- Tom Rath: I don't know anything about public relations.
- Bill Hawthorne: Who does? You've got a clean shirt and you bathe every day. That's all there is to it.
- Judge Bernstein: [referring to a man who is trying to cheat Tom Rath out of his home] If you're going to be slick, be slick in the city. They're not as smart there.
- Tom Rath: The most significant thing about me so far as the United Broadcasting Corporation is concerned is that I am applying for a position in its Public Relations Department and after a reasonable period of learning I believe I could do a good job. I will be glad to answer any other questions relevant to this application for employment but after giving it serious thought I am unable to convince myself that any further speculation on my importance could be of any legitimate interest or value to the United Broadcasting Corporation.
- Ralph Hopkins: Somebody's got to do it. Big successful businesses are not built by men like you. 9 to 5 and home and family. You live on them but you never built one. Without men like me there wouldn't be big and successful businesses. My mistake was in being one of those men.
- Betsy Rath: Then if it wasn't the war what has happened to you?
- Tom Rath: What do you mean what's happened to me?
- Betsy Rath: I don't know, except that you've lost your guts and all of a sudden I'm ashamed of you.
