New Friday the 13th Trailer is Live!
4 December 2008 4:09 PM, PST
First a new poster and now a new trailer! That's what I call progress! Ready to see what this latest trip to Crystal Lake seems to have in store for us Jason loving faithful? You know you are!
Once again it's Yahoo Movies that scored the first look, so click the link and get to watching as the body count continues! I have to say I'm the first one to give Platinum Dunes crap about their "gritty" re-imaginings, but this one? It looks good. Really friggin' good.
Official Synopsis: From Platinum Dunes and director Marcus Nispel ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre") comes a re-imagining of the classic horror film "Friday the 13th." Searching for his missing sister, Clay heads up to the eerie woods of legendary Crystal Lake, where he stumbles on the creaky remains of rotting old cabins that lie in wait behind moss-covered trees. And that's not the only thing hiding under the brush.

Eisner Not a Lock for Creature Remake?
4 December 2008 2:57 PM, PST
Some interesting news broke today regarding Universal's pending remake of the Fifties classic The Creature from the Black Lagoon. For months now we've been hearing (and dreading) the choice of Breck Eisner as director for the film, but in a recent interview it seems like we all may be in luck!
Producer/screenwriter Gary Ross told Collider.com that Eisner's name hasn't been associated with the movie for quite some time now, and that it has not even been greenlit yet.
Let's hear from the man himself ...
"I’m producing it. We’re actually moving forward," Ross tells Collider. "It’s certainly going to be based on the original; my dad’s favorite was The Creature Walks Among Us and that was the last one which my dad also wrote. It’s not going to be campy [and] it’s not a reference to what the original was. It’s not reverential that way.

Pulse 3 DVD Artwork & Stills
4 December 2008 12:08 PM, PST
It's been a while since we heard much about Pulse 3, the Joel Soisson-helmed second sequel to the American remake nobody asked for. But since the DVD drops in just a few weeks -- December 23rd to be exact -- Genius Products and The Weinstein Company have released the box art for the disc along with a couple of choice stills.
According to the press release, Pulse 3 takes place seven years after the phantom invasion, and the survivors on Earth have settled into a primitive lifestyle completely void of technology. That is, until sixteen-year-old Justine is lured into the city where her curiosity gets the best of her as she unwillingly unleashes the deadliest digital invasion yet.
The bonus features to be included on the DVD are as follows:
Behind-the-scenes featurette Commentary by writer/director Joel Soisson, producer Mike Leahy, actress Brittany Finamore, and editor Kirk Morri Not

Poster for While She Was Out
4 December 2008 11:42 AM, PST
Here’s one we keep skipping over coverage on for reasons I’m not entirely sure of (my vote is laziness). It’s definitely a good contender for our genre and if nothing else stars the babe-a-licious Kim Basinger, who just keeps getting more attractive the older she gets.
Nothing says “hot” like a woman in peril, and that’s what While She Was Out takes advantage of to the fullest. Basinger stars as Della, a suburban housewife whose series of bad choices put her up against some urban psychopaths lead by Lukas Haas.
Anchor Bay is putting out While She Was Out in New York and La on December 12th, and to celebrate they just sent over the final poster for the film. Depending on how the coastal screenings go, we may be seeing an expanded theatrical run, but if not expect a DVD announcement after the New Year.

Finally! Howard the Duck Comes to DVD!
4 December 2008 11:20 AM, PST
On the one hand, Howard the Duck is not really horror related. On the other hand, the movie does have the cigar-chomping duck man waging war with a body-snatching alien called the Dark Overlord that eventually manifests itself in the form of a humongous insectoid bent on world domination. Ah, who cares one way or another? Howard the Duck is finally coming to DVD.
Universal has confirmed a special edition DVD release of the notorious yet strangely beloved, George Lucas produced, 1986 box office bomb Howard the Duck for March 10, 2009. Digitally remastered and featuring new 5.1 surround sound, no DVD artwork just yet but the extras have been confirmed. This disc is going to be fairly loaded for a DVD retailed for around $14.99.

Prepare for a Terror Overload
4 December 2008 11:02 AM, PST
Wow, two stories about movies with Joe Knetter in them in two days. If I’m not mistaken that’s one of the Biblical signs of the apocalypse. I could be wrong, though; it’s been a while since I’ve read my Bible.
Today we give you Terror Overload, another anthology Knetter is involved in (as a writer and a star) with stories revolving around the evil lives of truckers. The wraparound has a creepy truck driver telling a sexy stranded hitchhiker some scary stories like “Dinner Date”, “Lot Lizard” and “Mongo Chupa”, of which Knetter wrote the last two.
So what can we expect from Terror Overload, aside from beefy hunks of Knetter goodness? ”[An] ultra-low-budget horror flick loaded with over the top blood, boobs, creatures, sleaze and a bunch of other crazy shit you will have to see to believe” according to the press release we received.

Satanic Panic Mask Scores Distro!
4 December 2008 9:52 AM, PST
Just got a heads up from the guys behind the upcoming indie film Satanic Panic, Marc Selz Productions, that a mask design used in the movie was just picked up by Chicago-based Zagone Studios for reproduction! The mask, which you can see in all its badass glory below, will be part of Zagone’s 2009 catalog and will be in select Halloween outlets next year.
The mask was sculpted by J. Anthony Kosar, a young kid who's got a helluva lot of promise if his website’s any indication. Satanic Panic follows a group of friends who run afoul of a demented Satanic cult and find themselves prime candidates for sacrifice.
Distribution is being sought as we speak, so expect to hear more soon!

Take a Ride on Haunted Airplane
4 December 2008 1:24 AM, PST
Do you dare gaze upon the trailer for a motion picture bold enough to use the title Haunted Airplane? Yes ... Haunted Airplane. Because I guess a more gimmicky title like Poltergeists on a Plane sounds a little too passe now.
Haunted Airplane is the newest from Dustin Rikert, the writer/director of the martial arts Western Ghost Rock and last year's atrocious Alien Invasion Arizona (review). The film has something to do with a mysterious box that gets opened on a commercial airliner in mid-flight unleashing assorted spectres that bring about all manner of supernatural death and chaos.
The Nsfw trailer for Haunted Airplane has crash landed onto YouTube and ... You just have to see it with your own eyes. It really just has to be seen for oneself. I suspect most everyone that leaves a comment will rip it to shreds. Heck, I'm almost tempted to myself, but I

Zone Film Gets Roby's Piecemeal
4 December 2008 1:05 AM, PST
I’ve not heard of anyone involved with this project, but sometimes those are the best kinds of projects to focus on for a bit. THR got word this morning that Zone Film is developing a new movie called Piecemeal, working from a script by Jeff Welch.
The film will be directed by Daniel Roby, who took home accolades from the Toronto International Film Festival a few years back for his Canadian vampire film White Skin, which was released here by Lionsgate as Cannibal back in 2006. The story of Piecemeal follows a teenager struggling to control his rage while living the life of a brutally abused young man in a series of recurring nightmares.
The only principal involved whose name I recognize is Martyrs producer Simon Trottier, which is good enough for me. Piecemeal will be the next film Roby directs after finishing up the 70’s-era saga Funkytown in March.

They Live Remake Official
4 December 2008 12:47 AM, PST
Aw, goddamnit. That was the first thought that passed through my head when I read the headline on THR this morning that John Carpenter’s classic alien conspiracy film, They Live, is going to be remade. Universal and Strike Entertainment are in negotiations with rights holder Les Moughs to acquire the film rights.
The remake will be executive produced by Moughs and John Carpenter, who’s never been shy about selling off his movies for a quick buck in the past. That's why we have to live in a world where a horrible remake of The Fog exists.
Hopefully they will do what remakes should do and take what worked in the original and improve upon it, but when was the last time that happened? Honestly I would say the Dawn of the Dead redux which was, encouragingly, also from Universal and Strike Entertainment...
No writers or directors have been mentioned for the project yet,

Hilary Swank Joins Hammer's The Resident
4 December 2008 12:29 AM, PST
Hammer Films continues to prove that they’re done messing around with direct-to-online films and are ready to start working on serious movies today with the first casting for Antti J. Jokinen’s The Resident: Oscar winner Hilary Swank, according to Variety.
Sure, Swank’s involvement in a horror movie doesn’t guarantee it’ll be good (The Reaping anyone?), but it can’t hurt. In The Resident Swank will play a doctor who moves into a new apartment and begins to suspect she’s not alone. She soon learns that her landlord is a stalker and ... well, hopefully something interesting happens.
The Resident is the feature debut for Finnish director Jokinen, who cut his teeth on music videos for people like Will Smith, Korn and Celine Dion before co-founding Solar Films, Finland’s largest TV & film production outfit. His experience, coupled with what we can only hope is a good script,

Grudge 3 Gets an R, First Stills!
3 December 2008 11:26 PM, PST
You know, rarely do I get excited about sequels. I loved the Ju-on movies, but for whatever reason, even with creator Takashi Shimizu at the helm of the American remakes, they still felt kind of stale. With the upcoming release of Ghost House Pictures' The Grudge 3 from Sony, some interesting surprises have been popping up. The latest one? Gone is the PG-13 rating, and in its place the MPAA has granted this third U.S. entry an R rating, the first in the franchise's history.
The rating was earned "for violence, disturbing images, and some language"; and I can't say I'm surprised given that Splinter director Toby Wilkins is at the helm. This dude can do horror, and he's not shy about the onscreen action getting messy. Strap in, folks; we may finally be getting us a ghost story with some much needed bite!

First Look at Cover Art for Grimly's New Poe Collection
3 December 2008 9:13 PM, PST
We recently got an update from one of the hardest working men in horror, Gris Grimly, as to what he's been up to, and two items definitely stood out.
First is Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Death and Dementia, the long-awaited sequel to Grimly's 2004 Tales of Mystery and Madness. This time around Gris adds his unique illustrations to Poe's classic "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Oblong Box", "The Strange Case of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether", and "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar". According to the artist, this book is the same size, shape, and format as the first volume, only "darker, more demented, and better all around." It won't be out for a while, but why not go ahead and pre-order Tales of Death and Dementia from Evilshop.
Second we have those graverobbing ghouls from the short film "Cannibal Flesh Riot", Stash and Hub, memorialized in

15 Films in 5 Years for Dark Castle
3 December 2008 6:09 PM, PST
Variety is reporting that Germany’s Studio Babelsberg has drawn up a five-year, fifteen-film production agreement with producer Joel Silver. The films will be produced under the banner of Dark Castle and are planned to be distributed by Warner Bros.
Details are few on exactly what films are planned, and there was no word on whether the new movies would be exclusively shot at the company’s studio facilities near Berlin. Carl Woebcken, speaking for Babelsberg, did say that the first of the fifteen new films is expected to begin shooting there in the spring.
It’s interesting to note just how significant fifteen new films means to Dark Castle; fifteen just so happens to be the number of films they have produced or are currently producing to date. This contract then effectively plans to double the amount of films they’ve done over the last decade, all in the next five.
