By destroying her he hopes to obtain control of the millions and the immense munitions plant she has inherited. He learns that Elaine, a popular dancer appearing in the "Midnight Frolic," is the exact double of Patria, and he conceived the idea of doing away with the latter and substituting Elaine in her place. Through Fanny Adair, a widow, intimate with Patria and who has lost all her money but still hangs on to the fringe of the society in which she once shone, Elaine is coached for her part. So complete is their likeness that when Elaine's manager sees Patria with Capt. Parr he attacks him in a jealous rage and tries to carry her off thinking it is Elaine. Parr follows him down the back stairs and after a fight overcomes him with Patria's help. Patria has planned to return to Newport with Fanny Adair and Capt. Parr on the Fall River Line boat. Huroki sends Elaine aboard disguised as an invalid in charge of a nurse. She has a stateroom next to Patria's and Fanny Adair. In the meanwhile Capt. Parr has been arrested on a charge of assault on the evening before, inspired by Huroki, and misses the boat. That night when Patria is on deck she is thrown overboard by Huroki's hirelings. Receiving a suspicious communication, he follows the messenger and learns he is one of a colony of spies inhabiting an island twenty miles from shore, on which are stored munitions. In the meanwhile Patria has floated to this island, where a man named Juarez finds her unconscious on the beach and revives her. Haku, the commander, announces his determination to kill Patria in accordance with rules regarding all invaders. Juarez defends her by keeping Haku at bay with a can of nitroglycerin. In attempting to aid Patria's escape in an aeroplane Juarez is shot. With no other choice, Patria plunges again into the sea. - Episode 3: "Winged Millions" Patria and Donald return and find the secret service on guard at the underground entrance to the vault. They are joined by Ryley, Donald's assistant, and a mechanic. Neither Patria nor Donald suspect that Huroki has stolen the treasure but when they are fired upon by the house next door, Donald starts to investigate. He goes through the half-burned Channing mansion, and crossing to the next roof finds that the scuttle has been forced. On locating the room from which the shots were fired he jerks open the door, kills the gunman and rushes out to find the vans gone. He makes inquiries and goes in pursuit of the treasure. Patria has followed Donald into the next house. Her search leads to the cellar, where she discovers the breach in the wall and learns of the loss of the treasure. Huroki's henchman captures and ties her to a chair. He places dynamite and after lighting a time fuse departs. Patria screams and realizing that help cannot reach her from the outside gets her right hand free and severs the fuse with a shot from her revolver. Ryley and his mechanics cut through the steel door with an acetylene outfit and Patria is rescued. She tells Ryley not to bother about the money but to find Donald. Donald has followed the vans to a pier alongside which is moored the Japanese freighter Sandai aboard which the treasure has been placed. He slips aboard and conceals himself in the hold. The ship sails but a fog retards her progress. Donald gains the upper deck unobserved, and at the point of his big revolver compels the operator to send the following wireless to Patria: "S.S. Sandai. Fog bound in lower bay. Advise Ryley." Before Donald can retreat to his hiding place his presence is discovered by Huroki and he is overpowered, beaten, and placed in the hold. Patria receives the message, and leaving directions that Ryley be notified, starts in a motorboat to overtake the Sandai. She succeeds and steers alongside without being seen, because of the fog. The exhaust of her motor has been heard, however, and when she climbs aboard is caught by the sailors and locked up in a stateroom. She manages to get out, dives into the sea, and swimming to her motorboat starts off. The fog has lifted, and those on the Sandai are alarmed to observe a U.S. torpedo boat. They try to put on speed but when a shot is sent across her bows conclude to sink the ship and take to the boats. The water pouring into the hold has reached Donald's neck when he is saved by American jackies, for the torpedo boat has picked up Patria, and she leads the search until Donald is rescued.
