  • A brief reference approving of domestic violence. Jim says of his father, "If he had guts to knock Mom cold once, then maybe she'd be happy and then she'd stop picking on him."
  • This film is pretty violent for the time and violence is presented realistically albeit being not too graphic.

  • Two young men fight with switchblades and stab each other with them. In a later scene, the resulting wounds can be seen through a character's shirt.

  • A daughter's affections towards her father are regularly rejected. She cries upon revealing that he referred to her as a "tramp".
  • The film deals with themes of adolescence, disillusionment with the human condition and imitable behaviour that may require adult guidance.
