter campaign for Outties launched today. You may be wondering, “Why buy...

Is Will Eno the absurdist Neil Simon? The 49-year-old playwright, a Pulitzer finalist in 2005 for Thom Pain (based on nothing), certainly has a gift for metaphysical one-liners, especially paraprosdokians, those jack-in-the-box epigrams that seem to lead one way before feinting another. Alas, in his first Broadway outing, it’s a gift he keeps giving till it hurts: The Realistic Joneses is a four-character play in which everyone talks like the deadpan comic Steven Wright. Try to guess which of the following lines are Wright’s and which Eno’s: 1. Ice cream is a dish best served cold.2. I intend to live forever; so far, so good.3. A hundred-year-old fake is still a real antique.4. The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.5. It’s impossible to be almost late. Perfectly turned though they are, and serviceable for standup, such jokes (the odd-numbered ones are Eno...

Auditioning is fun and exciting, and it’s also one of the most important things an actor does. But some people just can’t help but to try and make it insufferable. 1. The Early Bird. You got up at 6:00 a.m. to get there? That’s adorable. By 6:00 a.m., this actor had already been to the gym, cleaned their apartment, re-edited their resume, and signed up for the audition. Nice try though. 2. The Greek God or Goddess. We all try to look our best, but come on! How is it even fair to be that good looking? And what’s worse? They are the nicest person on the planet. How about giving us “normals” a chance. 3. The Clueless Monitor. Monitors are the lifeblood of an audition. When they are great, they can make everything run smoothly. But when they don’t follow the rules, it can ruin your day.

Being the first screener to land in Academy voters' mailboxes is a victory that sometimes brings more than just bragging rights -- especially for smaller films that might get lost in the crush later in the season. The early bird strategy has paid off handsomely for such performance-driven indies as "A Better Life" and "Frozen River" in the past, though it doesn't always get results: last year, TWC's "The Intouchables" didn't even wind up with a foreign-language nod. So, which screener was quickest on the draw this year? Jeff Nichols' coming-of-age tale "Mud" -- until recently, the year's highest-grossing art house...

This Ides of March, the only thing getting assassinated is millions of festivalgoers' eardrums at the now extended Ultra Music Festival in Miami's Bayfront Park.
Organizers are doubling down on the pleasure and fun, hosting not one but two weekends of Edm. But can the music fest possibly top last year's Skrillex set, Madonna's "Molly" debacle, and throwback performances by Kraftwork and New Order?
Time to break out the glow necklaces and shutter shades, and find out. Ultra's phase one lineup has been released for 2013, announcing 13 DJs and 13 live acts in addition to the previously announced DeadMaud5 and Swedish House Mafia, who will play both weekends as part of their farewell performance.
Watch the video tease above.
There's already plenty of untz-untz buzz that acts like Major Lazer, Crystal Castles, and Hot Chip are saddling up besides the standard set of mainstay performers that includes Tiesto and David Guetta.

The Massachusetts Independent Film Festival hopes to incorporate a couple of blocks of horror films in 2013 so if you're a budding indie filmmaker and have a project you'd like to submit, now's the time to do it! The 3rd annual Miff has officially announced its call for entries.
The early bird deadline is March 1, 2013, but if you're still putting the finishing touches on your film, don't worry. The regular deadline is May 1, 2013, with a late deadline of June 3, 2013.
Here's how Miff co-director Christopher Di Nunzio (he runs the fest with Jason Miller and Nolan Yee) describes it:

The early bird gets the worm, but on The Voice, he also uses up his Battle Round steals so early, he’s left going “D’oh!” when a talented vocalist gets rejected without a lifeline late in the game. The not-so-early bird, however, who’s not opposed to wearing terrifying Bret Michaels drag to rehearsals, takes the last wriggling straggler left in the competition — in this case a former backup singer for Lady Gaga whose melody choices were occasionally as scary as a week-old “meat dress.”

The screenplay for Underworld: Awakening was written by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Underworld: Evolution), John Hlavin ("The Shield"), and Allison Burnett (Gone, Fame). Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein are directing the Sony Screen Gems sequel that is scheduled to be in theatres on January 20th, 2012.
Synopsis

Season 2 of "The Sing-Off" was a big success for NBC last December and, arguably, it gave the network the confidence to move forward on its own entry into the reality singing competition genre against "American Idol" and "X Factor" with "The Voice" premiering in April.
So, it wasn't a surprise after averaging close to nine million viewers an episode that NBC gave it a Season 3 pick-up. Now, Zap2it learns that production is starting to ramp up already for Season 3 and the producers are about to launch the casting process for its contenders with the hope that top groups are already forming with their eye on the prize.
Sure, in some cases, the groups are longstanding ones such as last season's Yale University Whiffenpoofs. But, in other cases, the groups can be carefully constructed as with finalists Street Corner Symphony, a group of Nashville singers who joined for the sole purpose of winning "The Sing-Off.

As a craft beer enthusiast, my favorite show on the Discovery Channel this season is Brew Masters, which follows innovative and always entertaining Dogfish Head Brewery founder Sam Calagione as he travels across America and around the globe, exploring new ingredients and techniques for the next great brews often based on ancient traditions.
Calagione is no stranger to Austin -- he annually teams up with the the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to host the Off-Centered Film Fest short film competition in Austin every April. This year is no exception and promises to be bigger than ever, with submissions for the festival currently being accepted. The early bird deadline is January 29, with a final deadline of March 1 to enter.

Hello, Zoners, and welcome to the first episode guide of 2011! I love a show that starts with Stephen so bubbling with joy that he has a hard time slipping back into “Stephen” when the show starts. Oh, how I’ve missed that smile – it truly is contagious. We’ve covered Stephen’s appearances at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in the past, and have always enjoyed seeing him supporting the worthy cause. However, I share his frustration in what seems like a waste of charity money for the charity to be throwing at lawyers. I would hate to think that I donated to what I thought was a charity doing good to the world, only to find out that so much money was...

The early bird catches the worm and so here’s this weekend’s B.O. estimate totals a day earlier than usual. And as I stated in my previous post this morning (see below) Megamind was No. 1 doing $44.5 million followed by Due Date with just over $34 million and For Colored Girls coming up third with $21.5 million.
As I previously stated that is about par for the usual opening numbers for a Tp movie. However some insiders yesterday were projecting an opening weekend of $28 million for Fcb, so the $21.5 million, while still pretty good especially considering the competition, is something of a disappointment. Now it’s up to word-of-mouth to see if the film will hold in the following weeks or will drop off sharply. The rest below…
1 . Megamind (DreamWorks Animation/Paramount) ,Estimated Weekend $44.5M
2. Due Date (Warner Bros) Estimated Weekend $34.3M
3. For Colored Girls (Lionsgate) Estimated Weekend $21M
4. Saw 3D (Lionsgate) Estimated Weekend $8.7M,...

For some the name Norman Wisdom won’t mean a thing. He was an old man even when I was a kid, but many growing up in the 1980s and 1990s will remember the slapstick movies shown on television featuring Norman Wisdom with great warmth and affection. Even Charles Chaplin enjoyed his shtick – and that’s coming from cinema’s great comedic icon.
In a statement released by Wisdom’s son, he announced the passing earlier today (4th October) at his home on the Isle of Man:
“Over the past six months Sir Norman has sustained a series of strokes causing a general decline in both his mental and physical health. He had maintained a degree of independence up until a few days ago. However over the last few days his condition rapidly declined. He was in no pain or distress and peacefully passed away.”

Here’s what’s gone down today in the Beverly Hills Courthouse:
Read Lindsay Lohan’S Statement To The Judge:

- Lindsay’s father Michael Lohan showed up to the hearing at 8:14Am, but will his support hurt or help Lindsay?
- Lindsay Lohan has showed up in a black suit with what appears to be a Great hair day!

The early bird catches the worm, and the early human catches not only the Grand Slam Breakfast special at Denny's but the sunshiny good-day vibe of Live With Regis and Kelly and the Today show. And this morning that meant a sizzling, meaty side helping of your beloved Soup host Joel McHale, who stopped by both shows so early that he didn't even have time to shave. If you were too busy with your morning grooming regimen—or simply sleeping off another dull Wednesday night—and missed the action, here's Joel dealing with intense questioning from Regis and offering his frank thoughts on a brutal paintball war among the Today crew, after the jump. Watch McHale brave the...

Any film festival at its most crazy, hectic moments can feel like a real sideshow sometimes, complete with barkers — i.e. the filmmakers — enticing audiences into a dark room to witness their wondrous visions.
However, the Coney Island Film Festival, which is heading into its 10th year, is the only fest that is literally a sideshow, being held in the historic Sideshows by the Seashore at the greatest beach resort in the world, in my humble opinion anyway. The fest will run this year Sept. 24-26.
Ciff always shows a fun and terrific lineup of wild films every year. Here’s last year’s batch. They also accept films in every category: Feature, Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, Experimental, Silent Film, Horror, Animation, Music Video.
The early bird deadline is coming up in February, but here are all the deadlines (postmarked):

America's Next Top Model's casting special has always been a little ironic because all the contestants have been revealed on the official CW website. Nonetheless, the girls arrived at a hotel to be sorted. Instantly, we're given a snarky gay man who takes the girls' names. He never shows up after that scene.
Tyra wants to make sure that short models get a chance this year as she looks for the next petite model. None of the girls are taller than 5'7", but to give all of the girls a shot, none of the short girls are plus-sized.Continue reading America's Next Top Model: How Short Can You Go / The Early Bird Gets A Makeover (season premiere)
