The first solo album from former Slayer guitarist Kerry King is basically the “Still D.R.E.” of thrash metal.
But where Dr. Dre wanted to remind his fans that he was still puffin’ his leafs, still fucking with beats, and still not lovin’ police after close to a decade’s absence, King wants his fans to understand that even though Slayer are essentially hellbound, he’s still Satan’s preeminent ambassador with furious, jagged riffs and sweet nothings like “Crucifixation” and “Everything I Hate About You.” On From Hell I Rise,...

Last year the Grammys introduced a new category: Best Pop Dance Recording. The purpose of the category was to cleave the dance-oriented pop musicians out of the electronic categories and thus make it fairer for electronic DJs and producers who usually can’t compete against huge names like Lady Gaga or Beyoncé. The category seems to have been a success, giving space to acclaimed artists like Troye Sivan and Kylie Minogue to get on the Grammy stage; Minogue ultimately won for “Padam Padam.” While last year’s set of nominees was quite well-known, this year could produce an even more star-studded pack.
I think it’s safe to say that there are two frontrunners so far, from two mega pop divas. First is Ariana Grande, whose “Yes, And?” is one of the year’s biggest hits. While the song is not as commercially dominant as some of Grande’s other...

Despite appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show several times, there seemed to always be unspoken tension between Wendy Williams and the famed dancing talk show host. Fans pulled footage from 20 years ago that may explain why there was bad blood. Keep reading to see what they uncovered and how it could have impacted Ellen and Wendy’s relationship.
Tensions Between Wendy Williams & Ellen DeGeneres
A few years ago, Wendy Williams threw shade at Ellen DeGeneres when she came out and denied knowing about a toxic work environment at her studio. There were a number of accusations made that labeled The Ellen Show as toxic.
As a result, Ellen DeGeneres retired from daytime television, even though she denied that the allegations were true. At the time, she said that the rumors were “orchestrated.” Nonetheless, she felt it was time to hang it up and leave the show.

Fresh off of winning her second career Grammy, Kylie Minogue has signed with UTA for live representation in the United States and Canada and acting worldwide.
The Australian singer won the best pop dance recording Grammy — a new award — earlier this month for her viral hit “Padam Padam.” The song is from her 16th studio album, Tension, which was released last year and reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart.
Minogue, 55, won her first Grammy — best dance recording — in 2004 for her groovy hit “Come Into My World.” Her hits also include “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” “The Loco-motion” and “Love at First Sight,” among others.
She has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, earned five billion streams and launched nine U.K. No. 1 albums. She’s won three Brit Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards, and is the only female artist to score a No.

Sia enlisted the help of recent Grammy winner Kylie Minogue for her latest single, “Dance Alone.”
The duo reunited 10 years after previously working together on Minogue’s Kiss Me Once. The blissful pop track will appear on Sia’s Reasonable Woman, out May 3 via Atlantic Records. “I am not afraid/I know I’ll be ok/There’s nothing you can say,” the song declares before diving into the chorus: “I just want to dance alone/I ain’t never going home… I just want to dance alone/I just want to lose my phone.

Kerry King moved on from Slayer, whose breakneck-paced declarations of destruction redefined metal for a generation, a long time ago. In 2018, as soon as frontman Tom Araya told him he was done with the band, King says he “shifted gears.”

Numero Group is finally giving Majesty Crush their flowers with Butterflies Don’t Go Away, an upcoming double-lp collection commemorating the oft-overlooked shoegazers’ beloved discography.
Majesty Crush formed in Detroit in 1990 and were opening for bands like Mazzy Star and Royal Trux shortly thereafter. After a few smaller releases, including 1992’s Fan EP, the quartet signed with Elektra subsidiary Dali Records. But when Dali folded less than a month after putting out Majesty Crush’s sole LP Love 15, their bright future burned out fast.
Out March 29th, Butterflies Don’t Go Away compiles all of Majesty Crush’s material, from Love 15 to various singles to the Fan EP (the latter of which will be available digitally for the very first time on February 20th). Kylie Minogue is currently on her More Than Just a Residency residency in Las Vegas.
It began in November last year and is scheduled to run until early May.
This isn’t the first time Minogue has performed in Las Vegas, as she recalled during a Los Angeles press conference that she had “performed a couple of times but as part of a tour.”
Speaking on what she planned her residency to be, Minogue said, “I want it to be the kind of essence of what a Kylie show has become, enough glamour and abandon. I’ve got some versions of songs that have not been heard, like reinterpretations of songs, which is exciting.”
“Live bed dances, amazing costumes. That’s the base and then we’ll see what surprises we can come up with,” she added.

The Hoth scenes in "Star Wars: Episode V -- The Empire Strikes Back" weren't easy to film. It was largely shot in Finse, Norway, as well as a nearby glacier. They dealt with avalanches and trains that stopped running because of the weather. They even had to shoot the tauntaun scene right outside their hotel (with people watching from the balconies), because they couldn't get to the original shooting location. However, it was human error involving some dynamite that caused one of the issues while filming on what is supposed to be depicted as a bitterly cold ice planet.
If you recall, at the beginning of the film, Imperial forces send down a probe to see if the Rebels are on the planet. (You may remember the probe because it's actually a surprisingly cute droid for something with evil intent ... or I'm just a sucker for anything that looks like it has a face.

In the three decades since Kylie Minogue’s debut, the Australian soap actress turned international pop star has released 16 studio albums and, thanks to the recent success of “Padam Padam,” racked up an impressive 35 Top 10 hits in the U.K. Her career trajectory, however, wasn’t always assured.
After her initial breakout success on both sides of the Atlantic, with a cover of Little Eva’s “The Loco-Motion,” Minogue struggled to maintain interest among U.S. audiences. By the mid-1990s, she was eager to shake off her bubblegum-pop image, collaborating with the likes of Nick Cave and Towa Tei, and taking more creative control with the experimental Impossible Princess. The album flopped, but a turn-of-the-century renaissance found the singer embracing her dance-pop roots and cementing her status as a gay icon.

As New York Fashion Week came to an end last week, London Fashion Week was just beginning.
Kylie Minogue made an appearance on the third day of London’s Fashion Week and found herself sitting in between Nigerian singer-songwriter Burna Boy and The Banshees of Inisherin actor Barry Keoghan.

Fashion wasn’t the only reason for her London visit. On September 22, the “Padam Padam” singer will be hosting a pop-up shop until Sunday to promote her 16th studio album, Tension, which is set to be released on the same day the shop opens.

The National’s Bryce Dessner has detailed his new soundtrack for the upcoming absurdist comedy She Came to Me starring Peter Dinklage. Out September 29th via Warner Classics and Unigram, the album features an original song from Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa called “Addicted to Romance.”
According to a press release, She Came to Me director Rebecca Miller said the soundtrack came from an “intimate process” of collaboration with Dessner, who boarded the film during its earliest stages. This was especially important since the album had to incorporate two on-screen operas from the movie. Conducted by André de Ridder, the score features contributions from French pianist Katia Labèque and vocals from Greer Grimsley, Alicia Hall Moran, Isabel Leonard, and Emmett O’Hanlon.
In a statement, Dessner described the film as “one of the most rewarding and creative experiences I have had” and said it allowed him to “make the music that I wanted to make,...

Fresh off her hit “Padam Padam,” Kylie Minogue has dropped her new single and title track from her upcoming 16th studio album Tension.
Like its predecessor, “Tension” features the electro-pop, ready-to-remix, featuring sexy lyrics from the Australian singer ready for a DJ set at queer bars. “Don’t be shy, boy, I don’t bite/You know where, touch me right, ta-ta/Oh my god, touch me right there.”

Following the success of her viral hit “Padam Padam,” Aussie pop icon Kylie Minogue has dropped the title track from her forthcoming album, Tension. It’s the third track to be released from the album.
“Tension,” which sound like it could have been lifted from Minogue’s eclectic 2008 effort X, is the most forward-minded track on the new album. The electro-pop song begins with ’90s house-style keyboards and a propulsive dance beat before pivoting toward something more leftfield, though no less infectious.
The singer’s stuttering, processed vocal hook is what an AI might sound like being brought to a heady, simulated climax: “Oh, my god/Touch me right there/Almost there, touch me right there.” While the track is unlikely to match the proverbial peak of “Padam Padam,” it should keep fans’ BPMs elevated until Tension drops on September 22nd.
Listen to “Tension” below:
The music video for the song premieres tomorrow.

In late June, Madonna was admitted to the ICU to be treated for a serious bacterial infection that put the North American leg of her Celebration tour on pause while she recovered. “Yeah, it doesn’t really bear thinking about. But we still do it.

After twenty-plus years since the initial Israel-Palestine peace talks, Rashid Masharawi’s 1998 film “Tension” is an apt reminder that war is not all blood and gore. The short film peels back the thin veil of Israeli occupation to expose repressed agitation, sewing together a seamless montage of the Palestinian subconscious. In a tour of Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, Masharawi tightly weaves together a patchwork spread of poverty and violence against the disillusioned backdrop of “peace.”
“Tension” collapses twenty-four hours into twenty-four minutes. It records the everyday lives of civilians within the region amidst the 1996-1999 tit-for-tat between the Palestine Liberation Organization and the State of Israel. The film opens with a long shot of Palestinian workers marching towards the border gates at dawn. Traditional folk music tempts the viewer into the lull of the everyday: hopeful workers clamber into buses; marketmen peddle their goods; old men watch passerby from their stools.

Stylish film noir star known for her role in Lady in the Lake
I was kissed by Audrey Totter. At least, I share that experience with anybody who has seen Lady in the Lake (1947), when Totter plants her lips on the subjective camera, the surrogate for Robert Montgomery as Philip Marlowe. The film, directed by Montgomery, and based on the Raymond Chandler novel, was shot so that the whole story is seen literally through Marlowe's eyes.
The role of the gold-digging tigress magazine editor Adrienne Fromsett, who hires the private eye to find the missing wife of her publisher, was a breakthrough for Totter, who has died aged 95. Previously, she had been in a dozen movies, her hair colour and accent varying so much from film to film that she dubbed herself "the feminine Lon Chaney of the MGM lot".
Montgomery chose Totter for the part because of her versatility as a radio actor.

Femme fatale Audrey Totter: Film noir actress and MGM leading lady dead at 95 (photo: Audrey Totter ca. 1947) Audrey Totter, film noir femme fatale and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer contract player best remembered for the mystery crime drama Lady in the Lake and, at Rko, the hard-hitting boxing drama The Set-Up, died after suffering a stroke and congestive heart failure on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles County. Reportedly a resident at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills, Audrey Totter would have turned 96 on Dec. 20. Born in Joliet, Illinois, Audrey Totter began her show business career on radio. She landed an MGM contract in the mid-’40s, playing bit roles in several of the studio’s productions, e.g., the Clark Gable-Greer Garson pairing Adventure (1945), the Hedy Lamarr-Robert Walker-June Allyson threesome Her Highness and the Bellboy (1945), and, as an adventurous hitchhiker riding with John Garfield,...

Decoy
Directed by Jack Bernhard
Written by Nedrick Young (screenplay) and Stanley Rubin (story)
U.S.A., 1946
Film noir is film noir because of a variety of recognized qualities which concern both visuals cues as well as some specific narrative aspects, including stereotypical character traits. It stands to reason that that is how the genre, or any other genre for that matter, is recognized. However, there are some examples of films that, by the very fact that they follow the standards of the genre, somehow manage to create their own special uniqueness. It might be because said movie exemplifies those characteristics particularly well. Other examples prove to be more challenging to evaluate as to what makes them special. The reasons may be more difficult to flesh out simply because one is uncertain as to whether or not the picture is actually good. Watching Jack Berhard’s Decoy in preparation for...

Tension
Directed by John Berry
Screenplay by Allen Rivkin
U.S.A., 1949
Who is the infamous femme fatale? From what dark depths of humanity was she born and will men ever be able to truly resist her seductive moves? Such queries can spark endless discussions, among them the quality of the actresses who have portrayed them throughout the decades, especially in the early days of the noir genre. What appears to be all showmanship and flash hides the real talents of the actresses interpreting the roles. Not everyone can pull off the task with flying colours. Some actresses simply have the ‘fatale bug.’ Jane Greer was one of the most popular of her contemporaries, her role in Out of the Past being the most celebrated. Another talented, seductive thespian of the time that should not be overlooked is Audrey Totter, who made quite a career for herself with a great many roles in noir films.

Well we all knew this would happen. Back in February, when Criterion announced their epic digital streaming partnership with Hulu, they also quietly revealed that their streaming options on Netflix would be coming to an end over the course of the next year. While I haven’t been paying close attention to the Criterion Collection films that have been expiring since that announcement was made, I thought it would be helpful to all of you loyal Netflix subscribers to know that in about twelve days, 26 titles will be expiring on the 26th of May, 2011.
I’ve gone and linked to all of the titles below, so you can click on the cover art or the text, and be taken to their corresponding Netflix pages. While this isn’t everything that Criterion has to offer on Netflix, it is a nice chunk of really important films. If you don’t currently have a Netflix subscription,...

Previously, Ivy pretended that Michael C had spread rumors about her, because actually accepting that she had done a crap job was out of the question. Just hearing her say the words "Michael C is trying to sabotage me!" makes me grind my teeth and wonder what show she thinks she's on. Peach was eliminated, and I miss her already.
We start with a bit of useless filler (gotta make up the 90 minutes with something) as we see April move in to the apartment that holds the other three remaining women. It's not terribly exciting, until she claims that she doesn't deal in bullshit, and that if she has a problem with someone she'll voice it. Hmm. I wonder, did you go up to Michael Costello and tell him you think he has poor sewing skills and he's a horrible person, or by 'voice it' did you mean telling it...
