- Processed film from a home movie camera provides the only clue when a young girl is murdered after touring Victoria.
- When William Morgan escapes from prison a farm he heads for Matlock seeking the aid of a friend, but his friend's wife informs him that her husband has been jailed, and it is the fault of Det Sgt. Maddern. She supplies him with a rifle and he flees to the rangers.
- An aboriginal knacker's worker, Humphrey, who is always seen with a bag in his hand is branded as a 'bogey-man' by local kids, and parents are alarmed by rumor's that he makes children 'disappear'. When a child does go missing, he stands accused of throwing him in the 'çrunch-munch' machine at work, and some townspeople reach hysteria. The Matlock police embark on a search for the missing child in the storm-water drains beneath the local abattoirs.
- Shy teenager Elly Goss disappears while on her way to her first party. Detectives fear foul play and question two layabout brothers, Arnie and Joe Watson, who were seen with the girl that evening. Involved in the investigation is Gordon Allen, whose marriage is on the rocks because he treats his wife Nola more like his mother, and Nola is embittered because of it.
- Matlock police become involved with a domestic problem, racial trouble and personal tragedy when an itinerant Aboriginal worker returns to his wife Betty and son Marty after several years of chasing work, and a half-cast woman who, through ignorance, had mistreated her child and thereby provoked the bigots in the community to burn her house down.

- The young leader of a street gang pretends to buy a gun from a sports store proprietor, then uses it to shoot him in cold-blood. After a series of armed robberies occur, police suspect the same youth is responsible.

- A confession from a dying woman, a pearl brooch and a bitter young criminal lead the Homicide Squad to a grisly discovery within the walls of Pentridge.
- When top safe-cracker Barney 'Houdini' Ward gets out of Pentridge, his brother Clyde enlists his help to rob $100,000 in diamonds. Barney soon finds there is more to this 'nice safe job' than he was led to believe, and he implements a clever scheme to thwart a criminal organization led by a vicious Goldfinger-type woman.
- An art collector is stabbed to death and investigations have just begun when Det. Hudson's girlfriend 'Tinker' Bell is reported missing. Tensions mount as her disappearance is linked with the main murder suspect.
- A rich stranger, Ben Peterson, arouses the curiosity of the Matlock police, which turns to hatred when he is suspected of a violent sex crime. The battered, molested body of teenager Doreen Henderson is found in the bush and police discover that Peterson was the last person to see her alive.
- Ron Grey, an ex-Spitfire pilot embarks on a dubious mission as a courier to gain some quick money, because he only has a few years of active life lift - he is a chronic diabetic who keeps coma and semi-blindness at bay with insulin shots. While flying a light aircraft with his girlfriend Betty Holmes, the plane strikes trouble and they have to crash land in the Candowie Rangers. When the plane is found by a police search party, they discover that Gray and Holmes both fled into the bush.
- William 'Bull' Madigan, the hated boss of a sawmill in a small company town, is shot dead and the local people are reluctant to give any information. The case ends tragically when Det. Costello is killed in a mine cave-in while trying to rescue a suspect.
- Investigations of a large scale hijacking operation from transport trucks leads to a small time criminal 'Buttercup' Sands. At his home, shared with his de facto wife Edie, the police discover an autistic child, Monty who is confined to his room by a leg rope. His mother tells police it is the only way she can control him. The child also has a crippled leg which the mother believes is due to the child's autism, but a chiropractor, Tony Carboni, is convinced there is a spinal complaint later, the boy runs away and inadvertently helps police stumble on a vital clue when they have to rescue him from an abandoned mine shaft.
- A suburban policeman comes into conflict with the Homicide squad when he conducts his own investigation of a murder.
- 15-year-old Jill Evans has fallen in love with Det. Snr. Sgt. Vick Madden because she sees him as a direct contrast to her father. she corners Madden in the Matlock police station, rips open her blouse and throws her arms around his neck, and at that moment they are discovered. Jill accuses Madden of seducing her and claims he is the father of her unborn child, but Madden later manages to clear his name.
- A typewritten note sent to publisher Harry Thompson lures him to a vacant lot where he is shot dead. Investigations lead detectives to a man with a strong dislike of the police, and who remains uncooperative - until his daughter is threatened.
- Agnes, a pathetic but happy alcoholic, meets another alcoholic, Fred, who asks her to marry him. Fred has a long history of violent crime, and Agnes learns that the only reason he wants to marry her is because her sister Beryl owns a wine bar, and he thinks it is a good way to ensure a lifetime supply of free grog.
- Const. Milligan's fiancee arranges to meet him, but misses him on his beat. Sen. Det. Patterson and Det. Barnes are on hand and offer to look for him. They find him lying dead in a lane, having been killed while on duty at the scene of a burglary.
- Yarra Central police are faced with a series of crimes committed against women. Their investigations lead to a man who had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and whose wife divorced him, and who is seeking retribution against other women who have divorced their husbands.
- An unmotivated bashing looks like it could be the beginning of a series of similar loutish crimes. Suspicion falls on the son of a wealthy self-made man, who uses money to buy affection and obedience from his children, and is forced to face the fact that the making of money is not the answer to all human problems. Const. Kevin Dwyer has applied for CIB work and has been accepted for detective training, which will require his transferring away from Yarra Central.
- Sen. Det. Patterson takes his family to the zoo on his day off, and is horrified when someone goes berserk with a rifle, shooting dead a number of people. Another random shooting in the city leads detectives on the trail of a man with an unusual phobia.
- A relationship develops between two migrants who have a love of music. She has an incurable illness and is going to die. Both decide to commit suicide. He kills her but he doesn't have the courage to kill himself.
- While investigating the murder of a petty criminal, the Homicide Squad faces opposition from his young son, who blatantly accuses his mother of the crime.
- A woman's skeleton is found buried at the bottom of the garden of Dr. Bedi's new house, and a post-mortem examination reveals the woman had been killed over 30 years ago. Sgt. Vic Madden finds his loyalties tested by an old friend, John Wilson, whom he suspects could be linked with the murder.
- The routine investigations into a minor car accident develop into the search for the murderer of a married woman. Police suspect the woman's husband could have been involved. Sgt. Mackay's girlfriend Joy Bower takes a job in Brisbane after refusing his marriage proposal.
- An antique dealer is found murdered and the Homicide squad believe robbery was the motive until they discover threatening letters.
- A strip club murder involving several eminent businessmen spells trouble for private investigator Michael Ryan.
- When gambler Mike Harris is told by police that an ex-prisoner has threatened to kill him, he refuses protection. He later has a greater problem involving him with the police, an attractive young girl, and a doctor who has been struck off the register.
- A clerk is shot when two masked men hold up a factory and steal a £10,000 payroll. Homicide detectives have no leads, and must rely on information from an informer, Sgt. Bronson's 'Aunt Sally'.
- When ex-convict Alec McKenzie returns home, the Matlock police look upon him as a possible suspect for a robbery. this is the least of Alec's worries. In the next 36 hours he uncovers jealousy and hate which puts pressure on him until he can't contain it no longer, resulting in violence.
- Art student Martin Cooke becomes involved in murder when prison warden Tom Richards is shot and wounded, and his wife and small son are shot dead as they relax in the Botanic Gardens. An artist's sketch book found near the bodies is the only clue and leads Homicide detectives on a search through art schools.
- A young university student reports to police that she has been raped. A young man is charged, then additional information and the probing by the man's defense counsel creates doubts as to the truth of her story. Policewoman Margaret Stewart finds a romantic interest in the police doctor, Robert Whitfield.
- Deacon Gallegar thinks a wild orgy is taking place by the river. Wally Struthers meets Gallegar's daughter Kathy who collapses after having to much to home brew - Wally thinks she is dead and puts her in the boot of his car, causing police to suspect a murder. A bandit planning a robbery unknowingly meets up with Sen. Det. York while they are both traveling to Matlock. All this plus a runaway tractor causes bedlam at the Matlock police station.
- Some nasty remarks about Australian Rules football lead to what police believe is a nasty but simple bashing.
- Upcoming young pop star Annette Bishop is abducted and her chauffeur, Bob Wilson, is shot. The abductors, Danny Clark and Ted Randle, are demanding a ransom, and it transpires that the girl's mother, Sandra Bishop, is in league with them. Later the girl's father, ex-prisoner Des Bishop, muscles in on the act, but at this stage it looks as if Annette has died from an overdose of sedatives.
- Yarra Central police investigate the actions of a visiting yachtsman, Tom Anderson, who is involved in bird smuggling. Anderson has conned a young girl, Karen, into the smuggling racket, and events culminate with Anderson seeking revenge against Banner.
- Ex-speedway driver Bernie Smith becomes involved with local hot-rodders doing up their cars, and the Matlock Police take an interest when they investigate stolen car parts. Bernie's love of his car is straining his marriage, and their neighbour Georgina Cooper is becoming increasingly paranoid about the Smiths. Events reach crisis point when local youths steal Bernie's car, Georgina Cooper tries to electrocute Judy Smith, and Bernie is caught breaking into a garage that he had been sacked from earlier.
- Young Greek fisherman Nick Evangelides unwisely agrees to sponsor 'Doc' Roberts and 'Girlie' Piper's scheme to bring Greek girl Lina Zangalis to Australia for prostitution purposes. Lina is under the impression that she was brought to Australia to marry Nick, and when 'Doc' Roberts is later murdered, Nick becomes the prime suspect.
- An ex-prostitute whose husband is involved in counterfeiting finds herself caught in the middle when her friend is murdered by her husband, and she turns to Detective Redford for help.
- Nature had not dealt kindly with little Willie. In his stunted body, half the size of normal men, is packed all the emotions of others about him. The strange affection that grows between Willie and a woman criminal leads him to the half-world of robbery, violence and eventually his own death
- Patti Anderson and Ian Forbes are in love, but the boy is dominated by his wealthy father, a stud farmer who owns the property which Patti cannot understand Ian's attitude to marriage.
- After locking his warehouse late at night, elderly Ralph Keenan is shot dead in one of the rooms. Detectives are puzzled because the killer shot Keenan in almost total darkness. The victim's attractive wife and his business partner later become the prime suspects.
