- It is a photo documentary film about musicians of the untouchable Gandharva ethnic group. We wanted to document how the political, economic, cultural and value system changes have affected that unique society of these professional musicians. The confrontation with Western lifestyle and mass media as well as the Wests' more liberal attitude toward family ties and human relations raises many important questions about the Nepali identity and cultural heritage. The project will reflect on the state of Nepali tradition as well as the shifting attitudes of the "infected" younger generations. This current preoccupation with changing values is evident in the condition of the sarangi players themselves. They have been the sole carriers and broadcasters of oral traditions and news. The Gandharvas were also minstrels and as such an entertainment source before the times of the radio, however these traditions are now close to extinction, due to influences from the West.
