The film is set at some point in the mid 19th century according to the costumes and the original novel. Stewart Granger's costume seems to have been fitted as tight as possible to show off his physique! Jean Kent's costumes are occasionally a bit risqué, a tad see-through on occasion.
Robert Helpmann was a highly respected and influential Australian-born ballet dancer who helped influence modern British ballet. He was an early, regular partner of Margot Fonteyn. He choreographed ballets and continued to dance in a variety of roles for the rest of his life. He had a varied career stretching over six decades. He was knighted in 1968 for services to ballet, becoming Sir Robert Helpmann.
Jean Kent married actor Joseph Ramart in 1946, the year the film was released. He had a small part in the film and they were married until his death 43 years later.
Final film of Enid Stamp-Taylor.
