- Narrator: We all talked about leaving, but only one of us, one morning, without a word to a soul, actually left.
- Fausto Moretti: [reunited with Sandra, after his father has whipped him for his infidelities] You scared me so, Sandra. Never do that again, you hear?
- Sandra Rubini: And if you make me mad again, I'll beat you like your father. But even harder. I'll beat you senseless.
- Fausto Moretti: [starts to laugh] That's how I like you. Here, let me hold the baby
- Francesco Moretti: You little weasel! I swear by your poor mother that your foul escapades are over! That girl's father is a decent guy. Worked all his life, like me, idiot that I am, to support his family honestly. You'll marry her, if I have to kick your ass all the way to the church.
- Leopoldo Vannucci: This town is blind to art. It's so hard, being perpetually misunderstood. My friends don't even understand me. They only care about material things. They live their sordid lives, thinking of women and money. I feel so alone. And the winter is awful. It's endless in this town. I'm so full of sadness and anguish. At midnight the town goes dark. How can an artist feed his demons? How can he live in this silence?
- Guido: Why are you leaving then?
- Moraldo Rubini: I don't know. I have to go away. I'm leaving.
- Guido: Didn't you like it here?
- Sergio Natali: [to Leopoldo and his mates, who have gathered at Natali's dressing room to visit him] Forgive the candle. In these second-rate theaters, they always steal the light bulbs. May I offer you a cigarette? They're domestic, you know. American cigarettes are very bad for you.
- Leopoldo Vannucci: The years go by, then one morning you wake up. Just yesterday you were a boy and now you're no longer young.
- Leopoldo Vannucci: If I went on a honeymoon, I'd go to Africa, like Hemingway. Free, in the wild, in a Jeep.
- Moraldo Rubini: Sounds fabulous.
- Riccardo: Africa would be a real escape. I'd go there with Esther Williams.
- Alberto: What about Franca Marzi?
- Riccardo: Franca Marzi. Ginger Rogers.
- Fausto Moretti: We saw Wanda Osiris
- Sandra Rubini: She was wonderful.
- Fausto Moretti: Sure, it was a nice show, but let's not go overboard.
- Alberto: [complaining about his Carnival costume] I need bigger breasts!
- Elvira: I padded it in front.
- Alberto: [drunkenly] Who the hell are you? Who?
- Moraldo Rubini: It's me, Moraldo.
- Alberto: Who?
- Moraldo Rubini: Moraldo.
- Alberto: No, you're nobody. You're all nobodies. All of you.
- Alberto: [drunkenly] Moraldo, know what? We gotta get married.
- Moraldo Rubini: Yes.
- Alberto: We gotta get married. You see Fausto? He settled down. He's happy. He has a house. We just gotta get ourselves wives.
