Jane Greer got the role after Marlene Dietrich turned it down.
Exteriors were filmed in Sedona, Arizona.
Contrary to remarks here and Warner Bros. itself, at the time they released the cut version on DVD, the original version DOES still exist.
The BBC owns UK broadcast rights, in perpetuity, to many RKO films and regularly shows "Station West", running 88m 14s @ 25fps. Equivalent r/t at film speed is 92m 4s, corresponding exactly to Warners stated length of 8286ft.
At one time, at least until the 80s, the BBC held 35mm prints and would telecine direct to air. Their present version of "Station West" is clearly on analogue tape @ 720x576i.
The TCM print is the 1957 re-release, with re-framed title credits to accommodate wide-screen projection and shortened to 80 minutes. This is also the cut available on DVD, so presumably the full-length version is lost.
