Bryan Singer Isn’t Not Involved With Superman Reboot

5 December 2008 8:29 AM, PST

Now that Bryan Singer is (finally) finished with his WWII thriller Valkyrie and off promoting said film, the question of his involvement on Superman: The Man of Steel was bound to be asked.

Speaking to Ugo Movie Blog, Singer was rather cryptic towards the prospects of his participation.

That is to say although he is not “officially involved in the talks,” Singer is “not divorced” from it either - aka Bryan won’t be directly involved but will be paid regardless thanks to the expensive “Pay or Play” deal he inked with the studio back in October ‘06.

So, don’t be surprised if Bryan is given a “Producer” title despite his non-involvement (i.e. like Jon Peters was on Superman Returns!)

By all accounts, the next Superman film is definitely moving forward - what with the news of Brandon Routh possibly returning in the red-and-blue suit even though it’s

Trailer For The Trailer For ‘Terminator: Salvation’

4 December 2008 9:34 PM, PST

Weird title, I know – but it’s true.

Entertainment Tonight presented a sneak peak for the newest trailer for Terminator Salvation that will debut on their show next Tuesday and will be in theaters alongside The Day the Earth Stood Still. That means we now have two good reasons to see that film in theaters: 1) This trailer 2) The first official trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Terminator Salvation is directed by McG and stars Christian Bale, Anton Yelchin, Sam Worthington, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common, Moon Bloodgood and Helena Bonham Carter.

The quick scenes we see here show some stuff we’ve seen before but the ending is the most notable and you’ll see why.

Here’s the footage:

[See post to watch Flash video]

That’s one big out-of-place robot. It’s like RoboCop meets modern live action transformers. I can’t say I remember that one from the Skynet designs, heh. The only reason there

DiCaprio & Winslet Reunite In Revolutionary Road

4 December 2008 9:28 PM, PST

If you get most of your movie news from Screen Rant, you probably haven’t heard of Revolutionary Road.

This film will be released on December 26th and is sure to be nominated for a bunch of Oscars for 2008. It reunites Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as a couple again, giving us flashbacks to Titanic. Ah, but believe it or not that movie is already 11 years old and both of these actors have matured a Lot since the last James Cameron “event” movie.

I haven’t seen Winslet in anything since the upside-down boat romanto-epic but I have seen DiCaprio in a few films since then. Believe me, he is Not the young, annoying kid you remember from that movie. He’s gone on to appear in a series of heavy dramatic roles.

In The Departed he still had some of that youngish vibe, but he graduated to full man

Watchmen Gets Shorter

4 December 2008 8:16 PM, PST

It’s about time for another Watchmen update! Speaking of time, Zack and Deborah Snyder told Sci Fi Wire that the film’s final length is getting shorter.

Though WB has not approved the new length, producer Deborah Snyder said “we’re getting really close” during a telephone interview. “We’re at two hours and 35 minutes.” Zack added “The movie’s pretty long… compared to ‘300,’ which was an hour and 58 minutes. The director’s cut [of Watchmen] is about three hours and 10 minutes long. It has even more than the theatrical version, as far as the detail that gets even closer to the graphic novel.”

2 hours and 35 minutes! That’s it?

If Zack is trying to be faithful to the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon graphic novel, as a movie this complex story would be around 3.5 hours long, if not four.

Watchmen is a graphic novel that uses a comic within a comic,

Cool New Pics From ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’

3 December 2008 8:42 PM, PST

This weekend I wrote about the first official picture of Gambit from X-Men Origins: Wolverine and now we have several new photos from tha film that have appeared online for our viewing pleasure. There are five in total and are all live shots from scenes in the film.

If you got a chance to see the low-quality leaked footage of the teaser trailer featured at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con, these may look familiar to you as they are all directly taken from scenes shown during that trailer.

The images are not of the highest quality, but what they depict is pretty awesome.

Take a look and see what you think:

How To Save The Next ‘Indiana Jones’ Movie

3 December 2008 6:52 PM, PST

The holiday season is upon us once again. And in the time-honored tradition of making a wishlist of what we hope to receive, I thought I would present something from my personal list for 2009:

A fifth Indiana Jones movie.

Now don’t get me wrong, I certainly don’t expect to receive one in 2009. What I am hoping for is the official announcement that one is in progress; that the contracts have been signed, and pre-production is well under way.

I know that some of my colleagues here at Screen Rant have weighed in on their opinion regarding a fifth Indy movie. Harrison Ford, as quoted by the Los Angeles Times, stated that George Lucas was working on an idea that was “crazy but great.”

As unhappy as many people were with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I was happy they managed to get the band back together again.

Open Discussion - December 03, 2008

2 December 2008 10:01 PM, PST

It’s Wednesday so it’s time for our weekly open discussion post. Talk about whatever you like as long as it’s related to movies, TV or Screen Rant itself.

As is becoming common, I have a side note: If you use Yahoo for email, you’re probably not receiving comment updates from us. It seems that Yahoo has blacklisted my server IP because it thinks I’m a spammer. I’m working on resolving the problem.

Caprica Is A Go On The Sci-Fi Channel

2 December 2008 9:26 PM, PST

(Paula Malcomson as Amanda Graystone and Eric Stoltz as Daniel Graystone)

Over the weekend, I had been pointed to a snippet on TV Guide.com that the Battlestar Galactica (Aka BSG) prequel, Caprica, was being delayed to air after the end of season 4.5, 5 or whatever the heck you want to call it. It also intimated that there was a possibility that it would air after BSG, -> if at all. <-

I tend to believe TV Guide… They’ve steered me in the right direction many times but I couldn’t find any collaboration for this information Anywhere. So I held my tongue for a bit.

I’m a little disappointed, but I’m glad I held still on the mis-news because the Sci-Fi Channel has indeed ordered 20 hours of Caprica and will star Eric Stoltz as Daniel Graystone, Esai Morales as Joseph Adama, Paula Malcomson as Amanda Graystone and

First Images Of Depp & Bale In ‘Public Enemies’

2 December 2008 7:48 PM, PST

Empire Magazine has been the big provider of much of our news during our slow last week. In addition to a new picture of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine from the cover of an upcoming issue and the very first picture of Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, the first images of Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in costume were released for their upcoming film, Public Enemies.

Public Enemies is a film about the infamous bank robber John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and his exploits during the depression. The film will center around the FBI, led by J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) attempting to put a stop to the notorious gansters: John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Pretty Boy Floyd.

While Dillinger was pulling off heists against the looked-down-upon banks (for leading the country into the depression), the FBI tried to take advantage of the situation and use the case to increase its power

Update On Superman Appearance In ‘Green Lantern’

2 December 2008 5:07 PM, PST

So we here at Screen Rant are pretty good at thinking two steps ahead of the suits in Hollywood. That is to say, we can usually predict their next move before even they know what it is.

Screen Rant writer Jamie Williams has been the all-seeing, all-knowing, Oracle of everything Superman related. For proof of his precognitive prowess, just take a look at his early prediction that Superman Returns star Brandon Routh will most likely re-don the red and blue suit for the next supes film (which is still in the pipeline somewhere).

When the rumor mill started churning about a scene in the upcoming Green Lantern movie in which mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent pops up for a look at the new superhero on the block, the blogosphere went wild with speculation about which of the current Supermen (Smallville’s Tom Welling or Superman ReturnsBrandon Routh) would play Kent in the Green Lantern cameo.

MakeFive Votes Screen Rant Their Top Entertainment Blog

2 December 2008 3:17 PM, PST

Who knows how long it will last - but at the time I write this MakeFive.com has voted Screen Rant as their top Movies, Television and Entertainment Blog. Of course many of my favorites aren’t even on the list, so that could explain why we’re doing so well.

MakeFive is a Web 2.0 website where their community votes for “top” lists in a variety of categories. People vote for their favorites in topics ranging from art and comedy all the way to sports and technology.

It looks like a pretty cool site after taking a bit of time to poke around it. If you’re a “top 5″ list voter kind of person you could spend quite a bit of time there going from category to category voting up your favorites. If you feel like helping out, head over there, create an account and vote for Screen Rant if you think we’re worthy!

Beverly Hills Cop Out

2 December 2008 12:38 PM, PST

We all know that Brett Ratner is attached to direct Beverly Hills Cop 4, and that Eddie Murphy will be reprising his trademark role of Axel Foley.

For a few years there were rumors that the film would show the adventures of Foley in London, but I’m guessing that the filmmakers realized that the character is from Detroit and that he solves crimes in Beverly Hills, so he would just be London Cop. And that is a whole other franchise.

Well, now Latino Review have seen a script  by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas for the new film and according to them -  it’s not too good.

[Some Plot Spoilers Follow]

If this script is used, then film will begin with Foley’s friend Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) throwing himself off a building. However, Axel knows that this is something that Billy just would not do. Returning to Beverly Hills for the first time in years,

Kevin McKidd Still In The Running For Thor

2 December 2008 12:29 PM, PST

Way back in August 2007 there was speculation that Kevin McKidd was in the running to play the lead in Marvel’s upcoming Norse-god superhero movie Thor. Since then the rumor kind of faded away but today we have an update for you.

At last night’s after party for the premier of Punisher: War Zone, IGN caught up with Kevin McKidd and asked him if he’s still in the running to play Thor.

McKidd confirmed he may still appear as the thunder god, but there’s been “a lot of back and forth” surrounding the project.

Though nothing is confirmed for him, he acknowledged that having Kenneth Branagh directing the movie has made him even more excited about the film.  He also stressed he’s up for the lead role of Thor, and not a supporting role.

McKidd’s credits include a number of films including Kingdom of Heaven; as of late,

Can The Person Who Wants ‘Speed 3′ Please Stand Up!

2 December 2008 11:26 AM, PST

Movie fans have a special love/hate relationship with sequels. We love it when sequels to our favorite movies go into production - but we are the first to point the finger when the studio gets it wrong.

Now it looks like 20th Century Fox wants to pillage even more of their back-catalog and it appears that Speed may have zoomed into pole position on the studio’s list. Not only that - but Jack Traven, the character played by Keanu Reeves in the original is apparently in the scriptment that is making the rounds over at Fox.

So… will we really see another Speed film?

Or the more important question: “Does anybody really want to watch Speed 3?”

In 1994 two young actors named Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock starred in a film directed by a former cinematographer named Jan De Bont. That film was Speed and the film was the
