One of the three American films by Franciska Gaal and the only one she made at MGM. Here she reprises her role from the original Catherine the Last (1936) made by Universal in Austria.
The text of the letter Katerina cannot read says: "My dear Katerina: I feel that I must tell you the truth. I am not a chauffeur as you think. I am what you would call a gentleman. I know that what I have done is unforgivable, but I want you to believe me when I say that I never meant to hurt you. Sincerely yours, Paul Wagner. P.S. Please do not expect me on Sunday at four."
