To most, Madonna‘s Like a Virgin was a fun slice of dance music. On the other hand, her father found it mortifying. He wasn’t any happier when pictures of his daughter appeared in Playboy. The “Express Yourself” singer once released a ballad about her father, and the picture it paints is not flattering.
Madonna’s father didn’t want to talk about ‘Like a Virgin’
During a 1991 interview with Rolling Stone, Madonna was asked about how her father, Silvio Anthony “Tony” Ciccone, reacted to a risque performance from her film Madonna: Truth or Dare. She avoided the question. “I don’t know if he’s seen all the other things I’ve done,” she said. “I’m sure when the nude pictures in Playboy and the album Like a Virgin came out, he went through a period of extreme shock.” While tame today, nude pictures and Like a...

For better or worse, Neverland Ranch is one of the most famous celebrity properties ever. Michael Jackson bought the ranch because of an experience he had while filming the music video for his Paul McCartney duet “Say Say Say.” “Say Say Say” stands out from his other collaborations with Paul for another reason.
Michael Jackson’s ‘Say Say Say’ was 1 of his multiple collaborations with Paul McCartney
Jermaine Jackson is the second most famous member of The Jackson 5. In his 2014 book You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine said his brother always wanted to collaborate with Paul. Paul wrote a song called “Girlfriend” that appeared on the album Off the Wall. In the 1980s, Paul and Michael released two hit duets together: “The Girl Is Mine” from Thriller and “Say Say Say” from Paul’s album Pipes of Peace. Only the latter has a music video.

Pet Shop Boys vocalist Neil Tennant shared his thoughts on Taylor Swift‘s musical legacy, drawing comparisons to Michael Jackson’s iconic status.
While he acknowledged his admiration for much of Swift’s music, Tennant expressed his belief that she has yet to produce a standout single that can rival the star power of Jackson’s “Billie Jean.”
“Taylor Swift sort of fascinates me as a phenomenon because she’s so popular, and I sort of quite like the whole thing, but then when I listen to the records … for a phenomenon as big, where are the famous songs?” Tennant told a panel discussion organized by The Guardian in London. “What’s Taylor Swift’s ‘Billie Jean’?”
While Tennant acknowledged Swift’s exceptional vocal abilities and the exquisite production of her music, he felt that, melodically, it lacked dynamism. “She’s got a great voice, and the production is beautiful,...

On “Song for Amy,” Cave sings over a gorgeous arrangement of piano, flute, and strings while delivering somber lyrics like, “I’d give you anything for you to stay/ But if you go now, I won’t stay in your way.”

Michael Jackson‘s Off the Wall gave the world a lot of great, upbeat tunes. It also produced a pop ballad that was so sad it repeatedly made Jackson cry. Here’s a look at the tragedy that inspired this song.
Quincy Jones revealed the effect 1 ‘Off the Wall’ song had on Michael Jackson
When people think of Jackson, they think of dancing — both the King of Pop’s iconic moves and his incredible array of dance songs. “Billie Jean,” “Thriller,” “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” “Smooth Criminal,” and “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” are still some of the best dance-pop songs ever. In addition, “Black or White” and “Beat It” work on the dancefloor even though they are rock songs. However, every pop star needs to put out ballads as singles to show that they have musical range, as well as a soft side. One of...

Nick Cave and his longtime collaborator Warren Ellis have teamed up to score the forthcoming Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black.
Cave and Ellis composed “about 20-30 minutes” of music for the film’s score. Additionally, Cave has contributed a new song called “Song for Amy” that will appear on the soundtrack.
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black,” said director Sam Taylor-Johnson in a statement. “Over the years I’ve listened to everything they’ve composed and longed to realize the dream of working together. Their sensibility as well as understanding of this story has led to a profoundly deep and moving film score.”
The soundtrack also includes six songs from Winehouse, as well a five songs from artists who inspired her, including Billie Holliday and The Shangri-Las. It will be released on May 17th.

One of the many mood-setting songs on the "Barbie" soundtrack was "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish and her brother/co-writer Finneas O'Connell. Tonight at the 96th Academy Awards, the duo and their tune took home the Oscar for Best Original Song as Miss Eilish made Oscar history.
This is Eilish and O'Connell's second Oscar win; they previously won Best Original Song in 2022 for "No Time To Die," the anthem from the eponymous James Bond movie. With these two almost back-to-back wins, the 22-year-old Eilish is now the youngest two-time Oscar winner in history. I'd bet good money this year's golden statue won't be the last she'll display on her shelf.
Eilish is the latest musical goth it-girl of the moment, following in the footsteps of her cited influences like Avril Lavigne. Her whispery singing can be sad and/or creepy depending on what lyrics she's letting out.

“This isn’t a flip-flops and shorts show!” yelled Madonna on Monday night, marking her Celebration Tour’s arrival in Los Angeles.
For the first time in close to a decade, the Material Girl returned to the Inglewood Forum in a breathless two-hour, forty minute-plus mammoth, visually enthralling, techno-savvy concert covering her 40-year career. The last time she played this L.A. haunt was October 2015 with her Rebel Tour.
And by the way, for those keeping count: Madge hit the stage early at 9:40 Pm, versus her standard 10 Pm start time.
“I’m about to tell you the story of my life. It’s like reading from my personal diary through music, through dance, through art, through videos. I hope you can handle it,” she exclaimed to the 17,500-filled venue, aged teen to 70-something.

As Selena Gomez once said, everything is not what it seems. On Oct. 5, Meta unveiled Billie, an AI chatbot created using Kendall Jenner's likeness. Outwardly, the bot resembles the model to a T, down to her mannerisms, tone of voice, and blinking patterns. "Chatting with me is like having an older sister you can talk to, but who can't steal your clothes," Billie captioned its debut Instagram post. The chatbot is the first in a line of 28 new AI assistants modeled after celebrities, and as one Instagram commenter succinctly put it, "that's freaky as hell."
To be fair, artificial intelligence has proven useful in gathering information and analyzing data at a faster pace in myriad industries around the world, including healthcare, cybersecurity, financial services, insurance, the beauty industry, and business enterprises. Still, this most recent development could give "Black Mirror," "Severance," and even "The Matrix" a run for their money.

What If, the latest Filipino romance movie on Netflix, uses a very familiar narrative trope. It starts with a woman, visibly sad, walking alone on a deserted beach while contemplating a life-altering decision that she has made. She has left the man, she loves, because she feels, she is not good enough for him. That’s what we get from her inner monologue. The story then goes back to a time when things were much happier; everything was bright and sunny. Even the Color Grade changes from vibrant to morbid. There are both Advantages and Disadvantages to using this narrative style. The audience keeps wondering, how the situation changed so drastically for the character, which effectively keeps them glued to the movie till the end. The downside of this is the burden of delivering something substantial and making sense of the opening scene simultaneously. What If does try to pull it off,...

Michael Jackson’s Wikipedia page was updated within moments of the announcement of the singer’s passing in 2009. Two of the major broadcast television networks suspended their primetime schedule to air specials about Jackson, while radio stations across the country cued up songs from his extensive catalog of hits. One woman called in to New York’s Power 105 in tears, repeating, “I loved Michael Jackson! I loved that man!” over and over, before threatening to throw herself in front of a car.
Jackson’s songs still serve as a crucible for our various compromises and self-imposed psychological barriers. It sounds carefree, but it’s impossible to listen to the music without assessing its creator’s hidden torment. Even the smoothest, catchiest, most disco-tastic singles in Mj’s back catalog are a little obsessed. (Don’t stop ‘til you get enough? Got me working day and night?)

Former Days of Our Lives actress Lisa Rinna took to social media to expose the show for its “disgusting” and “hostile” set environment on the soap.
Rinna was cast on the iconic show as Billie Reed in the 1990s, and later reprised the role for a week in 2018 and in the 2021 spinoff series, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem.
This week, Rinna shared a photo of director and co-executive producer Albert Alarr, who has been the subject of a nine-week investigation into accusations of workplace misconduct.
“Karma is a b—,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
She then followed up with another post, in which she exposed Alarr and other people on set for ignoring complaints.
“Well, this took a long time… the last time I went over there and did that week on Peacock I couldn’t believe the work environment,” she said. “It was disgusting, I was shocked.

Netflix has revealed it has cast Gillian Anderson to play former BBC news anchor Emily Maitlis in “Scoop,” a film about Prince Andrew’s disastrous “Newsnight” interview in 2019.
The disgraced royal will be played by Rufus Sewell (“Old”) while Billie Piper (“I Hate Suzie”) and Keeley Hawes (“Stonehouse) join as TV producer Sam McAlister, who negotiated and secured the interview, and Andrew’s former private secretary Amanda Thirsk, respectively.
“Scoop” is adapted from McAlister’s book “Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews,” in which she details what happened behind the scenes of the interview, which is widely credited as being the final nail in the coffin of Andrew’s public role. Following its broadcast, in Nov. 2019, he was effectively banned from appearing at public events with the royals, stripped of many of his patronages and roles and forbidden from using the honorific “His Royal Highness.

While only a handful of documentary features have been selected for Cannes’ Official Selection, plenty of non-fiction action can be found in Cannes Market’s Doc Corner and environs, where doc professionals converge to get first looks at — or the first word on — titles with potential to connect with audiences on screens, large and small, in the near future.
The Docs-in-Progress series, running May 18-20, a main attraction of Doc Corner, presents four works-in-progress apiece from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Norway, Palestine and South Africa. These sessions are programmed with documentary or film partner organizations from the respective countries. This year the Monaco-based International Emerging Film Talent Assn. is sponsoring a €10,000, jury-selected prize that will be given to one of the projects to support completion.

If the Cannes Market’s Doc Corner, a hub for feature documentary filmmakers and executives, feels more crowded this year, it may have to do with the strong theatrical performance of features docs such as “Free Solo” and “Amazing Grace,” and the slew of U.S. and international titles acquired or admired at Sundance, SXSW (“For Sama”) and Tribeca (“The Apollo”). The combination of the box office and quality product is stoking a competitive marketplace not just in acquisitions but, increasingly, in pre-production involvement.
“With a clear acceleration this decade, feature docs have imposed themselves as a major, indispensable part of the film industry, generating business and revenues, and enabling a strong ecosystem to structure itself, with specialized festivals playing a major role,” says Pierre-Alexis Chevit, project manager of Doc Corner and its conference-style Doc Day on May 21.
