After the Patriarch dies, Tom and Rose marry.
- Dick Turpin, an English highwayman who robs from the rich and gives to the poor, holds up the coach of Lord Churlton. Sometime later, in aiding a coach attacked by ruffians, Dick meets aristocratic Alice Brookfield, who is being forced by her family to marry Churlton. Dick offers to assist her to avoid the unwanted marriage, and they travel to London together, with Alice disguised as a boy. Churlton pursues them, and, after several narrow escapes, Dick is captured by the royal guards and sentenced to be hanged. On the scaffold, Dick is told by his friend, Tom King, who has taken the hangman's place, that the crowd is sympathetic; and Dick makes his escape, riding his horse to York. Dick finds the house where Alice is being held prisoner, kills Churlton, and escapes to France with Alice, whom he marries. Dick gives up his profession and settles down to family life.
- Steve, newly arrived in Trieste, saves Tina from being shot in her own night-club. She engages him as a bodyguard cum detective, giving him a list of names and a map she has inherited. Steve discovers that her father was blackmailing a group of traitors and the map locates money hidden in Somaliland with evidence of their guilt. Having contacted all the names, they leave for Africa taking Nadia in place of her father who is killed. Michael tries to persuade her to join him against the others and escapes when she refuses. Later, in the caves he re-appears and in the ensuing fight falls over a cliff edge after the money. Steve throws the incriminating document after him. Melodrama involving a treasure hunt and an old blackmail system during the war, which is cleared up by a bodyguard.

However, before Dr. Lamb can proceed, the hunchback un-cages another victim, an ape-man, who crushes Dr. Lamb to death.

- Jack Malone, mate of the Langland, is accused of drunkenness by Crosby, a rival suitor of his sweetheart, Patty Thomas. He and the captain, who really was drunk, are both fired. He is finally vindicated by the children of the town, and Patty agrees to wait for him when he goes to sea in a ship his brothers have purchased for him and the captain.

Gerald falls in love with her, and Isabella finds that she truly loves him in return. They share their idyllic love in a small house in the country until Gerald's mother persuades Isabella that Gerald will never find lasting happiness with her. Isabella then arranges with John Strong to make Gerald jealous by allowing Gerald to find her in John's embrace. Gerald discovers them together, suspects the worst, and leaves Isabella; Strong then has a change of heart and tells Gerald of Isabella's noble deception. Gerald returns to her in time to prevent her from poisoning herself and declares his intention to marry her immediately.
- In old California, Don Fernando and Don Diego hope to consolidate their adjoining ranches by betrothing their children, Ramón and Dolores. However, Ramón is in love with Suzanna, the daughter of a peon on his father's ranch, and Dolores is interested in Pancho, a toreador. When Suzanna learns that she and Dolores were switched in infancy, making her Don Diego's actual daughter, she keeps silent. Ramón finally rebels and steals Suzanna from the altar as she is about to marry Pancho. Following the necessary explanations, Ramón marries Suzanna and Dolores marries Pancho.
- Princess Triloff, an emigrée from Czarist Russia, escapes to America where she becomes a patron of the arts. She falls in love with the verses of impoverished poet Owen Carey and becomes his anonymous benefactor. When Owen inherits a fortune from his rich Uncle Krakerfeller, he assumes his uncle's identity and confers his own upon an impoverished friend, Frank Manners. At a resort, Owen meets the princess and falls in love with her, but is chagrined to discover that she is enamored with Manners. The princess finally discovers Owen's real identity and the two fall in love. However, when a later will rescinds Owen's inheritance, he becomes intimidated by the princess's wealth and skulks away to his garret. The princess follows him and they are happily reunited in poverty when she discovers that her fortune has been confiscated in the revolution.
- Chafing under his dying father's prediction that he is just a fighter without a soul who someday will be beaten by his long-lost brother, brutish Charles Hinges heads west with Jacinta, a dance hall girl, and Augustina, a fortune-teller. They tour frontier towns, with Charles taking on all challengers in no-holds-barred wrestling matches. Charles is undefeated until he engages his brother, David, the town reformer. In his humiliation, Charles feels he has finally found his soul. Fearing that Jacinta admires him only for his strength, he sends her to David. Meanwhile, Jacinta has been the object of the unwelcome attentions of China Jones. Jones is killed, and saloon keeper Phil Beason fastens the blame on David, who is about to be lynched when Charles claims the guilt. Jacinta saves both brothers from the rope with the timely arrival of a posse and Augustina's confession to Jones's murder. Charles reveals himself to David and is reunited with Jacinta.
- Danny Terry, a wild-animal expert for a scientific magazine, goes to the Mariposa Islands and pretends to be a white savage to put over a hoax on a rival magazine's expedition, guided by Professor Atwater. In New York, he is placed on exhibition at a "jungle ball" given by Mrs. Atwater to celebrate the betrothal of her daughter to Howard Kipp. Terry's editor tries to expose the hoax, but Terry has fallen in love with Ysabel and refuses to disgrace her further; meanwhile, Ysabel breaks her engagement upon finding her fiancé with another girl. Though she knows Terry is a fake, she goes away with him, and they declare their mutual love. Terry convinces his pursuers that the "savage" has escaped, and as himself he finds happiness with Ysabel.
- The storyline is loosely-based on Buffalo candy-maker August Merckens' opera-singer daughter Baroness Platon Von Wrangel, who married the Russian leader in the fight for restoration of the Russian monarchy.
- Tom, the rambunctious member of the Sawyer clan, takes it upon himself to teach the goody-goody boy of Hannibal, Missouri a lesson and, as Huckleberry Finn, his free-spirited best friend watches, pummels his foe to defeat. At school clever Tom makes mischief a regular practice, but as long as the punishment lands him next to his beloved Becky Thatcher, he remains carefree. After he is unfairly accused of his brother Sid's misdeed, Tom runs away with Huck and Joe Harper. Disguised as pirates, the trio builds a raft and sails down the Mississippi to a deserted island. Back at home, Tom's frantic Aunt Polly calls for a search, and cannons are fired into the river. When the search yields nothing, the boys are declared dead and a funeral is planned. At first tempted to reveal himself, Tom decides later to partake in his own memorial service, and as the townspeople mourn, he and his friends appear in the back of the church. Overcome with relief, Becky and Aunt Polly embrace Tom, forgetting to scold him for his mischief.
- Scruff Mackenzie, arriving at his quarters in the Yukon, announces his intentions of seeking a wife. Later, he meets Father Roubeau and his Indian ward, Chook-Ra, whom Scruff comes to love, but the priest forbids their marriage until the arrival of her father, Chief Tinner. When Scruff goes to a nearby town to buy gifts for Chook-Ra, he becomes infatuated with a dance hall girl. Chook-Ra follows and, determined to win him, takes some dancing lessons and surprises him at the local ball. Chief Tinner arrives, however, and forces Chook-Ra to return to her own people. Scruff follows to the Indian camp and after much bargaining wins the girl, but the minor chiefs decree that he must first fight The Bear, who also is her suitor. The latter is killed in the ensuing conflict, and the couple depart for civilization.
- Goody Rickby conspires with Satan to avenge herself when Gillead Wingate refuses to acknowledge their illegitimate child. Years pass, and Wingate becomes a powerful figure in his Salem, Massachusetts, community. Satan appears, ready to effect Goody's revenge. He makes a scarecrow come to life and plans to marry him to Rachel, Wingate's ward, thereby causing her and Wingate to be hanged for having been associated with witchcraft. Their plan is partially foiled when the scarecrow falls in love, acquires a soul, and sacrifices himself to save Rachel.
- Laura Bedford marries poor taxi driver Jim Maberne, and her chum Claribel marries wealthy Richard Smith-Blanton. When the two women accidentally meet sometime later, Laura eagerly accepts Claribel's invitation to an artists' ball. Because of her poverty, Laura is obliged to obtain a ball gown on approval. At the ball she repulses the advances of Smith-Blanton. When her children ruin the dress the next day, Laura takes her husband's savings to pay for it. Jim discovers the loss and orders Laura out. When, later, he comes upon her struggling against Smith-Blanton, Claribel tells him the whole story. Jim gives Smith-Blanton a beating and takes his wife home.
