Marvel’s favorite frenemies are back in the second trailer for the hotly anticipated “Deadpool and Wolverine” — the third installment in the “Deadpool” series of films and the first set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This time, Deadpool and Wolverine fight like bloody hell to the tune of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.”
“I’m about to lose everything that I’ve ever cared about,” Deadpool tells Wolverine in the trailer, to which Wolverine responds, “Not my fucking problem.”
“Is that what you said when your world went to shit?” Deadpool retorts, provoking Wolverine to strike his crotch with those claws before Deadpool shoots him several times in the torso.
Cut to the two heroes chumming it up over lunch: “Wanna talk about what’s haunting you, or should we wait for a third act flashback?”

Claymation legends Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham will offer stop-motion fans a sneak peek at their upcoming Wallace & Gromit film at this year’s Annecy animation festival.
The still-untitled feature will see inveterate, cheese-loving inventor Wallace designing a “smart gnome” for the family garden who begins to develop a mind of its own. As events spiral out of control, it is up to faithful dog Gromit to put things right. Park and Crossingham co-directed the film, based on a story by Park and a screenplay from Shaun the Sheep and Gnomeo & Juliet writer Mark Burton.
The film, which will premiere on Netflix worldwide outside the U.K., where it will have a first-release window on the BBC, is the second feature from Aardman Animations based on the beloved characters, following the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) and the series of award-winning shorts, including Oscar-winners The Wrong...

Ryan Gosling is reflecting on the reason he believes the 2016 action-comedy The Nice Guys didn’t score a sequel.
The Barbie actor told ComicBook.com, in an interview published online Tuesday, that there likely won’t be a follow-up because the original movie was overwhelmed by The Angry Birds Movie at the box office during its debut weekend.
“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds,” Gosling explained. “So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.” The Angry Birds Movie 2 premiered in 2019.
And The Fall Guy star was right, as the Shane Black-directed film had a tough battle during its opening weekend. It was not only up against Angry Birds but also Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Additionally, Captain America: Civil War was in its third weekend in theaters, so Marvel fans also played a factor.

Any photographer who shoots what’s happening in the gleaming, raw, people-packed carnival of New York City — the stores and walls and towers and alleyways, the celebrities, the endless cross-section of humanity — already has an artistic leg up. But the other leg is what he or she does with it. Weegee shot the violent night world of sin and crime. Diane Arbus captured the hidden freak show and showed us its humanity. Alfred Eisenstaedt and William Klein caught the hurly-burly of the everyday. But as you watch “Uncropped,” an addictive look at the life and work of the magazine and newspaper photographer James Hamilton, you may think: He’s the greatest New York photographer of them all.
Hamilton’s black-and-white images — in the documentary, we see hundreds of them — have a burnished tactility, and a psychology so effortless that every one of them tells a story. The photographs are gallery beautiful,...

Employers have been banned from adopting or enforcing clauses restricting workers’ ability to move to competitors, marking a pivotal change to the employment landscape that could improve working conditions in Hollywood.
The Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday voted 3-to-2 to ban noncompetes, which typically prevent workers from taking a new job from a rival or starting a new business in the same field for a certain amount of time after they leave a company. On top of possibly raising pay for workers across the board by allowing them to freely solicit offers from competitors, the move could also complicate hiring in an industry rife with firms concerned about protecting confidential information and trade secrets.
“The new FTC rule shines a klieg light on how best to retain quality employees in the industry — noncompetes are on their way out, so companies need a better solution,” says Anthony Oncidi, co-head of Proskauer’s labor and employment department.

DreamWorks Animation’s September event movie The Wild Robot is tweaking its release pans. The family film will now open in theaters on Sept. 27, 2024, instead of a week earlier on Sept. 20.
The move gives Wild Robot some distance from Paramount’s animated Transformers One, which moved to the Sept. 20 date earlier this week.
The DreamWorks Animation film, from director Chris Sanders and starring the voice of Lupita Nyong’o, follows the journey of a robot named Rozzum unit 7134 — “Roz” for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings. She gradually, however, forms friendships with the animals on the island and cares for an orphaned baby goose.
The Wild Robot is based on Peter Brown’s book of the same name, an illustrated middle-grade novel first published in 2016 that became a literary phenomenon and rocketed to No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list.

In a Men’s Health cover story with The Fall Guy director David Leitch, the Barbie actor and Bullet Train filmmaker were asked if they have a motto they live by or a north star that guides their decisions.
Gosling explained that he doesn’t really have a motto, but will find himself thinking about his deathbed when faced with a decision, saying that considering what will matter then is what helps him choose the best thing for him.
“It puts things into perspective,” the three-time Oscar nominee told the publication. “It always comes back to family first. I don’t think I’ll regret anything professionally, but I do think when it comes to Eva and the girls, they come first.”

Channing Tatum takes on the role of a tech billionaire who lures people to his private island in the trailer for Blink Twice, Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut.
The lengthy look at the film begins with Tatum’s Slater King announcing amusingly that everyone’s dead and then backtracking to start at the beginning. In the flashback, he introduces his posse of friends to Naomi Ackie’s Frida before inviting her and her friend, Jess, portrayed by Alia Shawkat, to his private island.
“Did we just jet off to a billionaire’s island with a bunch of strangers?” Jess asks Frida, who replies, “No, he’s not a stranger. He’s Slater King.”
Over the course of the trailer, the ladies relish in the luxuries of Slater King’s life, like champagne and amazing food, while Jess jokes that there will be human sacrifice. As more time goes by, the...

Several crew members were injured during filming of an action sequence on the set of “The Pickup” on Saturday.

Eddie Murphy stars in the film, along with Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson. None of the three were on set at the time of the accident, according to the AP.

Baby Reindeer opens with a disclosure typical amid today’s boom in crime content: “This is a true story.”
It’s a fitting declaration as the new Netflix limited series, which shot to No. 1 on the streamer’s TV rankings over the weekend to become the latest viral hit, is based on the life and experiences of its creator, writer, executive producer and star, Richard Gadd. The multihyphenate adapted it from his award-winning Edinburgh Festival Fringe one-man play.
Baby Reindeer casts Gadd as Donny Dunn, a struggling comedian who encounters a lonely woman one day while at his bartending gig. The chance meeting, during which he offers her a complimentary cup of tea when she turns up in tears, spirals over many months as it’s revealed that Martha, who is played by Jessica Gunning, is a dangerous serial stalker.

The film and TV rights for Clue have landed at Sony, with Hasbro Entertainment closing a deal with TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television to develop adaptations of the classic murder mystery board game.
Clue, the game, has players figure out who is responsible for a murder in a cast of characters that includes Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. White and Miss Scarlet. The location of the murder (dining room, kitchen, ballroom, etc.) and weapon (velvet rope, lamp, knife, etc.) also must be deciphered.
The board game was previously adapted into a 1985 comedy that starred Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn and Christopher Lloyd, among others. While the film performed poorly at the box office and debuted to lukewarm reviews, Clue, which was written and directed by Jonathan Lynn, has since reached cult status. Over the years, other versions were in the works, with Ryan Reynolds at one point attached to star...

“I trust myself as a writer, I trust my process,” Quentin Tarantino declared onstage at the Adobe Max creative conference in 2016. “I never try to take anything out too soon. If I do, I realize it, and I put it back.” The acclaimed filmmaker added: “Not every film needs to be made. Not every movie should be made.”
And one of those movies that will not be made — as the world learned April 17 — is The Movie Critic, which was billed as Tarantino’s 10th and final film. The project initially focused on a writer working for a fictional porn magazine in the late 1970s and then it quietly evolved, amid a flurry of rewrites, into something resembling a spinoff of his ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (with some potential meta twists, as we’ll explain later).

In the run-up to its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, Francis Ford Coppola’s 135-minute epic “Megalopolis” is on track to sell to a French distributor, Le Pacte.
The indie company, presided over by veteran French distributor Jean Labadie, is currently negotiating a deal. It seems like an odd match for such a pricey movie considering Le Pacte’s fairly modest size. Although the company has had recent hits, including Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Maiwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry,” it may not be able to splurge on P&a. Coppola’s lawyer Barry Hirsch, who also served as a producer, has been courting studios and streamers to secure a splashy deal with a P&a commitment amounting to more than half of the film’s $120 budget, according to industry insiders. The pending deal with Le Pacte suggests that the film, which Coppola self-financed, might...

Sylvester Stallone revealed on the TMZ special “Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons” (via The Daily Mail) that a near career-ending injury in the lead up to “Rocky II” threatened to end the boxing franchise before its first sequel got off the ground. Stallone was training with bodybuilder Franco Columbu about a month and a half before the “Rocky 2” shoot when he ripped his pec muscle right off the bone.
“So, I go down, and it’s maybe only 200 [lbs]. I’m just warming up, and I hear a Pow!’ Stallone remembered. “I fall on the floor. Zendaya is getting candid about the conversations surrounding her kissing scenes in films and television series.
The Emmy-winning actress chatted with Jake Hamilton, the creator behind YouTube account Jake’s Takes, while promoting Challengers. She sat down with her co-stars, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, for a brief conversation ahead of the release of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film.
At one point in the interview, Hamilton pointed out to Zendaya that when she does a kissing scene, it seems to get an “abnormal” amount of attention, and she agreed, noting, “I know, it’s very odd.” He went on to ask her if she thinks people have forgotten that’s part of an actor’s job, or if they’re simply using it as a way to get her to talk about kissing.

Post Malone, Vault Comics and Michael Bay and Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes have partnered to create an all-new IP universe based on an original story by the recording artist.
Blending elements of road thrillers like “Mad Max: Fury Road” and demonic horror like “Evil Dead,” Malone’s story is set in medieval Europe, where the only thing standing in the way of the horde of demons infesting the continent is a mysterious armored 18-wheeler seemingly sent back from the heavens.
“I’m so pumped to share this badass story with the world, and I couldn’t ask for better partners than Michael Bay and Vault to help bring this story to life,” says Malone.
Working closely with Malone, Vault will launch the story first as a graphic novel, set for publication in 2025. Meanwhile, Post Malone, Platinum Dunes and Vault will concurrently develop a feature film adaptation.

Super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently told People magazine that Bruce Willis was so generous on the set of their 1998 blockbuster “Armageddon” that he gave money away to the crew to make sure people had some “nice extra cash at the end of the week.” Willis headlined the Michael Bay-directed film opposite Billy Bob Thornton, Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck.
“Bruce is such a good guy,” Bruckheimer said. “He was so generous to the crew. They’d have [cash giveaway] drawings, and he’d throw a lot of money in the hat, and the crew members would always take away some nice extra cash at the end of the week, whoever won.”
Bruckheimer called Willis a “giving guy” and a “good friend.” Apparently the “Armageddon” crew had a weekly cash pot going at the end of each week of production. Willis made sure to increase the jackpot with his own money to make the reward that much greater.

When millions of Americans came together to marvel at the stunning solar eclipse, we saw a rare moment of unity amid the darkness of a country torn apart by polarization. Bookending the same week? The release of action-thriller “Civil War,” now the number one film in America and A24 Films’ most successful release yet. Set against the backdrop of an imagined second American Civil War, the film follows photojournalists led by Lee Smith (Kirsten Dunst), as they capture the horrors of a failed country.
After previewing the film, I fixated on the plot’s open space left by writer and director Alex Garland. For audiences wondering what leads us to this point of no return, Garland deliberately shoots back with blanks, inviting us to fill in the rest.
I believe that it matters how we fill those gaps. Films of this magnitude, especially on a radioactive topic, set a narrative in our culture.

Peter Morgan’s new play Patriots, now on Broadway, opens with an awareness of its audience. “In the West you have no idea,” Boris Berezovksy (an excellent Michael Stuhlbarg) says through a voiceover. “You think of Russia as a cold, bleak place, full of hardship and cruelty.” The stage is bare, and the oligarch, who played an instrumental role in Vladimir Putin’s rise to power, speaks to us from a liminal space. He goes on to describe the beauty of his country, Russian music, the sounds of children laughing in the streets and the taste of ice cream on a cold day.
When the stage comes into view (set design by Miriam Buether, lighting design by Jack Knowles), it’s 1955. Berezovsky is a schoolboy gifted in mathematics. A teacher urges his parents — congenial and full of quips — to push their son. “Anyone can be a doctor, Mrs. Berezovsky,” says...

With cable TV service in a state of cord-cutting freefall, two of the biggest players in the space are leaning into a new strategy to try and stop the bleeding.
Comcast and Charter Communications are the two biggest pay TV companies in the U.S., and the two largest broadband providers. But with TV subscribers falling quarter by quarter and year by year, in the past week both have launched products to try and placate consumers grappling with the sticker shock of total cable packages, replete with sports channels and niche offerings.
Charter on Tuesday launched what it is calling Spectrum TV Stream, which will provide 90 streaming channels for $40 per month. A&e, AMC, CNN, Discovery, Disney Channel, Fox News, FX, Hallmark and HGTV are among the offerings. The streaming offering will be available to Spectrum internet customers.
The company also rolled out Spectrum Stream Latino, which will cost $25 per month and feature 45 Spanish-language channels.

Twenty years after its release, the Jennifer Garner-led comedy 13 Going on 30 is still thriving.
Sony released Gary Winick’s comedy in theaters April 23, 2004, and the film earned $96 million ($159 million today) at the global office. Also featuring Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer and Andy Serkis, the movie centered on teenage Jenna Rink (played by Christa B. Allen, now known as Christa Belle), who gets embarrassed at a party and makes a wish that transforms her into her 30-year-old self (Garner).
Co-writers Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, in addition to Belle, separately share with The Hollywood Reporter about other actresses being considered for Garner’s part, Ruffalo feeling hesitant to do the “Thriller” dance, memories of Winick (who died of cancer in 2011 at age 49), the status of a stage musical, and persistent chatter among the film’s team regarding a potential onscreen reboot.

Alec Baldwin seemingly slapped someone’s phone out of their hand after they kept trying to get him to say “Free Palestine.”
A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night sees a person go up to Baldwin at a New York City coffee shop.
The nearly one-minute video, posted on an account with the name “Crackhead Barney & Friends,” begins with the person asking him to say “Free Palestine.” The person then goes on to address Baldwin’s ongoing involuntary manslaughter case, following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Rust set.
“Why did you kill that lady? You killed that lady, got no jail time,” the user continues. “No jail time Alec. You’re putting innocent people in jail, Alec Baldwin. Free Palestine Alec. Just one time, and I’ll leave you alone. I’ll leave you alone. I swear.”

Two years ago, it was neon yellow roller blades and coordinating skating costumes for Barbie and Ken that showed up on Venice Beach in Los Angeles, drumming up excitement for what became a blockbuster hit. This year, it’s apes on horseback.
20th Century Film sent horse handlers dressed as monkeys to the iconic California coast in an out-of-the-box marketing effort for their upcoming movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
On Monday, the studio’s president, Steve Asbell, reshared a video of the event on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “We out here opening up an entirely new front on the CGI vs. practical effects twitter debate!”

Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show has given the show a big lift on the nights that he hosts — and even on the nights he doesn’t.
Stewart’s surprise return to Comedy Central’s late- night flagship — he’ll anchor the show on Monday nights through the presidential election — led to an immediate ratings spike for the show, as his first show back on Feb. 12 hit a multiyear high in viewers. The first few episodes after Stewart’s return, hosted by Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper, also came in way ahead of the show’s average viewership for 2023.
Seven weeks into the Stewart-and-correspondents hosting arrangement, that pattern has mostly held up. Ratings have cooled some in April, but both Stewart’s Monday shows and the news team-led installments later in the week have consistently stayed well above both the show’s guest host era of 2023 and the...
